Hi Friends! If you're watching this video, please leave a comment below! I love reading and replying to as many of your comments as possible! Today video features the incredibly talented Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL)!
@@Producelikeapro, yes Warren. Bauhaus is still one of my all time favourites. Daniel and David were not only great on bass and guitar. When they had to sing on "Burning from the inside", it took quite some time to recognise, that Peter Murphy missed almost all of the recording, because he was ill. Although Peter Murphy is one the greatest male singers alive, even if I do not like all of his later work. Speaking of 80's heroes. Is there a chance, that you maybe are going to interview Alan Wilder, when you're in Britain again?
That was a really, really good interview. I used to have a Roland system 700 modular synth - 6 modules and keyboard. Both of you gents..........- the reason that the same model Marshall amps' different sound referring to the "flavour" of the the character, is the result of the individual output transformer characteristic sound. As an electronics design eng/ guitar amp tech for almost 50 years, that's my experiential ranting/ wisdom/ experience...hahaha!
@@Producelikeapro i watch both of your guys' videos pretty religiously. i've learned alot from you two. you guys are both proper human beings. thanks for doing what you do and giving us smaller studio alchemists ;) the straight dope to tighten up our audio production. :D
I love seeing the Roland S-50 with the tablet attached - it does virtually nothing but no S-50 is complete without that little slice of 80's techno-cool! I can't remember the last time I used mine in a capacity other than "Hey, check this out..."
What a GREAT GUY!! He is SO good at describing and explaining everything, but without getting lost on tangents. What a great teacher he would make if he went into full time teaching. Or even multi-day seminars. Seems like a nice guy too… I hope. (Ask his assistants) Anyway, SUPER interesting tour and discussion. 😎👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow the whole video was good: when you guys nerded out on King Crimson Discipline. I knew I was in the right spot. I personally think Discipline is one of the best albums ever, and before this video I felt I was one of a select few who appreciated it. Perhaps I am, pretty good company guys, cheers!
Outstanding interview. I usually get impatient 10 minutes into a lot of interviews. You gad me the entire 94 minutes with both the content and energy. One of your best to date.
I know it's an older video, but seeing it for the first time today in middle of struggling through re-editing the timing on a cue for a film I'm scoring, and Tom's advice on "it's only a movie" was just what I needed to hear today. Cheers!
Still can't believe that this is the same guy who"s house and trance tracks I was listening back in 90s and 00s. Thanks for the video Warren. I am a huge fan of your channel.
Thank you Tom and Warren! So fun and comforting to hear you guys talking about everything and having fun! Gearing up in the wee small hours here to go do a challenging day. This helps me feel grounded about who I know am whatever a series of strangers might try to throw at me today. I have a secret. 😉❤️
I was thinking: Warren lives in LA, and Tom lives in LA too. How it would be great if Warren made an interview with Tom. And now I'm watching this. Whaaat??!
Is it wrong for Tom to give me gear envy? What a fantastic collection of synths (and other stuff). Just like your channel Warren, Tom gives a lot back to the RUclips musical community.
... like two kids in a candy store. This guy is completely in his stuff and loves with every fiber of his body what he does. It confirms once again: "...find a job that you like and you never need to work again..." great vid Warren and thanx for that!
What can I say? Possibly the best music chat I've seen on youtube (& I've seen a lot!) - ridiculous studio-tour, geeking-out on my favourite album ever (Crimson/Discipline) and then a natter about the brilliance of talent and human energy that music inspires in nearly all of us. I don't have many heroes but these guys are worming their way in there with their generosity in sharing their knowledge and time.
So much talent! So much gear! It's a beautiful video. I wonder if he has an omnichord, haha. Thank you so much. I'll be scoring films in my daydreams now~
Warren: thank you so much for everything you do and for putting out great content time and time again! This is (to me) one of your best interviews ever. Not only Junkie XL is a nice guy, but the way you conduct the interview is (as always) very professional and entertaining at the same time. I've been learning so much from your channel that i can safely say you're one of the best teachers and human beings that i know of. Thanks so much and i really wish you all the best!
When we were there, Tom let me play some of those synths and pushing one key was enough to feel like you were in a science fiction movie 😍 Too much fun!
Sharing a lot of the same history, I completely lost track of time watching this video in one go. Really enjoyed the conversation between favorite RUclipsrs!
Wow 2 BIG music "scuba diver" like you and Tom... just in 1 room! (and... watta room!!!). Every vowels and consonats and even the commas of this video are pure GOLD!
I’m always amazed by the quality of the designs from the 80’s. The engineers were way ahead of the curve. The equipment was built to a high standard and stands up even today. General studio equipment maintenance must be constantly ongoing in Tom’s studios.
Our instruments and the amount of it, are vessels for our creative mind to express itself, thats why we need many colours (or paintbrushes) to make a statement and to be excited every time we have many options (Stimulating creativity??)... Who wants to eat bread all day and every day??? Great interview Warren with a great guy!!! Many thanks!!!
This is such a great video. Watching two guys really nerding out and just being kids and remembering the good ol days. You never grow up being an artist. Just a great vibe.
Put the mic inside the bass drum and fix it down or make suspension before the front skin gets put on, feed the cable out the breathing hole, usually where the logo is, solder the plug back on, or even mount a xlr chassis, done this for many bands, only problem is the tuning must be spot on, not something many drummers know how to
Another reason I love Tom... he's offered a handshake and goes for the hug! Seriously, you both just seem like such amazing, wonderful, humble and happy people. The type of people that just being in the same room as them brings a smile to your face :)
Simply amazing, and reference to Cubase to control ,yeah my world! I’m on racks but nowhere near this,I wouldn’t lift off the floor, loved the depeche reference, big influence to most key players, ultravox were big users too,an excellent interview! Many thanks ,the rack took me back!
