Thanks for video! Maxamet is available in Para 3/ Paramilitary 2 G10 and Native 5 /Manix 2 Lightweight. It's a standard production steel and not a exclusive or sprint run. It's very expensive because of the added cost to machine the Maxamet for blade use.
The CPM-10V used on the REC PM2 is an analog of Carpenter PMA11 and Bohler K294 (K390 is close ). It is a very high end tool steel, But won't compare to Maxamet if sharpening and edge angles are the same. You got the king of production steel with this little gem. Enjoy

Just picked up a Knife Center exclusive Para 3 and I love it. My first one. It’s all blacked out with a DLC coated Cruwear blade. Even the liners are black. Such a great little model
When they first came out I waited and kept missing out when they came in stock. Finally ordered one today and cant wait for it to come.....

I got the para3 s45vn love it more and more,, it never leaves my side, absolutely a great edc, really sharp, tough and dependable.
Absolutely my favorite Spyderco/ Knife. I will get the maxamet version one day , just have not yet, but I do have the REC version so that will work for now.

Just paid 240 on blade HQ fully shipped next day air for the Maxamet Grey G10. I cant believe I spent this much on a knife, but the idea was that this knife will last me a lifetime. Definitely gonna order the pocket clip from lynch NW just to give it a personal touch.
One way to prevent any corrosion/patina is to coat the blade with Boeshield developed by Boeing to be used on internal engine components. Just be careful when you wipe it off not to cut yourself because these blades are crazy sharp.
Just got the same P3, and have a P2 inbound .. maxamet seems to be THE edge steel now, Im used to S110v and thought it was pretty good.

Hell yeah dude. Have a few PM2s and just picked up a used S30V Para 3 cheap to see which model I want to get in Maxamet.
It’s a crazy good steel and it blows me away on the Manix 2 LW, but I just don’t love the feel of the plastic chassis on that one.
Do you have any blade play with how free falling it is? Mine seems to have a little play unless I crank the pivot down pretty tight, like so tight I can't even shake it closed when disengaging the compression lock. I don't really mind since dropshuttyness isn't as important to me as no blade play. I'm just curious🤷♂️
Mine doesn’t have any noticeable play, I have to wiggle it pretty hard to feel any give, and I haven’t ever felt any play in it during use or even when fidgeting with it.
@@beardedgear for sure, thanks! I'm probably just being too nitpicky haha cause it takes a good amount of lateral force for me to get play, but it's still there
Good review. I didn’t want a para3 because I love my pm2. However I was able to get this grey g10 maxamet from spyderco’s factory seconds sale for $93 after shipping

My luck with my k390 pm2 was I dropped it one time in 2 days of ownership and now I have no tip.

How did you treat your blade to prevent corrosion? I'm picking one up soon and while I don't mind a little patina I'm very paranoid about moisture getting inside the knife and rusting the blade.
Edit: Sorry, just read your comment about wiping it on your shirt, that's super odd! Other people I've seen had corrosion issues in their first month using the same method.
Yeah mine is still going strong without any extra care 🤷🏼♂️
@@beardedgear Perhaps the chemistry is very marginally different batch to batch, since it can't be *exactly* the same.

Thanks for watching! I haven’t had any corrosion issues on the maxamet at all, and I’m not very careful with it, I use the knife hard and carry it a lot and all I’ve ever done to clean it is wipe it down with my shirt.

Yeah the Para3 ships Tip Up, the PM2 ships Tip Down.
The stonewashed Maxamet blade has the best action. Something to do with the smoothness of the stonewash

My para 3 is not satin. It’s tumbled.
Oh wow, the comment that the Para 3 is a scaled down Para 2 is describing it's worst feature. The point is minis suck. My smallest blade is a otf Infidel. Edc also a Recon 1 & SOCP. Would not carry any of their Para's. The military version is decent size but too pricey. my Buck 119 for under $50 new is way more sensible than a $240 Spiderco. No mini's,, bigger is always better.
