Oneshot! You cant watch it without spoilers or even google it without spoilers, but it is a really good time if you take the time (which is not much, it took me and a few of my friends around a few hours to do the *full* game. It does have a warning of flashes, but I dont know how.
The downwards and upwards "wind" in the last section of Summit REALLY made me think of mountain climbing. It felt so much like exhaustion dragging you down until you endure and push through it. The upwards wind section was like the giddiness of a runner's high.
This game means so much to me. Last year I had to deal with the tragedy of my best friend and sister passing away. It feels as though this game was made for me. My sister had chosen her grandmother's name, Celeste. She had picked the name after the game was already on my radar and when she told me that she had picked it and I brought up the game. So I wound up getting her a copy for her birthday. She sadly passed away before she had the chance to play it. I've been dealing with that loss for a few months now. I see her everywhere, but I know that it isn't her and that she's gone. This game is one of the only places where I allow myself to see her. I've now completed the game but I will forever treasure it and the place where I can see my sister again. I love you Celeste and I appreciate the hard work that was put into this game. It has transcended every aspect and has become a place for me to mourn her loss and appreciate the memories of our time together.
Just so y'all know, maddy thorson doesn't look like that at all. That's a pre-transition photo, she actually has transitioned and passes in public most of the time.

Celeste is more than just a game. Its is an experience and heartfelt story about learning to cope with inner depression instead of running away from it. Also one the best soundtracks in a video game period.
I don't think it's only about depression but rather the insecure part of yourself that tries to keep you safe by preventing you from taking risks. I call this resistance. The same feeling you get when you have to start homework, learn a new skill, or show something you prefer not to.

Idk why nobody is pointing this out but I actually really like the backgrounds, they’re really creative, i like that you’ve put the campfire scene in chapter 6 on the top layer, so that its in front of footage and stuff- that makes it feel like they’re really here in the video! And another thing i like is that the frame is a celeste postcard. Theres a lot of personalization added to the videos that i always notice, like you play the game’s soundtrack for the whole video, you used the same font that was usually used for the text in the game, you had snow going across the screen, you used the same kind of profile thing that you see on the screen where you pick a save file. Its just very creative, well thought out and nice to look at! Well done!
Damn. I knew that Celeste is a beautiful game, but I did not know that there was such a story behind it. I didn't play the game or have seen lots of gameplay of it, but this video gave me goosebumps lots of times

Great game. Cute, heartfelt story. Although, I never thought it touched on depression. To me depression is a serious sense of hoplessness. The gondola scene was my favorite. I could feel the anxiety there, but who wouldn't panic in that situation? The story seemed like an internal struggle. Madeline vs Self doubt (Badeline). The mountain represents everything that blocks or discourages her from achieving her goals. In the end Madeline learns to accept her doubt as a tool to learn from. At least that's the way I interpreted it.

Idk why the story of how this game was made makes me emotional. I have to buy a Nintendo switch Lite again this weekend I miss playing this game.edit I know why this chokes me up, I was playing this game at the height of my depression and moving on from an obsession with someone. The graphics and game play made me feel like a kid again while at the same time confronting my depression with the story
I got Celeste in the itch.io racial justice charity bundle a while ago. Does anyone know if that has all the extra content that the Steam release does? E.g. chapter 9, the Pico-8 Easter egg. I'm only on chapter 3 so even if it doesn't, I'm sure it'll take me a while to get through the content that it does have. Oh, and great vid.
Thank you! And if I'm not mistaken, every version of Celeste receives the free updates (including chapter 9) so you should be good. The Pico-8 easter egg needs to be unlocked by playing, but I don't remember how.

Appreciate it! 🙏
@ShitterMan It's age restricted, so I have a sneaking suspicion it's not a secret ending.
Why does Theo have a gigachad face shape.
Because he's the ultimate giga chad from Seatle.
Lena Raine is so cool
They need celeste 2! The mountain strikes back!
They made celeste 2 but it was made in the style of the celeste classic. look it up online it’s free to play
Another great video!
Thank you! 🙏
The music in Celeste is amazing
I could be wrong but I belive they used the monogame framework which is built upon on the Xna framework that was discontinued by Microsoft in 2014
Imagine if they ever make a Celeste 2
They made a sequel to the pico-8 version
Sadly they already said they have no plans to make a sequel, so the closest you'll get is the Strawberry Jam map pack.
Celeste is such a cool game and increadible video man :]
I really want that old map
Idk why the story of how this game was made makes me emotional. I have to buy a Nintendo switch Lite again this weekend I miss playing this game.edit I know why this chokes me up, I was playing this game at the height of my depression and moving on from an obsession with someone. The graphics and game play made me feel like a kid again while at the same time confronting my depression with the story
Maddy = Madeline
🤯
A hyperidalized version*
I mean, I'm pretty sure her full legal name is literally Madeline Stephanie Thorson. Or something like that.
@@RealSnuuy what
Guess we have to watch it again. At least I have something to do for now.
Appreciate the rewatch!
amazing video😄
Thank you!
oh why was this re-uploaded
good vid btw
I got Celeste in the itch.io racial justice charity bundle a while ago. Does anyone know if that has all the extra content that the Steam release does? E.g. chapter 9, the Pico-8 Easter egg. I'm only on chapter 3 so even if it doesn't, I'm sure it'll take me a while to get through the content that it does have.
Oh, and great vid.
Thank you! And if I'm not mistaken, every version of Celeste receives the free updates (including chapter 9) so you should be good. The Pico-8 easter egg needs to be unlocked by playing, but I don't remember how.
@@ThatGuyGlen Awesome. Thanks for the reply.
Love this series!
Glad you like it! I love working on this series so expect more videos soon :D
ThatGuyGlen as an aspiring indie dev, they are super inspiring and motivating.
Makes me happy to hear that! I try to pick games that have the most interesting and inspiring development stories. The next video is definitely going to be just that :D
Assist mode is great
