Although I already knew most of these, because I am a massive Celeste fan, I still really enjoyed this video, because you put most of the Easter eggs into one easy to digest video.
Something that I always hold dear to my heart is that the article confirming Madeline's transness was published only 6 days before I finally confirmed my own transness Celeste had always been my favorite game and when I found out how close me and Madeline actually were it made me love it even more I celebrate November 11th as my birthday now!
This was a great video! I've been really into Celeste for quite a while but even I didn't know all of these secrets. I wanted to add some extra details for anyone interested: 3:13 the 'locals' in the photo are actually Maddy (Matt at the time -- front) and Noel (back): the lead developers of Celeste 4:24 Madeline practicing archery was actually posted in time to promote the addition of Madeline and Badeline into Towerfall: Ascension for the Switch (iirc) 5:24 Celeste 2 released in January 2021 to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the full PC/Console version of Celeste -- I livestreamed it on my alt ( ruclips.net/user/RaddedMC ) Edit: Oh I forgot another thing: If you name your character 'Alex', the name of Theo's sister becomes 'Madeline' You can actually see what Theo's sister's name is in your savefile on the PC version, since the saves are just XML.
Something i always find funny about Madeline being trans is that 1. I somehow didn't catch on, even with the pride flags 2. About a month or so after Maddy confirmed Madeline was trans, i realizsd that i also was trans, which made me realize why i loved celeste so much. Especially so since Madeline is amazing transfemme representation imo. I related a lot to her character even before realizing she was trans, and now also being transfemme i can relate even more
4:09, picture in the background has Badeline in it although it was pre-mountain. I don't think anybody has noticed this. Perhaps this was the way Madeline thought of the picture and imagined her anxiety there although it was never Badeline. I am not sure. What are your thoughts? -sincerely Uel

It took my dumbass a few months to realise the metaphors shown throughout the game and the fact that Madeline is trans, it’s like my processing was just like “ooga booga pixel platform game”
In your defense, the lead dev didn't realize it until the development of Chapter 9 update. They just based Madeline largely on their personal experiences. The community figured it out before Maddy figured themself out.
I did 1A dashless with the same guide a few weeks ago and holy hell it is like 10x better than any other guides I saw but that last room is brutal and I dont blame you for not attempting moonberry it killed me but I did get it after like 2 days of attempts (i didnt play nonstop or anything)
15:12 What. Those statues were definitely not there when I spent an hour poking at that white block and then eventually looking up a guide. This is clearly the Mandelbrot effect in action
I feel that the whole "was madeline being trans meant to be hidden so it would be more relatable to cis people" thing is a bit ignorant. The story isn't about her being trans, it's about her struggles with depression and anxiety. Her personality trait isn't being trans, it doesn't need to be stated, any trans person doesn't HAVE to say that they're trans to every person they meet anyways. I love that Madeline is trans thought, it's a neat thing that im sure many of the people in the community appreciate.
you realise those struggles of her character were based off of Maddy's own experiences no? I think Maddy may have already known she was trans when writing the game but even if not there would definitely be some part of it that was reflected in the narrative, even if unintentional

Celeste had always been my favorite game and when I found out how close me and Madeline actually were it made me love it even more
I celebrate November 11th as my birthday now!
Goodness, I love this game so much. Thanks for sharing all of this!
nice pfp
This was a great video! I've been really into Celeste for quite a while but even I didn't know all of these secrets.
I wanted to add some extra details for anyone interested:
3:13 the 'locals' in the photo are actually Maddy (Matt at the time -- front) and Noel (back): the lead developers of Celeste
4:24 Madeline practicing archery was actually posted in time to promote the addition of Madeline and Badeline into Towerfall: Ascension for the Switch (iirc)
5:24 Celeste 2 released in January 2021 to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the full PC/Console version of Celeste -- I livestreamed it on my alt ( ruclips.net/user/RaddedMC )
Edit: Oh I forgot another thing: If you name your character 'Alex', the name of Theo's sister becomes 'Madeline'
You can actually see what Theo's sister's name is in your savefile on the PC version, since the saves are just XML.
Yeah finally a video from dpadgamer and it is Celeste !
2:04 Wow that’s such a cool trick!
yo gyro
@@-username-6442 Hey kid, wanna learn the Golden Rotation?
4:21 The archery photo coincided with Madeline being included as a playable character in the Switch version of Towerfall
6:14 this feather btw helped me in real panic attack, so thanks Celeste👍
I was thinking did somebody actually get help from that feather ?
Something i always find funny about Madeline being trans is that
1. I somehow didn't catch on, even with the pride flags
2. About a month or so after Maddy confirmed Madeline was trans, i realizsd that i also was trans, which made me realize why i loved celeste so much. Especially so since Madeline is amazing transfemme representation imo. I related a lot to her character even before realizing she was trans, and now also being transfemme i can relate even more
i read it as "Mountain of Faith" and thought Dpadgamer made a Touhou video
a touhou brain is a touhou brain..
4:09, picture in the background has Badeline in it although it was pre-mountain. I don't think anybody has noticed this.
Perhaps this was the way Madeline thought of the picture and imagined her anxiety there although it was never Badeline. I am not sure. What are your thoughts? -sincerely Uel
no it doesn't?
Where the hell do you see badeline. All I can see that you might think is her is the person Madeline calls at the end of chapter 2
I'm pretty sure that's not badeline..
Idk, first thing I thought when I saw it. Wouldn't make sense but you know, purple hair and pufferjacket. Could you see why I thought it? -sincerely Uel
@@sincerelyuel blue hair...
small correction regarding 11:15 , the bird in the spectrograph isnt grannys bird, thats archie, the pet of speedrunner NotKain who has become kinda the mascot for celeste speedrunning. he even has a piece of movement tech named after him
This is fantastic stuff! Thanks for this overview, a lot that was new to me! I should really try to beat Farewell sometime...
@JaggerG Yup!
The protagonist of my favorite game ever being trans has to be the best things ever in the world!
I did 1A dashless with the same guide a few weeks ago and holy hell it is like 10x better than any other guides I saw but that last room is brutal and I dont blame you for not attempting moonberry it killed me but I did get it after like 2 days of attempts (i didnt play nonstop or anything)
I always find new reasons to love this game
15:12 What. Those statues were definitely not there when I spent an hour poking at that white block and then eventually looking up a guide. This is clearly the Mandelbrot effect in action
"Mandelbrot effect" 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
In the secret dev room, the flying 1 eyed bat is the logo from the brasilian studio "mini-boss" which has 2 artists of it working in celeste
I remembered feeling so smart when I figured that super Mario 3 puzzle.
@@akgfilming She did not know she was trans while making the game.
@@wren6323 did she not?! did she say that anywhere
@@akgfilming "During Celeste’s development, I did not know that Madeline or myself were trans. During the Farewell DLC’s development, I began to form a hunch. Post-development, I now know that we both are."- Maddy Thorson.
This is from the first paragraph in the medium article she wrote about Madeline being canonically trans. She did say that it was still unknowingly to her written from a trans perspective, like Madeline running from her own reflection.
@@wren6323 oh okay thank you!!!
that dev screen was my computer background for so long, so everytime i logged on, i could see the difficult platforming i had overcome
The only thing that I learn from this game is that If you’re trans u have double jump….
And that’s cool
yep, and if you're trans and plural you have triple jump
@@tempest_dawn and if you're trans, plural and brazillian you get a quadrouple jump... And a winning smile
As a trans Person i can confirm this
I haven't gotten my double jump yet, do I unlock it by taking E or is there a cheat code I don't know the inputs for?
Plot twist: Trans people are very good at speedrunnning mountain climbing.
i always learn more and more easter eggs in this game! great video :)
I only finished the main story! The B-sides are too complex for me! XD
4:27 I thought this was him revisiting Granny’s shack, since he mentions saying Farewell (the extra chapter’s name, and a reference to him saying goodbye to Granny) and he asks Madeline to text him (likely because she wasn’t at the funeral)
0:49 you didn’t get the speed from the hyper so it’s technically not a hyper, also hypers that you extend like that are called extended hypers, not just hypers. I think a wavedash or super would do you just fine there
celeste classic 2 was actually released in 2021, on the full game's 3rd anniversary
Dpad, hello
Have a nice day!
I FINNALY MADE THE DEVS EOOM WITHOUT ASSIST
Wow... Even as a trans girl myself i didnt know Madeline is trans or could be trans. But i love it.
I've 100%'d this game multiple times over the years it's been out (except for the golden strawberry in chapter 9), and I STILL never noticed that the white mario block in chapter 4 has crouching Madelines next to it
It's been added in a recent update, so that players wouldn't miss the Heart because they didn't play Mario 3.
Wait what?? There's a golden strawberry at chapter 9?????
@@bareq99 Yep, I believe it appears after you beat chapter 9 for the first time, but good luck getting it
@@vsptylore3639 Jesus f*cking christ
How tf can anyone finish ALL of chapter 9 with no deaths is beyond me 💀
Really hope the bow gets involved if there is a sequel to Celeste.
1:42 I actually saw that one in game
Damn, that's a lot of love for a great game
2:04 The cutest way to rickroll
Hey guys remember the game sonic adventure 1 well I think that the Easter egg is in both Dx directors cut and the original game but if you go in mission mode and play as knuckles you go tails workshop but right before to get to stairs witch lead to tails work shop you’ll a big big flat area and you’ll the Easter eggs
I just got this game and it’s so fun
That article about Madeline being trans is what made me start speedrunning Celesele and start streaming, as I myself as trans. 🏳️⚧️
Its the reason I started playing the game, as I don't usually 0lay platforms. And heck I'm so glad I did, I beat it 2 days ago and it was great
Nice my friend
Love to all
11:17 omg it that the bird from the fake world record run
Isnt the bird parrot referenc to wr speedrunner who cheated his run by mashing his best times on single levels and covering save indicator by said parrot?
Wow I played this once, this should be fun
I love in Theo's insta, the one pic with Maddie's rainbow socks
I know I’m a year late, but you missed the secret ending for collecting all 202 berries, including the Easter egg ones! Instead of baking a pie, Madeline bakes a cake!
I may uh be 5 months late but thats a mod
8:34 I couldn't do it bc of the key Tab that makes me enter the debug mode lol, but it's a funny curiosity
when i told my friend i hadn't played celeste (a few months ago) he was like "a trans person who hasnt played celeste?? wowwww" and i didnt know why. and then i saw the farewell cutscene and i said oh okay. okay
one i dont see many people mention is the secret poem at the end of old site
I’ve played this game for 3 years and never noticed the crouching Madeline’s in 4a heart. Are they new?
9:14 that voice crack is criminal ☠️
Damn Madeline rickroll'd us
Another cool Easter egg if you’re name is Alex Theo says his sisters name is Madeleine I don’t know why but it’s a neat little egg
4:13 me, a brazilian: (happiness noises)
Syrawberries represent madelines progress and in ch 6 there is no strawberries beacause madeline does not progress until she reconciles with badeline
never give you up [but in beeps and boops]
I cant believe I just got rickrolled by MADELINE
Madeline has rickrolled you.
2:04
Madeline singing NGGYU is not what I wanted to hear today
Fun fact on the final part of the moon level you can get special dialogue by dying a whole bunch of times
I didnt expect that troll file!
