Why Cody Said Many Clones Question ORDER 66 Lately - Bad Batch Season 2

  • in the bad batch season 2 trailer we finally get to see Cody once again since his betrayal of obi-wan in revenge of the sith during order 66. Cody was talking with Crosshair and he was explaining how a lot of clones are questioning the order. To me this is something I always wondered as a kid when revenge of the sith came out, I Was 15 years old and I wondered if any clones felt bad for what they did to the jedi, or if any even didn’t follow orders. Now we really start to dive more into that with the bad batch and even with the clone wars season 7. I think it’s a huge worm hole to dive into and explore why some disobey, and why most obey. In Rex’s case, his attachment and love for Ahsoka bought her a few seconds before he pulled the trigger. However with Jesse, he never hesitated. Why the discrepancy? I believe some inhibitor chips either weren’t put in properly in the ones disobeying, or it wore off over time.
There’s also the question of, what happened to them in battle? For example when Crosshair had that explosion near his head, did that burn out the chip in his brain that forced him to execute order 66? Is he acting on free will? I personally think he just hates his brothers and has a different way of thinking about how the galaxy should be run. I think this is probably one of my biggest questions about the clones which I am excited to have answered. Why some disobey the order, or question it, while others follow it until the end of time. For example when the empire switched to regular enlistees from all over the galaxy, there were still clones getting very old in the ranks as storm troopers now. They were responsible for training the new humans and aliens that enlisted as storm troopers for the empire. Now, there is also the case where clones may not even see or hear order 66 be executed. Like Cut the clone from the first season of the bad batch who lived out on that farm and didn’t get any access to Palpatine’s Orders. Now when Crosshair replies and tells him that they are all traitors just like the jedi, cody gives him a side eye look like he’s starting to question things himself. As if he’s thinking, what if they’re not all traitors, what if we should be questioning the orders given to us. I believe the clones, while being programmed to follow orders blindly due to the chip and their training/cloning, are also able to see the vast difference in their relationship with the jedi, and some may even question why this discrepancy is taking place. Why were they once loyal and fought along side their jedi generals, only now to have killed them all and are ordered to do so due to the Jedi’s alleged betrayal.
Now you might ask what exactly did they betray?
Well, Palpatine made it very clear at the senate hearing after the JEdi attacked him that the attempt on his life was treason, and left him scarred and deformed. That the Jedi tried to spy on him and that had his protector not been there to save him, he’d be dead. He made the galaxy and the clones believe the Jedi were on a quest for power and control of the senates, and that they were going to take over the galaxy if not wiped out.
I think Cody’s relationship with Obi-Wan Kenobi perhaps may make him second guess things now that some time has passed. Cody to Obi-Wan was like Rex to Anakin almost. And if Rex paused ORder 66 for Ahsoka, I’m sure he would have done the same for Anakin. So I like to believe that Cody, while not as close to Kenobi as rex was to ahsoka or anakin, will eventually come around to at least questioning why so many clones are questioning the order, and this in turn will lead him to question his own beliefs and way of living through ORder 66.
As for Crosshair, I think he’ll continue to just hate his brothers and want to keep fighting alongside the Empire.
Thank you for watching today's video. I hope you have a great day, and I'll see you in the next one! May the force be with you, ALWAYS!

I always loved in RotS how one moment Cody hands Obi-Wan his lightsaber, and then a minute later tries to kill him. Long before we had any of the backstory on it elaborated, that was the strongest evidence that a switch was flipped when Palpatine gave the order. Cody was genuinely a friend to Obi-Wan and the Jedi, so it would make sense that he might be more resilient to the chip's effects as time goes on. It's such an interesting concept that SW writers can come back to again and again.

He was a always a stickler for rules and hierarchy. He would probably be aware that other clones question it, but I honestly hope we don't see a redemption arc for Cody or Crosshair. Sometimes even initially good people choose the wrong side and stick with it. It would be neat for Star Wars to tackle this reality.

It’d be tortuous

  • @snipadk4146
    @snipadk4146 Год назад +68

Warning in advance as this is a long message, but I have a different theory as to why Rex resisted his inhibitor chip for a bit when Order 66 commenced:
Although Rex had a close relationship with Ahsoka, and that could be a reason why he resisted a bit before firing at her, I believe that maybe the PRIMARY reason he resisted was because at that moment, when he hears Sidious say "Execute Order 66", he is psychologically and maybe for a brief moment emotionally stunned because he realizes that this moment is exactly what Fives was trying to warn him and Anakin about long ago. The reason I believe this is because when Sidious finishes giving Rex the order, Rex DROPS HIS HELMET instead of turning around, waiting a bit, putting his helmet on, and proceeding to execute Order 66. I believe the little detail of him dropping his helmet before the inhibitor chip takes full control over him kind of simulates him entering a state of shock the similarly to when people say their life flashes before their eyes when they are about to die. It is a moment where they are so stunned they cannot react/comprehend what is actually happening for a brief moment. I feel like this is something that flew completely under the radar to a lot of people because I haven't really heard anyone bring it up or mention it. The argument that Rex resisted the chip because he had a close relationship to Ahsoka can be made; however, I feel like the same thing could've & should've happened to other clones, when order 66 was first given to them, but that didn't happen. An example I can give is Cody himself, I would say Cody did have a close relationship similar to the one Rex had for Anakin & Ahsoka. They had a relationship of upmost respect for one another and would give their lives for each other. You could make the argument that Rex and Ahsoka had a closer relationship than Cody and Obi-Wan did, but you can also argue that Cody spent more time with Obi-Wan than Rex did with Ahsoka, especially after she left the Jedi order, thus making Cody and Obi-Wan's relationship closer in a way. However, in the end, Cody didn't hesitate to fire at Obi-wan, and I feel like Rex being in account of Fives's tragic demise IS what primarily caused him to resist the inhibitor chip for the little while that he did. The evidence is in his demeanor: after he hears the order, he freezes a bit, drops his helmet almost in a way of disbelief, as if for a moment he's subconsciously devastated, and feels possible self disappointment (you can come to this conclusion by his hand motion when he drops his helmet; it's almost a similar hand motion to when people accept defeat or hopelessness in something before falling to their knees). He then turns to Ahsoka and when he aims at her his hands are , and you can is as if he knows he is about to do something he knows is wrong and can't control himself. Then he says "Find him... find him... Fives... find him.." and then proceeds to fire after he mentally cannot take it anymore and can no longer resist the inhibitor chip. The biggest takeaway from this is , and at this point Rex's emotions are unraveling and spiraling as order 66 is happening. During the time, it's almost like Rex experienced a separate, distant thought where he maybe wants to "find Fives" to apologize for not believing in him/taking him seriously back when he first tried to warn Rex and Anakin.
This is just something I've always thought about back when season 7 first came out, but at the end of the day it's just a theory as it is not clearly explained why Rex resisted the inhibitor chip.

    1. With Crosshair, I agree that his already strong views and clarity of vision are a major driver of his personality, but when the chip activated it dovetailed with those traits. Also, it's important to keep in mind that his chip activated immediately after Order 66, with Wrecker's chip being the next chip that activated only after repeated and significant head trauma. Also, the Kaminoans were able to augment Crosshair's chip's effects on the clones when it came to loyalty and following orders. A potential story arc for Crosshair is that he continues to receive the treatments, however, diminishing returns become a factor as well as increasing brain damage that will ultimately lead to his premature death.
    2. As for the rest of the clones, we look again to Wrecker when his chip activated, saying that any clone in violation of Order 66 was to be terminated. This suggests a failsafe mechanism; the Kaminoans and Sidious must have realized there was only a given percentage of clones that would follow Order 66 without question, but there were going to be failures. So they hedged their bets, and it was easy, since an overwhelming majority would follow orders. At the same time, though, the effect would not be equal among the clones, nor would it be permanent which is why they implemented project War Mantle so quickly.

From Cody’s point of view the empire is what he serves and after letting his inhibitor chip take over without any resistance his mind will be fully committed to the empire. Look at Wrecker in the Bad Batch, when Rex tries to have all their chips removed and the chip actually takes over Wrecker’s mind. Wrecker is a defective soldier who has no real loyalty to the empire as it is not the republic.

In the beginning and so on he definitely served them without hesitation. Then, when the chip got weaker, or what the reason is, there is one as we see, he questions everything like Howzer did. He is still Cody, with his memories and all, he is just immensely blinded. So when that happens, of course he won't show loyalty to something he discovers as actually bad, I'm very excited for that. I like to think the clones accelerated aging had an effect. Maybe clones produced after the first battle of geonosis were more likely to execute the order because they were essentially fresh out the box compared to clones produced prior to the battle. And maybe as they got older, the neurons in their brain or however the chip functioned slowed down to would fire irregularly and that’s why some clones questioned/resisted the order

I have a theory, the chip had a different reualt on dome clones who were more free spirited like Rex and Greggor than those who were more by the books like wolf and Cody. I think the clones who were more by the books the chip actually and literally burned part of itself and when removed it left something like a burn marker into the clones brains to make the clones brains somewhat more complimentary even if the chip was removed as we see it wolf in rebels unlike other clones like Rex, Gregor, and maybe even howzard. So when crosshairs chip was removed after it had been a while and he still was obedient to the empire even when it was removed because one of two reasons either it burned itself into his brain when his chip was turned up and increased and it left its burn mark that way or when he was literally burned by the venator class star destroyer and it left its burn in a more physical way when it was removed from his head.
Any way its just a theory but I think it's pretty cool.

I think it's a matter of 3 things... Head Injuries, leading to the chip activating pre-maturely, or then turning the chip off or weakening it enough to be overridden by the person. It could be sheer force of will, allowing someone's strong mind to fight it, as we could see with Captain Rex. Or, lastly, it could even be natural degradation because of the speed-aging of the clones...
All 3, which existed in Rex, and likely exist in Cody, could exist in 1 form or all forms in many, many other clones. This is why so many are able to at least "question." The act. It didn't say all are "AGAINST" the order, but they are at least "questioning" it, which hints at partial memory recovery or self-control being recovered by the clones, allowing their free-thinking to come back.
This is how clones could possibly be fighting the programming

Hi, been a fan for more than a 3 yrs, Vader is amazing, had an idea but not sure how to ask for feedback ,,,,,
Though this different idea is maybe off kilter not sure if what is follows is maybe not how you do things, is there a forum I should relay my following idea but asking for your feedback.
    My thoughts are as follows:
-if we got a Tomora Motisan or someone like this (I think that's how you spell his name) where a live action Rex and Commader Cody team up, not knowing where the other stands with the new empire, has to struggle with dealing with individual struggles, with the world changing, and having to work together to survive without the world of the jedi, after the fall. This would be the struggles between the fall of Order-66 and the rise of the New Galactic Empire. Is this struggle something new or common or something that the book of Boba has covered thus far, good enoungh?
What do you think, could it be a sample show like Andor?
Do you have any ideas on what we had seen in Kenowbi where we saw a clone trooper asking for credits, was it Rex?
    Still not sure.
If you covered it, my apologies, must have missed that session you posted.
PS. Just new in devopolopment and gaming design in and interested 3rd person, I have ALL the assets from Star Wars: Uprising. Did you play this?
I'd like to convert this to PS3....err, mount it to PS3 using Unreal Engigine 5.1. It can be done.
There are multiple ways to convert an playable game to a playable version to many platforms/generations from platforms to mobile devices....
Original from Unity engine to Unreal 5.1
I'd request not to advertise this. While this won't be on STEAM or any other shared outlet. This is purely for fun.
I'll keep you posted. There be a free demo......

Chances are, Crosshair still has his Inhibitor Chip and it's still activate. But it's no longer set on the same frequency that Tarkin and Nala Se set it on. The second-degree burn that Crosshair sustained on Bracca caused damages to the chip, and reverting it back to it's original frequency when Order 66 was activated. You can see that by the how he was acting towards his brothers before and after the burn.

I definitely think it would have a lot to do with their relationship and understanding of the Jedi. I could believe that some would hesitate, but most would not, even if they're close to their Jedi-in-charge.
I can see Cody feeling awful about "killing" Kenobi after the Order wore off because of how much he liked him, but not hesitating because he knew that Kenobi was very much an obedient to a fault Jedi. Therefore, if the Jedi had failed or betrayed the Republic, even a friend like Kenobi would have to go. I could see him swinging in one direction or the other; either questioning the Order and regretting it, or feeling bad about it but still believing it was the right thing to do.
Rex, on the other hand, had a lot of reasons to hesitate with Ahsoka. She was not only close, but wasn't technically a Jedi anymore. Even the other clones on the bridge with him and Ahsoka seemed to hesitate for a second. Since they weren't close friends with her, it's probably only on the basis that she wasn't a Jedi. It was only for a half second or so, but she was working for the Jedi, had been a Jedi, and might have defended them, so if they did hesitate, it wouldn't have been more than a second. The only thing that saved her was her friendship with Rex; which likely wouldn't have been enough to save her if she was still a loyal Jedi.
Then we have the majority of Jedi with the attitude of Mundi towards the clones. I imagine that his clones, and the ones under Jedi like him, would have felt nothing about Order 66 even long after its effects wore off. A few would have relished in it, if their Jedi Generals were particularly harsh, incompetent or callous.
The ones I can see questioning it the most would've been ones working for the likes of Plo Koon. Or ones that killed non Jedi just to get at the Jedi or because they worked for them, like in the maintenance department or whatever.
