SBF for me, but I admit I’m a Ford guy at heart. I also love the LS, and the only performance engine I currently own is a 408 LS. It’s hard to argue with the LS being the cheapest and easiest to build. But I think they are equally reliable when built to the same level. I think the trouble you have had with SBFs is they were likely built right to begin with or you had an unusual problem that wasn’t the SBF’s fault, like the converter charge pressure killing the thrust bearing on the bad Apple. That wasn’t the engines fault.

Ford guy here, price per HP the LS wins hands down. But at the power levels you’re talking there really isn’t a damn thing left stock on them so…does it really matter. I have a 351w in my Capri and going LQ9 solely for the reliability and HP per dollar. My pockets aren’t deep and I want to make her move out. Everyone has their preference, used to always defend the SBF and I’ve outran a lot of LS cars I shouldn’t have with my baby 306 sn95….but to me anymore if it’s cool and makes good power I could GAF less if there’s a blue oval or bowtie on it. I like Horse Power end of story. Keep up the good content and I’ll be in for Brown Sugar.

As a Ford guy, LS, cost available, the aftermarket parts are cheaper for LS. A mild build with Aluminum heads 351w $4K, LS pull out 6.0, $1,500. For that reason LS is better.

Sbf as I am a big Ford guy, but the Windsor was designed in 1961. It wasn’t until 1997 that the Ls was introduced and it copied many design aspects of the sbf. The Ls has features that didn’t exist when the sbf was made. Personally the comparison would be sbf vs sbc in which case the sbf is far superior. Considering the situation is 1960’s vs the 2000’s one would think the newer engine would be superior, but here this video is comparing old to new and yet the old still holds its own against the new kid on the block

LS is better for the average weekend mechanic that's on a budget. Also, parts availability is very, very, important. Getting the car fixed by someone else seems to be better with the LS because it is less complicated with more common parts. I love the SBF because it's tough, reliable, and creates a lot of power but parts that are easier to get is better in the long run. Thanks!!!

Cost can be an issue with a mod/coyote and sbf but in the end if u have the pockets and patience its worth it imo. The only thing i dont agree with Jon saying is that the mod motor and yote's dont sound good. I disagree because ive had a mod motor and the guys in my crew run all yote's (a couple sbf's and im buiding a 351w myself) and they sound great. It is a preference tho with sound so everyone is different..no biggie. Im a mustang guy so im biased altho i have had a couple sbc's in my earlier builds. Shout out to Chris and Matt (and you Shannon) for the sbf side of things. This is a great channel to get content on both which is why ive been watching for quite some time now. As long as im learning im open to LS stuff but on track day and when its time to gamble im a ford/mustang guy period 🐎💪🏽

Sbf is limited on bore space and deck height, that's the main limiting factor why the sbf will not make as much pwr as the LS with unlimited funds.

10.2 DH and 4.150 bore are about the max on a sbf, both have tremendous head potential. But that 0.020" short on the bore spacing is the one limiting factor that causes sbf to fall short.

Yep, coyotes don’t sound good… not awful engine’s like the 2 valve mod motor (although 2 valves do sound great). Disclaimer: I have a 2 valve lol but a sbf swap is in the near future….
