  • Global Airlines wants to exclusively fly with Airbus A380s and operate from London Gatwick to destinations around the world. Will it be able to succeed in an oversaturated market, or is the company simply too ambitious with its targets?

they have a point: if i had the choice london to NY between an A380 or a A321, I'm on the 380 lol

Me too...at the right price point. That 320/321 operator has more wiggle room on their fares.

Most people don’t really care about the aircraft (some prefer not to fly on Boeing right now), but only care about the cheapest flight they can find. I would personally prefer the A380 too, but most people probably don’t even know the difference.

As an A380 fan, I believe Global Airlines can accomplish the mission and get their Superjumbo into the sky with passengers onboard soon. Good Luck Global Airlines.

I hope they do so we could see more years of this majestic aircraft. The keyword here is “focus”: focus on one aircraft, focus on a few routes, focus on your costumers. Later a slow growth to reduce failure possibilities and new alliances with lowcost local carriers: if they fly to the US, maybe JetBlue. If they fly fly to Rio, maybe Latam or Azul. If they fly to Japan or Singapore, they have many options. In 10 years they even could open a leasing division to wet lease some A380s to some airlines that want it but they cannot afford owning a A380 just for seasonal routes.

Focusing on a specialist business model is very risky. I wish them all the best. It will be very difficult to succeed.

as long as they can have really high load factor consistently, like Emirates then it could work but if not then it's just gonna end up like what happened to Air Belgium for example.

I love the 380 it's a fantastic aircraft to fly in, I wish Global luck but things are moving very slowly, I registered an interest on their website when it was first announced that they were forming a new 380 exclusive airline, I've not had one update/newsletter from them.

Good luck to them. The word “global” was overused so heavily for a while that people dismissed anything called global as”globaloney.”

I would like to see Global succeed. One potential market for the A380 might be between London and Orlando. While Virgin and BA dominate the current market, there was a time when XL and Thomas Cook regularly brought thousands of people to Central Florida using the Sanford-Orlando Int'l Airport (SFB). While that remains a somewhat inconvenient option, the new Terminal 'C' at Orlando Int'l (MCO) is quite under-utilized. It also offers a station for Brightline rail service to South Florida. Add to that the anticipated 2025 opening of Universal Orlando's Epic Universe theme park, and there could just be enough business to create a profitable opportunity. A code-share agreement with jetBlue might also be a good idea.

even though i love the a380, i do not think global will survive in the long run, they do not even have a proper fleet of a380s and if they even to manage to get a few second hand a380s, maintenance costs combined with the costs of refurbishing decade old a380s is simply not going to be profitable, and at most they will have these a380s for a decade and then will have to switch to other aircraft anyways. London is one of the cities where there i enough traffic to fill up an a380 regularly but i still feel all of this will not be profitable.

The North Atlantic routes are the most over-served in the world. Yet start-ups like Global, Norwegian, Wow, and Norse seem to think there is plenty of room for them. In my opinion, it would be better to go after under-served routes and face less competition.

  • @estraume

Will cost per passenger be lower for a A380 (taking also fuel and slot costs at airports into consideration), than the 787 with Norse Atlantic Airways?

I truly believe in global airlines and they will make it happen and keep going with ambition and passion it just takes a bit of time but I believe they will do it and I’d say they will be much better then Norse airlines.

I think that Global Airlines believes that passengers traveling on a low cost airline will prefer the comfort of an A380 over most of the other types operating the route.
This is especially true because customers who fly on low cost airlines have probably never experienced an A380, and this can lead to great word of mouth and repeat customers.
With the media hype around the airline, mostly by the airline itself, I think it's a tactic to buy more time to ensure that the launch is flawless. I believe that the airline may enjoy initial success, but on paper it's hard to see how it will be sustainable long-term.
