She is very popular chalga-folk singer from roma origin in Bulgaria. People here are on edge about this one song, because a lot of people did not wanna chalga-singer to represent us that year. However, she sang it well, she did not wanna any back up dancers or ear monitors, because she never use them.
@@lindakristinekjrlibraten5759 The mentioning brands rule seems to have been loosened up in recent years. Jenifer Brening mentioned Twitter in her rap verse, and ofc Netta references Pikachu and Wonder Woman in 'Toy'.
The live version really elevated the song, amazing singer, she was in a tie for qualifying with Norway that year, but Norway qualified because they received more points from judges like 8 and 6 and had less of those, she needed 0 points to qualify, sadly she didn't. About the off part, I'm pretty sure that's how the song structure is, no backing vocals, no dancers, no earpiece, just amazing.
Sofi Marinova is a legend! The icon of Bulgaria! She is the Godess of Balkan! Such a well formed and strong voice! You can literally wake her up from her night sleep and she can sing! Never playback! Bravo Sofi! I love your music, your voice and your talent is unique! Well done ! Greets from Amsterdam
Wonderful song which I still listen to often. It mad me sad at the time that Bulgaria was on such a limited budget; they couldn't afford to send any backing singers/dancers. She carries it fantastically well though. She doesn't like or need an earpiece :P
Now this was a travesty of a non-qualification.....so original, of its time, and a real club bop Her vocal was great and had an ethnic quality that should have been rewarded with a place in the final.....at this time however, Bulgaria had real difficulties in qualifying...... oh how things have changed!!👍👍
She really doesn't use ear monitors. That can be vivdly seen on 1:20. And I'm not sure about the sounds you can hear at the very beginning. I don't see a back vocalist on the stage, but these sounds and her voice are on different frequencies. You know what I like most of all about this performance? Energy. She was alone on the stage, and not very much special effects were used, but she did give a show. The energetic of this woman is really incredible.
With or without inner monitors - she can sing like a beast!!! And she always performs live!!! Her voice is strong, powerful and way better than today's so called ''international stars''!!! She would've been a world-wide star if she wasn't born in Bulgaria!!! To my great regret, my country Bulgaria is very underestimated! I hope, that one day the world will open its eyes and ears to our wonderful artists! 👍😃❤
I'm from Bulgaria, and she is one the greatest singers on the balkans. Her abilities are nearly unlimited. This is the most close I have ever seen her singing to the mic. Her voice is so big in smaller environment she can ruin the sound system hahahah . She is amazing so no surprise she did it that way
you are absolutely right. She was advised to sing without the monitors by a friend and she is indeed one of the greatest naturally born talents in Bulgaria, with a gipsy background, born in a small village, started professional singing at age of 16.
Bulgaria tied with Norway in this semi but with the EBU rules for points, Norway qualified over Bulgaria. I think Sofia was VERY underrated and professional!
I absolutely love this song and was so disappointed it didn't qualify, but I can understand. The vocal was off in parts and this act probably needed dancers because the Azerbaijan stage was enormous. This is one of the songs from Eurovision 2012 that I still have on my phone today and still listen to.
@@JakesFaceReacts I'm a bit late on this conversation, but here are my 2 cents...she is just that amazing. I dislike her regular style of music, but truth being told- one has not lived before they have heard Sofi Marinova sing one of her songs and preferably live...it.is.sobering.
I could not find a good video quality example on youtube to share with you so you feel the power of her voice. However, I found another live performance of hers from 2016, with good video quality and again with NO ear piece. You get to see how much she is loved in Bulgaria too... ruclips.net/video/bqRk-jUEcVI/видео.html
This is an example for a "standard" Balkan-inspired Eurodance song from late 2000s. Bulgaria's entry is very similar to Inna's "Hot", a very popular Romanian singer whose aforementioned single went global. I remember being so sad Bulgaria didn't qualify back then... Memories! :))
Hey Jake :D Is Bulgaria 2011 in the list? Please add it if it's not! That's Poli Genova who also came 4th in 2016 with If Love Was a Crime! Unfortunately, she didn't qualify with Na Inat (her 2011 entry) Fun fact: she hosted the 2015 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria (and nailed it) ❤️

1:25 my favorite part 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 😂 😂 😂 This reminds me a lot of late 2009-early 2010s Romanian dance music (like Inna). Well, at least she enjoyed it! 😂😂😂
Omg same I remember the times when my mother would listen to that type of songs everyday and if anyone plays any of the ones she did I'm sure I'm still gonna remember the lyrics lol
Overall the performance was good, and don't forget she didn't use ear monitors. May be, she didn't qualify because she had strong opponents. It was the 2nd semi-final, and there were also Sweden, Serbia, Macedonia, Estonia, Ukraine, Norway... I think she wasn't better than any of those singers who went to the final. May be, only better than Turkey, but I'm not sure.
She chose not to have in ear monitors or backup dancers. It's such a shame she didn't qualify for the final since she got the exact same number of points as the lowest qualifier but lost in the tie-break result.
react to ESTONIA 2009 ! it's my favourite song from the whole esc history . Marinova is an amazing singer tho and she is famous through all the balkans because of her exceptional voice
This is actually the real Bulgaria. I know they had some pretty good entrances in the last couple of years but it was not the real representation of their music. I personally like it more when countries bring their own culture so this entrance (or Water from 2007) will beat any Beautiful Mess out there
Hey Jake!I want to know is Norway 2012 in your list.If no I hope you can add in because Bulgaria and Norway in 2012 semifinal 2 had same points (45) and after tiebreak (more countries voted, more 12 ,10,8 points)Bulgaria was 11th and Norway was 10th and qualified. After reaction of these both songs you would can say which song you will give ticket to final and which will you gave 1st place of semifinal-2 non-qualifiers.
The fact that this song came eleventh and literally had the exact same points as the one who came tenth (Norway). i saw that since norway received points from eleven countries and bulgaria received points from ten countries, norway went through
Yes, you're right! she doesn't have an earmonitor in her ear. she never studied singing. She does not know musical notes and cannot sing according to them. Her voice is... 😳 there are 5 octaves. 😀 she is a self-taught singer- she sings only by hearsay!
This is one of those songs that when I first heard it, I didn't like at all. But it really grows on you and Sofi is actually very sweet and so down-to-earth. Shame she didn't qualify for the final - especially considering she sang it without the in-ear pieces, as you said - but the staging was very bland for this as well. Needed a lot more than her strange dancing and odd fireworks in the background.
That intro man, insane thing Funny too 🤣, this type of music is Romania well-knwon in this industry, everyone knows Edward Maya, Inna, Alexandra Stan, Havana, etc. I like this entry, but unfortunately this dosen't qualify for final 😭
Well, Bulgaria, quite a "beautiful mess"... (I'm sorry) Really, it's just a mix of languages with really catchy beat and I'm actually glad that Norway qualified instead... Also fun fact: this song is the only Eurovision entry to feature a phrase in Azerbaijani language
OK, maybe something is wrong with me, but Bulgarian sounds like a mix of Russian and Greek, does't it? Also, liked the "Ya Habibi". Last thing: in 1:09 she lipsinks and a backing vocalist sings in the back hidden.
She sings in 10 different languages, the phrase I love you is sang in Bulgarian, Turkish, Serbo-croatian... And there is also some words from French and Arabic. Sorry for spamming your channel Jake, but I just found it and love it! I am a huge Eurovision fan.
nouanoua it’s called Bulgarian folklore vocals, Bulgaria this year had that type of singing in the background, the one Zhana was miming to, Bulgaria 2013 also had that apocalyptic sounding wailing too.
I feel like may be slightly off due to choosing to not use the in ear monitors. It’s very slight, but it’s a little off. I can’t believe having in ear monitors was optional.
Sorry but this is the worst thing ever!! Apart from the OK chorus everything else was of pitch and she obviously has voice and Bulgaria seemed to just sent her just for fun
I love how she just hopped on stage by herself, no earpiece, no dancers, just herself enjoying it. She refused the in-ear monitors
the beat is Inna rip-off though
explain
Sofi reacted to this on her Insta!
She doesn't have the ear "things" cuz she is one of the best singers in Bulgaria! Thanks God we have her! Love from Bulgaria!
ако си мангал-чалгар може
She is the only Eurovision artist that refused wearing ear monitors cuz she is just way too professional performer and this distracted her
The chorus was her saying "I love you" or similar phrases in different languages, which is super cool!
Is that you on the image?
