Thank you so much, Goose! Oh yea that little bit was something i just remember seeing top players doing and was like “wait… that’s not all too difficult!”
Thank you for the guide, my good man. I've tried a few half-hearted attempts at speedrunning and was relatively happy with my 1h25m run, but I figured I could do better if I put in the effort. After actually trying - with a good number of ILs and 4 runs from scratch - I just now finished my first sub-hour with a nail-biting 59:34.097 (116 deaths, mostly trying some things and taking it safely). I expected to choke hard on flag 1 but I somehow held in and did it. I'm looking forward to your sub-50 guide, as I'm feeling the urge to improve further.
Wow that’s incredible! GGs 😁 flag 1 is SO nerve wracking at the end of a good run so I totally feel ya. Sub 50 guide is being grinded out as much as possible at this point
@@AverageImposter I thought I’d add in a sneaky update with my progress, since I’ve still been practising since the original comment. Still only going A-sides for now, and no neutral jumping or wavedashes because I’m still terrible at executing them, but making reasonable use of supers, hypers and wall bounces. I’m now down to a cool 44:56. That run I thought I’d choked on flag 3 and 2, but overestimated how long flag 2 and 1 takes so just scraped in. I know I can still do better too, even with no route or mechanical changes, since I’m still hanging around 60-70 deaths a run. Thanks again for the video, and probably even more so for the consistent encouragement in comment replies to everyone here - that’s a really big boost to mindset that we really can do this. (Still feel like a scrub compared to the BTA competitions though, they’re packed with talented runners.) Appreciate what you do, and looking forward to more from you.
Damn, thanks for this incredible guide, I followed it and the IL videos and got my first sub hour (57:33) aftet only a week of training! Now aiming for sub 50 and maybe 40 after
I've been speedrunning casually for 6 months or so now, and after finding this video, I got my time down to 1:20:25 or so. but after the sub-50 starts video, I managed to get a sub hour with a 59:30! I know it'll take a while for the next one to come out (just see the delay between sub-hour and sub-50), but I'm super excited and can't wait.
Looking forward to speedrunning celeste, totally earned that sub! I just finished summit and it took me 14 hours (143 berries collected) and I can't wait to start learning proper running the game!
Thank you for the support! I’d definitely say enjoy and relish in all the vanilla aspects of Celeste including the berry collections and all since once you start running the game, you look back and think “huh, I’ve come a long way!” And it can be super rewarding. However you decide to take on the game, you’ve got this! 😁
watching this video having just been running 7A and nothing else (I got a 13:46 so far)!! I have caved and am finally seeking speedrun advice instead of working the techs out on my own
Thanks for this video - it is wonderfully made. After lots and lots of practice, I worked my way from 1:20 to 1:15 to 1:10 to 1:05 and then...1:02...and 1:01, and finally just scored a 59min 10sec with 140 deaths. Definitely room to keep going, too.
yo nice video. I really liked the editing and presentation of it with the debug map and the highlighted rooms it makes it nice to look at. Also for example at 16:38 you also want to press confirm when you retry to skip a part of the animation which AverageImposter didn't do here
You got this! Sometimes Celeste can be overwhelming but something that’s kept me going is knowing everything can happen in due time! With any amount of practice you can do whatever you set out to accomplish 😁
Recently came back to this game after putting it down for a year and a half for a variety of reasons. At the time my pb was a 1:07:51.568. Found this video. Decided I was going to be stubborn and NOT watch it until I got sub-hour first. Well I did it. 59:07.764. Here I am, and hoo boy I have SO much I didn’t even know about that I need to learn and implement. Amazing guide! Maybe I’ll try for sub-55 just using stuff from this video before watching the sub-50 guide. I think I just like torturing myself. But I will DEFINITELY keep watching these!
This video was EXTREMELY useful. Thanks so much! It must've taken a really long time to make as well. The one downside to it was that the room with that bunny you really hate is now harder for me than it previously was just because you emphasized how difficult it was so often!
I've consistently gotten my time down in every single attempt I do, I went from 4:06 to 2:07 to 1:38 to 1:36 to 1:26 to now 1:17 and the best thing I found is obviously to die less and just be consistent, I don't know how much longer my time improvement streak is going to last tho as now I feel like the improvements are going to get much smaller
Wow that’s insane!! Improvement every attempt is huuuuuge. Obviously the increments will get smaller, but as long as you keep practicing and having fun then you can keep pushing that time lower! Best of luck 😁
the last part of the escape from Oshiro at 17:40 literally broke me. I died over 1000 times in Resort alone. The rest of the game I was like "how the fuck are you supposed to do this without assist mode?" more than I care to admit. I actually won that game on a bet and I still felt cheated. >>
26:26 when you get some more *advanced mechanics under your belt* also averageimposter: *extended hyper into a corner boost into a reverse wavedash into an ultra and using the momentum of the ultra to up right dash into badeline*
super well made i love this video! have a sub 40 and still find myself learning new things from this like death confirming and auto skip cutscene buttons, guess i need to make those :D
@@AverageImposter true, this game became my all time favorite before I even learned anything new, and after I started running it, it became even better to me with imo the best movement mechanics in any game I have ever played
1000% recommend running Celeste! Personally the game really taught me a lot about the process of learning and that practice gets rewarded big time. You’ve got this!
Wow, you guys did crazy amount of work on this video. I always thought the speedrunning is cool as hell but I never tried it myself. Now I’m on the part where you pick the game, so I’m choosing between Hollow Knight and Celeste. Have a lot more experience in HK but I’m a little scared to grind it even more and get frustrated in the end or even drop the game. On the other hand I just finished casual playthrough of Celeste a couple months ago and your video gives such a mood boost and it simply “talks” to me as a new player. It’s amazing. I might actually try it 😅 TL DR: Thanks for the amazing content! Loved it!
Hopefully ya do join the crew and run Celeste! But HK is also fantastic so I wouldn’t blame you lol. Thank you so much for watching and the kind words! 🥺
I just started seriously speedrunning the game a few days ago (I had been doing it like 2 years ago but I just never did research) and like a day after watching this I not only got sub 1 hr, I just hit 47 minutes. You are a champion
Something I've noticed is for any room with rithm blocks, like finding b sides or that part of farewell, is you wont respawn at the same point in the cycle every time because the blocks follow the music, so dying on different beats will respawn you at different points
11:15 I found that it’s easier and faster to do a diagonal dash into the bottom left coin first, then after collecting the next two use the dream block to get to the last one quickly
This video is great. I already have a sub 1 hour (55 minutes) but I learned tons of good stuff like the time skip in chapter 5 (yes I was getting the keys for this one and didn't know yet about the secret bubble). This will surely help me get close to sub 50 :)
@@AverageImposter Thanks! I made 48:49 and still a lot of room for improvement (my death count is still quite high). So eventually I think I can get near 45 mins with my current routing and movement. Thanks again for your well done video.
Thank you! Went from 1:50 to 0:59 in one week thanks to this video. However I did use a bit less strats than the video recommended and mainly improved through just dying less and knowing where to go. The "big skip" in chapter 5 was oddly consistent for me. Never missed it once in like 10 runs. If you suck in one chapter you can make up the time in other chapters. There is a lot of time to be gained from just not dying a lot :)

ive been wanting to try out speedrunning celeste but i play different games too much so ive never felt like properly investing time into cutting down time. ive done 2 full run games with basically no practice playing just of my main game knowledge and some strats i saw in this video. my first time was just a few minutes under 2 hours (i was basically just trying out and learning some strats lol) and my second was 1:15:00. it was actually surprisingly fun to try and go through the game fast
Thanks for this guide! I got a 1:13:48 then a 1:06:13 yesterday and did a little practice today using the tool and despite a ton of silly deaths my movement is starting to feel cleaner and I got a 58:43 my 3rd run! :)
You know I’m surprised I haven’t played Celeste in a long while and I look at these room maps and I’m like “oh yeah that’s that bit of the ruins” or “that’s the mapping to the temple”
@@ShadowDancer1000 I use Everest in order to get access to debug mode. If you download Everest as a mod (downloading Olympus then using it to get Everest makes this easy) you can enable Debug in settings if it isn’t already active, then see which button is configured to open the debug map while you’re in the chapter. You can also change the binding that exists for it
@@AverageImposter I’m gonna be honest with you idk what you’re talking about but I’ll figure it out somehow Oh I play Xbox btw so I might not be able to do it anyhow
first run was a 1:41 after like 1,5 years of not playing (i got 180berries, all crystal hearts + farewell) Hope to get 58minutes soon i was suprised how well i still knew the route
@@AverageImposter yeah, your video also helped. 3rd run 1 09 with 183 deaths If i halve my deaths i save like another 5 minutes Edit: OH, i HATE Ch3, that fricking last partindied like 7 times right on the final screen 49 deaths in ch3 is wayyyy to much
When ever I play a platformer I'm always trying to beat each room very quickly dieing a lot because I always find it easier (and more fun sometimes) to find a death cycle route then to just be patient.
Death cycles are always fun and very important to learn in speedrunning! Lots of top runners resort to having a backup plan in a lot of problematic rooms if things don’t go the way they plan to

"Recently" got into speedrunning via Ori WotW (Goal was sub 30) and wanted to now also learn Any% Celeste (after only completing the game once but seeing TAS-Bot at GDQ and multiple other awesome runners).
Already got a sub 2 hours run. ;)
So I'm looking forward to this series to progess even further. :)
Ayyy congrats! I got into speedrunning through Hollow Knight but personally vibed with the Celeste advanced movement more. These videos take a TON of time to get out but definitely planning on trying to get the others out in a reasonable time frame! 😁
@@AverageImposter That's awesome, Hollow Knight is such an awesome game!
A friend of mine is learning Hollow Knight right now so I wanted to learn something different to later on show each other the runs.. ^^
Looking forward to the 40 Minute ones, as I'm using some speedrun tech already, but I still suck too much to not die way over a hundred times per run. xD
Especially summit is so hard the first few times, that level almost takes me 30 minutes...
nice, i'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the guides come out 👀 this is a great start to the series
Damn I wish I had this video when I was first learning the run, very well done! Can't wait for the rest of the series :)
Also I literally have 900 hours in celeste and a 32 minute any%, and did not know that badeline throws you high enough to grab that wall at 37:38
Thank you so much, Goose! Oh yea that little bit was something i just remember seeing top players doing and was like “wait… that’s not all too difficult!”
I love that you explain it so excited!
(Still feel like a scrub compared to the BTA competitions though, they’re packed with talented runners.)
Appreciate what you do, and looking forward to more from you.
Great guide! This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks!
Thanks so much! Happy to have helped 😁 good luck getting those speedy times!
YOOOOOO huge!! Hopefully it won’t be THAT long until the sub 40 😂 but hopefully I can get it to ya sooner rather than later!
Nice video ! Thanks a lot, really helpfull !
Amazing video! I love the idea of making a video for every skill level. You did a good work with this one, keep It going! 💪
Thank you so much! Working hard to get the next one out soon!
Underrated af thank you so much I want to start speed running now lol
Ayyyyy thanks! Do it!
780 subs?? You deserve way more! Great job guys!!! Just finishing up Farewell after having beaten all the C-sides, then my next goal is sub-hour!
Thank you so much! GL with farewell and can’t wait for ya to try for sub-hour! 😁
This video is incredible. I know your gonna get a lot of subs soon
Thank you! I’m already at a sub count waaaay higher than I ever thought I’d be 😭
Looking forward to speedrunning celeste, totally earned that sub!
@@AverageImposter thanks a ton!! Already tot 1:50 chap 1 and 3:20 chap 2, now to the third one!! Not looking forward to it, but i gotta learn it
8 minutes into the video. I'm really liking this. Besides being informative it's also funny. Thank you mate :D
Finished the video. It's a really great video. Recommend it.
watching this video having just been running 7A and nothing else (I got a 13:46 so far)!!
CONGRATS! That’s some huuuuuge progress! Hopefully I can get the sub 50 video out before you break that barrier!
@@AverageImposter I'm at sub 52 - where that video?! lol
@@paulballance7943 check back in a week from now 👀
yo nice video. I really liked the editing and presentation of it with the debug map and the highlighted rooms it makes it nice to look at.
Also for example at 16:38 you also want to press confirm when you retry to skip a part of the animation which AverageImposter didn't do here
Oops I goofed 🤦 thanks for pointing that out! And thank you!
I was quite tired of all these Celeste attempts but after watching this video it give me a nice boost to continue, thank you!!
You got this! Sometimes Celeste can be overwhelming but something that’s kept me going is knowing everything can happen in due time! With any amount of practice you can do whatever you set out to accomplish 😁
This vid was so helpful! Just went from a 1:35:30 to a 57:40 with these strats
gg bro
Thank you! I am so close with 1:09.10 as my current time. This helps a bunch!
Ayyyy you’ll make it there in no time! So glad that it’s been helpful 😁
But I will DEFINITELY keep watching these!
this video helped a lot. thank you. i needed an in depth guide thats not too overwhelming
Back again after being shaken a bit, again thankful this exists.
Wow, this is such a good video!! I hope you are very proud of yourself
Thank you! After so much love and support it’s been overwhelming 😭
This video was EXTREMELY useful. Thanks so much! It must've taken a really long time to make as well. The one downside to it was that the room with that bunny you really hate is now harder for me than it previously was just because you emphasized how difficult it was so often!
I've consistently gotten my time down in every single attempt I do,
I went from 4:06 to 2:07 to 1:38 to 1:36 to 1:26 to now 1:17 and the best thing I found is obviously to die less and just be consistent, I don't know how much longer my time improvement streak is going to last tho as now I feel like the improvements are going to get much smaller
This game is by NO MEANS easy, major props for finishing it! If you beat it, it definitely wasn’t on a whim. You deserve the win 😁
26:26 when you get some more *advanced mechanics under your belt*
also averageimposter: *extended hyper into a corner boost into a reverse wavedash into an ultra and using the momentum of the ultra to up right dash into badeline*
Oops, just the simple things no big deal 😬
super well made i love this video! have a sub 40 and still find myself learning new things from this like death confirming and auto skip cutscene buttons, guess i need to make those :D
Thank you!! 😁 it’s so wild that a game with only 3 core mechanics (jump, dash, grab) has SO many things to learn from!
@@AverageImposter true, this game became my all time favorite before I even learned anything new, and after I started running it, it became even better to me with imo the best movement mechanics in any game I have ever played
thanks, this came up on my timeline. im a washed up super mario odyssey runner and have always been interested in celeste
1000% recommend running Celeste! Personally the game really taught me a lot about the process of learning and that practice gets rewarded big time. You’ve got this!
damn i feel called out by this comment lol
Wow, you guys did crazy amount of work on this video. I always thought the speedrunning is cool as hell but I never tried it myself. Now I’m on the part where you pick the game, so I’m choosing between Hollow Knight and Celeste. Have a lot more experience in HK but I’m a little scared to grind it even more and get frustrated in the end or even drop the game. On the other hand I just finished casual playthrough of Celeste a couple months ago and your video gives such a mood boost and it simply “talks” to me as a new player. It’s amazing. I might actually try it 😅
TL DR: Thanks for the amazing content!
Thanks for making this! I just started speedrunning Celeste, and got a 1:02 on my second run thanks to this!
My second ever celeste speedrun :), 1:30:40.272 in game time and 307 deaths
HECK YEA! Congrats! I hope you keep pushing your limits and keep running!
dude, thanks for the guide! i used some of the strats from the video and just got my first sub-hour!(:D)Really excited to learn more tech
Something I've noticed is for any room with rithm blocks, like finding b sides or that part of farewell, is you wont respawn at the same point in the cycle every time because the blocks follow the music, so dying on different beats will respawn you at different points
Yep! The only way to reset the cycle is to leave the room and come back in
11:15 I found that it’s easier and faster to do a diagonal dash into the bottom left coin first, then after collecting the next two use the dream block to get to the last one quickly
Thanks a lot! Helped me get my first sub hour!
Hell yea! Congrats!!
This video is great. I already have a sub 1 hour (55 minutes) but I learned tons of good stuff like the time skip in chapter 5 (yes I was getting the keys for this one and didn't know yet about the secret bubble). This will surely help me get close to sub 50 :)
GL on sub 50! You can do it!!
@@AverageImposter Thanks! I made 48:49 and still a lot of room for improvement (my death count is still quite high). So eventually I think I can get near 45 mins with my current routing and movement. Thanks again for your well done video.
Thanks to your video i got a 58:54 run
Let’s go! That’s awesome!! Breaking the hour barrier was my first huge sense of accomplishment in running this game
2h30 of speedrunning and I'm at 1:37.920 in forsaken and 3:26.023 in old site :D
so happy rn thanks for the vid 😁
Of course! So glad it’s been helpful! 😁
There is a lot of time to be gained from just not dying a lot :)
i love this video i got motivated to speedrun the game and almost did sub 2 hours on my very frist attempt thank you a lot! which this video i am truly motivated to get the sub hour 🤩
Let’s goooooo you got this!!
Update:i keep getting Faster and now my PB its a 1:07 close
Runs that i got bettwen
Sub 1:50
Sub 1:30 skiped 1:40 pog
1:18
1:16
Got a 1:05 :( its was sub hour potencial just needed a 18 summit but my nervous was to high and cound't Control also its had an insane resort almost sub 8
just got a 1:02 i chocked summit and with that im going to review the video and try again i got an INSANE TIME in the others and i leaved reflection with sub 40 and i ended up no even doing sub 20 summit
This guide was very very helpful, I was able to get a 54:03 by this after practicing.
Congrats!! 54:03 is huuuuuuuge
Incredible video, absolutely incredible!
Thank you!! Hopefully the next one can measure up the same way 😁
@@AverageImposter Keep at it!
exceptional video, any time i watch this my PB drops by 1 minute
ive been wanting to try out speedrunning celeste but i play different games too much so ive never felt like properly investing time into cutting down time. ive done 2 full run games with basically no practice playing just of my main game knowledge and some strats i saw in this video. my first time was just a few minutes under 2 hours (i was basically just trying out and learning some strats lol) and my second was 1:15:00. it was actually surprisingly fun to try and go through the game fast
Thanks for this guide! I got a 1:13:48 then a 1:06:13 yesterday and did a little practice today using the tool and despite a ton of silly deaths my movement is starting to feel cleaner and I got a 58:43 my 3rd run! :)
I have a 48 minute Any% time and I did not know about the climb jump stamina tech, more you know
I still don’t even have it in my muscle memory with a 32 any% so I don’t blame ya, but definitely good for consistency
You deserve waaay more subscribers
Wow thank you! 😁 I can’t believe we’re almost at 2k already tbh
great tutorial im surprised that it doesnt have that many views
Thank you! It’s honestly got more views than I was anticipating lol
You know I’m surprised I haven’t played Celeste in a long while and I look at these room maps and I’m like “oh yeah that’s that bit of the ruins” or “that’s the mapping to the temple”
I felt this same way using the debug map for the first time. It’s so cool to see the layout of everything!
@@AverageImposter how do you do that btw
@@ShadowDancer1000 I use Everest in order to get access to debug mode. If you download Everest as a mod (downloading Olympus then using it to get Everest makes this easy) you can enable Debug in settings if it isn’t already active, then see which button is configured to open the debug map while you’re in the chapter. You can also change the binding that exists for it
@@AverageImposter I’m gonna be honest with you idk what you’re talking about but I’ll figure it out somehow
Oh I play Xbox btw so I might not be able to do it anyhow
first run was a 1:41 after like 1,5 years of not playing (i got 180berries, all crystal hearts + farewell)
Hope to get 58minutes soon
i was suprised how well i still knew the route
Wow that’s pretty amazing for not playing in so long! Muscle memory goes a long way. Each run helps more and more in getting the time down
@@AverageImposter yeah, your video also helped. 3rd run 1 09 with 183 deaths
If i halve my deaths i save like another 5 minutes
Edit: OH, i HATE Ch3, that fricking last partindied like 7 times right on the final screen
49 deaths in ch3 is wayyyy to much
Just started trying to speedrun and got a 2:12:36. Glad you've made this video lol, wish me luck.
Yoooo good luck! You got this!
@@AverageImposter Managed to PB with a 1:27:13 just now. Was doing some single chapter runs but kinda forgot about doing a full game run lol.
Really cool video! Nice quality!
When ever I play a platformer I'm always trying to beat each room very quickly dieing a lot because I always find it easier (and more fun sometimes) to find a death cycle route then to just be patient.
Death cycles are always fun and very important to learn in speedrunning! Lots of top runners resort to having a backup plan in a lot of problematic rooms if things don’t go the way they plan to
Dude, i was trying to get sub hour for soo long and after 250 hours of gameplay i gave up, but thanks to my brother and you, it gave me enough confidence to try again, and this night i did it. By even doing it casually. Lmao. Thank you soo much for giving me enough confidence to try again and let me succede. Love you man, i hope i will get sub 50:00 one day or another ^^'
LESSGOOOOO! there’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing it casually. You had a goal and you achieved it and that’s all that matters
No offense, but with 250 hours I'd expect you to be some type of celeste god. Is it mainly because you've been playing very slowly/forgot to turn off your game sometimes?
@@dickurkel6910 most of those hours i put in i wasnt doing or learning speedrun strats so i still have new things to learn
@@leo99zeren69 Same for me, most of my time wasn't learning any strats, but with only ~50 hours I've already gotten 193 berries and a sub 45 min time. Playing a lot is bound to make you improve regardless of what you do.

Golden ridge cliff face wind killed so many of my runs for the a-side golden strawberry. Chapter 4 is my favorite and least favorite chapter.
I just beat sub 1 hour!! Ty so much for making it easy for someone who doesn’t have the fingers of a TAS bot (I use a controller)
YOOOOO congrats! I also use controller. No worries, the next parts of this series will get ya fingers there!
"if you're Ridge time is less than seven minutes we’re sitting pretty comfy"
Me with a rigde time of over 7 hours (granted it's my first playthrough)
Oh goodness I don’t even wanna go back and check how long ridge took me the first time. I had like 35 hours of playtime total for the base game first time around lol
i got 50:59 thanks to this video
