I just turned on my dads after not having been used for about 30 years! She worked for a while then a puff of smoke and a bad smell came out of the left side at the top. Hoping it’s a capacitor! 🙏
i still have 1 of these in full working condition its not about the machine with me is what i have on tape i have something on tape no1 in the world has but for years been trying to link up with some1 to get it put out
@@yongamusic You will love this deck, I have 2 and it’s the best sounding consumer grade deck I’ve ever heard. Including the Akai GX series, Pioneer RT series and those horrible Technics. I never did understand why people covet those Technics, poor design with the butterfly head stack.
@@marcusdolby1 That’s good to hear! I‘m slightly hesitant, though, because a fully revised MKII costs around €1.800,- and a cheaper one might need a lot of TLC. Maybe I should take it slow and wait for the right opportunity to arise.
@@yongamusic That could take awhile, but you never know with these old decks. That's why I shoot videos of the decks I sell. Fully restored ones go for about $3-5 grand. But the ones I sell are about $1,200-$1,500. I've gotten decks that work great, 3 weeks later Kaboom, filter caps blow, you just never know.
Hello , sir.. I have opportunity to buy revox b77 or pr99.. available are both 1/2 track as well as 1/4 track. Which one is better. I know that tape use is less in 1/4 track.. I do have 1/4 track rt 707 and akai 630d.. Does sound quality in 1/2 track is equal to ¹/4 track in 7.5 ips? Thanks
You need to bear in mind that tapes recorded on a 1/2 track machine will not be compatible with your 1/4 track machines. A 1/2 track machine will produce better quality but, unless you're putting your stuff out commercially, it isn't going to be significant enough to worry about. Your speakers and amplifier will have more impact on the output as will the correct setting up of the bias for modern tape. You also need to consider the wear on the tape heads. These machines will be about 30 years old and probably still have the original heads. You can get replacements but they are very expensive. The Mk II has the variable speed control but, if memory serves me correctly, this wasn't on the original model. You should get any deck checked out electrically too as it will probably require re-capping. Old capacitors could be dangerous after all this time. If all of this is OK then it is happy days.
@@ianz9916 thank you very much for info.. I have akai 630d and pioneer rt707.. Revox I am struggling because I would like to buy from some technicians who will change all capacitors and bring to original spec.. How does revox compare to technics 1500 etc which will be able to play 1/4 and well as 1/2 track.. thanks
also i use to fix these as a teen now i am age 48 and i have 1 left but i have something on tapes no1 in the world has i would love to share it with the world but i need the right person to link up with
hi! can i record a source with the varispeed on these unit? like find a tape speed i prefer using the varispeed rather than just the two 3.75 and 7.5ips?

It is, common problem. All Miniprint capacitors should be replaced as they are known to fail.
Yeah same thing happened to me. It's tha cap
Sounds awesome
Hello ... can I use your movie in the background for my audio megamixes? Do you agree?
Sure
Sounds great. I really want one of these. So, the original source was a normal CD, and the recording of the CD sounds better?
The best ever
Can you please tell me what song you are playing?
What album?
Thank you very much.
I can buy a high speed version of this machine, is it any good?
Larry Carlton “ Minute by Minute” The B77 is by my opinion the best commercial grade reel to reel ever made.

Thanks for the demo! I‘m about to pull the plug on one of these.
Why do you say „M-K“ instead of mark 2?
MK-II is how it’s spelled on the head cover. Kind of like IPS instead of inches per seconds.
@@marcusdolby1 Alright then. 😉

The sound quality is lower on a 1/4. You get half as much tape

What did you pay for it?
This one I bought for $400.00. It had several broken switches which I replaced and needed work on the power supply section.

I’ve never tried that with B77, so I don’t know the answer to that.
I'd spend it for one for sure
Get ready for the price well worth what they are asking for one
