Thanks for the video. 28 yeasrs ago I worked aqs a deckhand on a Salmon Troller out of Sitka. The captain taught me a method of bleeding salmon that works significantly better than cutting one of the gills. In the back of the roof of the mouth all the gills converge in a tight bundle of blood vessels. Enter through the mouth with a sharp knife while holding the fish by the lower jaw and make a horizontal cut through all these gill connections. The salmon will immediately bleed profusely. It will bleed more completely if you keep the heart pumping by immediately placing the fish in the water on a stringer. If seals are a potential threat use the wash down hose to spray water over the gills for several minutes. The water gives the salmon oxygen to keep the heart pumping.

DUDE! Someone gifted me a gutted, head off tail off, lake salmon (western Montana, Thompson chain / lakes just east of Libby). It is very much like a trout and I wanted to find out how to filet it to cook. Uh, the key component to being able to filet a fish, like you, is not the fish, it's the boning knife you are using. Dang. Of course I don't have that kind of knife, in my lil RV, dang it! Can you post a link to it? Thanks! I love fisherman cuz you catch and I will cook!

We just caught some silvers this last weekend and it was mine and my husband's first time filleting salmon. I had a female and once I made the shallow slit in her stomach cavity, all these worms came spilling out. I'm positive they were worms! They had those pointy ends to them. Everyone said they don't think they were, but I was positive they were. I cleaned it up and the meat was fine since it was just in the stomach cavity. Have you ever seen anything similar? Am I tripping? 😆😆

This is the third straight salmon I have completely mutilated, because I can’t find a single explanation on youTube that properly explains how to do this. I always have to start from a different place because in all the youtube vid the fish heads are still on, and the ones I buy are off. Then they always just say, “run your knife down the backdown” as if that is just simple and easy, and i am supposed to just magically know where to cut? I Do try to cut down the back bone, and this where i mutilate my fish every time. I only get a tiny bit of fish. The rest is on the bone. I wish there was a better explanation of this somewhere, but all these videos say the same thing I'm just gonna throw the whole mess in the oven now, and figure out what to do after its cooked

nice fillets, however never rinse salmon as it milks the flesh. Also once you fillet your salmon, your going to want to bag and seal it very soon as the flesh is exposed and will lose quality fast if iced and put back in a cooler.
