- Such is the depth of his repertoire that Willie Nelson had no trouble filling up two hours and 15 minutes on this July 1, 1976, broadcast from Dallas radio station KAFM-FM. With a little help from occasional guest vocalists Jody Payne and Bee Spears, as well as fellow outlaw David Allan Coe, and owner of the Longhorn Ballroom, Dewey Groom. He ran through material spanning from the beginning of his career as a songwriter through his 1975 hit album Red Headed Stranger. In addition to the hits Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain and Good Hearted Woman, this includes his own interpretations of songs he wrote that were hits for others, such as Crazy and Funny How Time Slips Away, as well as covers of classics like Jambalaya, Truck Drivin' Man, and Goodnight, Irene. The broadcast is presented here in it's entirety, with digitally remastered sound and background notes. Definetely one of my favorite recordings from the prime years of Willie. Trigger has a mind of his own in a few of these songs... Hope ya'll enjoy :)
fantastic memory of a magical time in Texas music, I remember listening to this live on KAFM and this is a treasure - THANKS FOR POSTING!
May be the best sound recording of the mid-70's. Incredible find!
Willie shredded in this wow.
My dad would take me to Willie’s picnics when I was a kid.
When I got older and got married I was taking my wife to the picnics.
I will always love Willie!
Thanks TexasThree!
I don’t know where you get your material, but please keep it coming!
Bootlegs. They are all recorded from the soundboard. I don’t even know what that is really, but there’s an old guy who gives em to me. He’s got about 100 of these shows spanning between 74-76. It’s a whole lot of work to get them out to the public because of file conversions and time stamps and whatever else. Wont stop till they are all out!
@thetexasthree908 sounds like the same approach as the besf Grateful Dead recordings.
@@williamclark6233 exact same stuff, except the Willie recordings have basically zero following. I am trying to pioneer them so ppl can hear the beauty
@@VintageWillie I love both! Maybe try sharing on the Willie Nelson subreddit to get people to know about it
@@VintageWillie If you want some help on audio I'd help you out. Im a audio engineer and I have a lot of experience and contacts in the dead taper scene. Im in atx and my parents raised me on Willie shows in the 80s. What kind of format are these on? I really love this show def Willie is ripping. I used to go to this venue a lot in the late 80s before it closed. For me it was mostly a punk/rap/funk venue but my dad told me when he went there a lot in the old days, that it was the key place for blues in Dallas because it was in an unincorporated part of town where the city couldn't enforce segregation laws, so it was the rare mixed venue in Dallas at the time.
Hey Yall from Boulder !
