  • The Airbus A380 fate seemed dead and buried during the height of the global pandemic. However, airlines returned the type to service in sheer numbers to meet rising demand and combat the increasing supply chain struggles resulting in delayed delivery of new aircraft. Will the resurgence of the A380 last?

    In the end - maybe ten or so years down the line - there will be a A380neo. Slots are limited, MANY more people will want to fly. Thus. I’m 100% certain.
    Even today, new engines plus some modifications on the winglets would make the current A380 about 20% more fuel efficient. Without any redesign of the airframe.

    Supplier difficulties will help keep the A380 going for another ten years and the rest is a mix of Boeing's troubles, world politics and how much demand grows at slot restricted airports. We await with interest, and hopefully at least 25 more years of A380s.

    I enjoyed my round trip flights to Australia and back a few years ago, courtesy of A380s both way. They are much quieter and smoother flying than the 747, and much roomier than the 777. I've flown business class in all three and much prefer the A380. I hope that Airbus find a way to restart production with a NEO version. I am sure it would be the airliner that Cunard would have wanted to fly were they around today.

    The A380 is a wonderful aircraft. One has to ponder the question regarding future travel expansion. Then the question is are Airbus willing to redesign the A380 wing to accommodate the new Roles Royse engine. Then the A380 could be flying for many more years into the future

    I have two BA A380 flights coming up. The airline is already operating three flights per day on my transatlantic route, there aren't the spare slots to add more flights. I just flew to Singapore and back on SIAs A380. The 15 hour flight back (due to strong winds) became very uncomfortable, however would have been torture on something like a 787 with its ultra narrow seats. The A380 Itself has more personal space than any other aircraft, much smoother too. The only other aircraft I will fly overnight or 10hr + is 777s with proper 9 abreast seating, not the re- hashed 10 abreast airlines are now using. As for 787s, only Japan Airlines has the proper 8 abreast seating that it was designed for.

    The A380 is great for airlines in two main areas: dealing with capacity during peak seasons, and offering more premium seats which generates higher revenue. For those two reasons, the aircraft will enjoy a limited role for some time, but the 777-9 will change the game by becoming the highest capacity twin engine airliner in history.

    • @vscorner9992
      @vscorner9992 2 месяца назад +3

      The 777-9 will always be just a longer 777. It will simply never compare to the comfort, quietness, and sheer capacity of the a380. The only reason why the A380 has a "limited" and somewhat comparable number of seats to the new 777-9, is because of the vastly superior 1st class options of the A380, and its luxurious amenities, like having a shower. Many business travelers, including those in the companies I worked for, will pay extra and choose dates and times specifically to fly on the A380 due to these features. Nobody will go out of their way to do this to fly on a 777, regardless of its size. For as long as it can be maintained, the A380 will always be a flagship for the airlines providing the best services on the market, while the 777 will only be a workhorse that will look to have as many passengers as possible. Assuming Boeing and its partners can get their act together and build it correctly, making it safe.

    • @stephanguitar9778
      @stephanguitar9778 2 месяца назад +1

      With ultra skinny seats in economy. A320s and 737s have better seats than 787s or 10 abreast seating 777s

    • @sainnt
      @sainnt 2 месяца назад

      @@stephanguitar9778It depends on the airline and what seats they select, but they're all thinner nowadays. Most seats are the same, whether installed in a narrowbody or a widebody.

    • @stephanguitar9778
      @stephanguitar9778 2 месяца назад

      @@sainnt No, Airlines have chosen to have an extra column of seat's in their 787s and 777s ie 787 was designed to have 8 abreast seating but only Japan Airlines has that, the rest have 9 abreast. 777s were all 9 abreast but now most are 10 abreast. This is pure misery on long flights. We swapped from a Singapore airlines A380 London to Singapore to a Singapore airlines 787, 2 hour flight to Bali, it had very tight seating, ie worse than most 737s. Emirates is the same, brilliant A380s but miserable 777s. Last year I flew on JALs 787 with 8 abreast seating and it was as good as the A380..

    • @sainnt
      @sainnt 2 месяца назад

      The 787 cannot have 10 abreast seating. I was talking about the A350 which can now be had with 10 abreast. French Bee A350 has 10 abreast I believe.
      It's true that older 777 had 9 abreast seating. I flew one a couple of years ago on Egyptair, but most 777-300ER comes with 10, and they're not uncomfortable.
      Like I said before, nothing can match the comfort of the A380 because of its width, but I've flown Emirates 777 in economy and it's quite comfortable. I've only flown Singapore Airlines in premium economy on the A350ULR, but that's a more comfortable seat that's 8 abreast, so I can't comment on their seat.
      I recently flew on Qatar Airways 787-9 in economy, and even though it's a slimline seat, it was still fairly comfortable due to the provided amenities.

    Etihad airways is the newest one to bring it back and I think Etihad will keep it going until 2035 at the latest. Etihad has plans to expand, so keeping the A380s until the 2030s might be best.

      A "Bloated Beast" that does not compromise on passenger comfort. Singapore still backs the A380, the reason the Hong Kong flights are cut down to 1 A380 flight and rest A350 are due to various reasons. But mostly because Singapore wants to use them in more premium, high density flights. Look at Emirates, they cut down some A380 flights but added them on more high density routes like Bangkok (which is now an all A380 flight for Emirates). Pretty sure Singapore is following the same strategy
