Great video, thank you very much! The one thing I am trying to figure out, is how to add something that looks like a moving white (or any colour) line when switching between your before and after images (as seen in your own example shown at the start of the video)? I used to use an app called Diff to make my before after gifs, and I am so happy that this video taught me how to make my own so I can eliminate the app. . .but I really want a line. Please advise?! :)

When i try to move mask it does not moves..... i have check mask is select, auto select is off, n many other things. still cant figure it out. please help. Also, Thank u for all these amazing tutorials!!!!

Fantastic tutorial. Though I lowkey felt like I was learning Photoshop tricks from Gilbert Gottfried's long lost brother. That was kind of a bonus, honestly.
Brilliant. I’ve been changing the opacity of the top frame, going down from 100% to 0% and back again. I then save each frame at 5% intervals. Think your method may be quicker and produce better results.

I love your tutorials. They are always so concise. However, I cannot get the mask to wipe. I can see the animation when I drag it from the left to the right. But nothing happens when I drag the playhead to the beginning and hit the play button. I have watched it several times and I still get the same results. I'm using PS 2022 if that makes a difference. Thank you.

That was great but how do you make it so you can manually drag the before and after bar.

If you're having problems with the mask not doing anything when you slide it, as I did in Photoshop 2024, do this. Select your whole image and then go to image contract and contract by 1 pixel. Now the sliding will work and it's not visible that there's one pixel missing from the mask.

There is no keyline on the tutorial example but there is on your first example.
I managed this by adding an extra layer and transforming it to match.
Another informative video, Jesus! It appears to make a difference whether you create a negative mask on the before layer (alt-click mask icon) versus create a positive mask (white) and then fill it with black. In the former case, the move tool doesn't move the mask.
Yes, Frank! If you create a black mask it will be infinitely black! But if you fill with black, then only the canvas will be black and the rest white. So you can move it around when you unlink it.

Click on the mask link icon to remove so they can move independently
no, the solution was to select the canvas then create a layer mask so it will cover only the canvas, but if you did not select the canvas before, PS will make unlimited black mask, which will not gonna move to end

Hi, I tried the method but after I dragged the layer mask, the keyframe does not automatically created. Can you tell me any possible mistakes I might have made? I followed your steps through and through though.
Did you make sure to click on the stopwatch icon to record the keyframe? Like shown at 5:42
I have the same issue... the keyframe is not created and the animation of the mask doesn't happen. Even when I create the keyframe manualy, the position of the mask stays the same as the other keyframe... in fact, it ignores all the keyframes and keeps the position of the mask all timeline long... I use PS 2019 and PS 2020 for Mac. Any guess about what can be wrong?
BIG PROBLEM HERE! Whenever I convert the image into a gif it loses tons of quality but the animation works. When I convert the image to PNG-24 it looks great but the animation does not work! What is happening?
GIF are low quality by nature. They can only support 256 colors and can be animated, while PNG (24 bits) supports over 16 million colors but no animation.
At the point where your dragging the layer accross your screen with the move tool, this didn't work for me and thus the rest of the video was unusable.
