The Kurt Busiek Youngblood comics have a bit of controversy around them. Busiek had submitted plots for some or all of the Year One series, but it never came out at the time. In the early 2000s, when Liefeld tried relaunching Youngblood again, he reworked the Busiek plots into a series called Youngblood Genesis. Busiek asked that he only be credited as plotter and not writer, but Liefeld advertised him as being the writer in Previews. As a result Busiek asked his fans to not buy the comic because he did not actually write it. When issue 1 and 2 eventually surfaced, he was credited as plotter. The last two issues never came out. According to Liefeld they used Spawn as well as characters from WildCATs and Team 7, and I guess he never bothered to rework the plots to remove them.
Millar's Youngblood comic was announced around the same time, and while he apparently wrote all three issues (and he has claimed that he ensured he got paid up front), Liefeld only ever drew issue 1 and has reportedly sold ashcans of issue 2 at cons.

From the art and story telling alone this looks to be the best crafted of the six. Valentino might not be as flashy as the others but he definitely knew how to tell stories through drawings and layout.

This was the first issue of Youngblood I bought. I thought they were all going to be this fun. I was...wrong. That being said, I was there for Chapel vs. Spawn.

they should have done all of these out of continuity, as single full story issues and numbered each one 'X'
