Agent 3 had years of experience meanwhile, if we played both of the games, we would have more. Agent 3 has the newest special's, she can dodge roll, and squid jump back to the UFO, the players can't do that because of the way that the game settled for them. Agent 4 is most likely younger than 3 but we don't know for sure. How many years were going on in the game than in real life? Agent 4 could've trained before going to the square. We don't know it because the game didn't give any hints at the moment. They fought against Callie and DJ with the help of Marie and Sheldon. We can't defeat 4 or 8 because, we didn't fight em yet. Agent 4 is more flexible than 3, maybe, but still. Agent 4 won on team chaos with Pearl and Callie, meanwhile, 8 and 3 were on team order which...Why?? They decided order for the world and had lost during that Splatfest. How do we know Agent 4 hasn't played more battles before? Hm? We are the players. We beat everything we see as a enemy and that mostly goes for all of them. Agent 8 saved the world with 80 levels to complete while fighting 3 and tartar. Inner Agent 3 was a memory of Agent 8 fighting them back in the day. If you are really good at the game then, Agent 3 shouldn't be hard to beat meanwhile, a lot of people can't beat them because the level of difficulty. Agent 8's memory was wiped away for some unknown reason. How do we know they still have the memory to weld a weapon while the rest are gone? The answer is left unknown. After Agent 8 goes to Inkopolis, they set out on a new life. They go back to visit Cap and fight agent 3. Of course, this is all of the players decisions in the game. ( This may not be true but I'll figure it out.) It was the hardest out of all of the single player campaign mode but, it helped the player do better from all of them together. Everything is up to the player. The choices you make in this game doesn't matter. It will always have the same ending. You are them all, you control them all, they lie in the hands of you.

Agent 8 would be the winner here. It just makes sense. For this scenario of my own speculation, let's just give each agent the weapons they had for their campaigns. Four wouldn't last long. He/She may have joined up with the Squidbeak Splatoon, and taken out Octavio and Brainwashed Callie, but they had help from Marie to take out Callie and stop her from throwing bombs in the end, and they had Sheldon as their weapons supplier. Both of them ultimately made Four's campaign easier, especially against the Octobosses. Three would be a close second. They've beaten the Octoweapons, and Octavio himself, ON THEIR OWN, WITH JUST ONE WEAPON. They've also been a part of the Splatoon a lot longer than Four and Eight, with much more experience than Four. Eight however, would have to be the victor. No matter what weapon you give them, they have this down pat. Yes, they may be amnesiac, but soldier training is drilled into you. Even amnesia can't take away instinct. Using the battlefield to their advantage, she could counter any of Four's loaned arsenal, including her melee and charge weapons(Inkbrush, Roller, Charger, Splatling). Agent Three Might have been under Tartar's control, but they weren't directly taken over by him. How would he have stuck to them, been shot off, and gotten back to his partially-busted box in time to make the statue rise? Agent Three had curling bombs, a deep understanding of their own weapon, and a removed limiter which allowed them to use several different special attacks indefinitely, such as the Splashdown, the Sting Ray, the Baller, and the Curling Bomb Launcher, and Eight still wiped the floor with her. I believe Eight would have won this battle if it ever happened.
If the inklings actually talked, Agent 3 could utilize psychological warfare against Agent 8. The sanitized octarians and octolings used to actually be a part of the octarian army. Their life signs just ceased to function, and were effectively brainwashed. Agent 3 had spent their time collecting what information they could on the Kamabo Corporation. It's likely they could have figured out what happened to make the sanitized octarians. The sanitizing brainwashed them and destroyed their free will, and Tartar used them to attack Agent 8 after making sure that whatever he did to them would give him complete control over them. If Agent 3 used the fact that Agent 8 was essentially mowing down their own kin without even knowing about it against them, they could capitalize on whatever emotion possessed Agent 8 at the time, be it rage or despair.

Now that we have Splatoon 3, it would be interesting to see this comparison again. I think the Captain (formerly agent 3) would still be a top competitor as there still active & likely training to stay top dog. New Agent 3 is like a student to the captain & probably needs to train more to surpass the master. To my knowledge, both protagonist from Splatoon 2 (agents 4 & 8) don't return so we dunno if they got any stronger since there last game but I'd imagine agent 8 is still likely the Captains hardest competition in a fight despite likely suffering from PTSD every time they see an old style phone or a blender. It would be interesting to find out what happened to agents 4 & 8 over the gap between the 2 games.
I think agent 3 would win. In splatoon looks like the octarian training is not that good, because agent 3 and agent 4 defeated, alone, lots of octolings, if you see it this way, the talent of agent 3 is enough to defeat an octarian, maybe agent 8 received more experience in the deep sea metro but the octarian training doesn’t give a lot of experience to agent 8
Advantages: 3. Grew past the special limiter. 4. Upgraded gear is superior. 8. Completed the trials in the metro which include harder bosses than 4 fought and with inferior gear. New 3. Has Little Buddy (distraction and attack partner) 4 has the best gear, but her lack of skill without this gear shows her in 4th place. Neo 3 has Little Buddy and survived After Alterna. A gauntlet of consecutive tests and against 28 octolings at once. Her feats land her in 3rd. 2nd place is 8. Her skill is high enough to beat super bosses with inferior gear, but she aims to surpass her own demons. She still has limits. 1st place is captain 3, who has surpassed her limits in octo expansion and risen to the rank of leader. Her only weaknesses are her occasional recklessness and her poor hygiene.
Some more confusing factors: There is not a single piece of canon splatoon media that depicts Agent 3 riding rails, so if the agents battled in Railway Chillin', then Agent 4's chances of winning increase. Agent 8 and Agent 4 have more diverse weapon experience, but, Agent 3 has more maneuverability. Splatoon is just too b a l a n c e d
Bit late, but I'd say Agent 4 Agent 3 may have years of experiences, but only uses one weapon. Which may be a good thing ,since they should know it as good as themselves, but if they would've gotten a new weapon they'd would have to learn everything again. Meanwhile Agent 4 had never one main weapon, showing they learned a lot of differences weapon classes Now onto agent 8 which would be the a bigger treat, they are an octo soldier after all and had to use their, like 4, different weapons for the tests. Now why would I say 4? We know they are pretty athletic living in inkopolis and being active in turf war. Which shows they might have pretty good strategic thinking. They also joined the other agents pretty late but still before 8, and let's be honest most of splatoon's 2 bosses are the ones of . That further more proves they had simulare enemys as 3, showing they are almost equal as good, but they fought dj octavio WITH callie on his side and won, meanwhile agent 3 just won against octavio with callie. Also 4 didn't have capt'n cuttlefish as their leader, they only had Marie which (I suppose) didn't teach them as good as, a captain, but they still won against a stronger octavio! Now I lost my point with agent 8, they are an octo soldier with the knowledge of different weapon classes, but still just a soldier not an elite one, hinting at them being strong but not extremely. Now if we would take that with 8 and 4, 8 would win because of their experience or would they? Agent 3 fought 8 ending in a draw (beginning of octo expansion) and I just proved why 4 is superior over 3 and since 3 and 8 are equal, 4 would come on top. Yeah 8 fought stronger octo bosses, but never an octavio with an inkling on his side. All in all 8 and 4 would come pretty close, but I'd say 4 would win because they are just more athletic and don't just focus on their weapon usage like the octo soldiers and 3.
I'd say it's up to you. The splatoon agents can be whatever you decide they are. For me, Agent 4 is my favorite, so of course she's (my 4 is a girl) gonna come out on top.

I'd say 8. They fought the mighty 3 2 times during the octo expansion. If they managed to splat the "pillar" or best agent of the squidbeak splatoon twice, I think it's a clear win in my book
For anyone bringing up 8 beating 3, the first time she’s hijacked, so that’s more 8 beatong Tar Tar if anything. And the second is a memory 8 gets OBLITERATED on. It’s comparable to what Galacta Knight does in Kirby games. 8 has bigger achievements, but if IA3 showed me anything, she’s way, WAY above 8 when it comes to combat.
The time gap between Splatoon 1 and 2 is 2 years. So by the Octo Expansion, Agent 3 would be about 16-17, not 19. We also don't know is Marie was referring to Agent 3 NOW or Agent 3 Two Years Ago. So that would make them either 16 or 18.
Yes, in 2017 when splatoon 2 was released Agent 3 would be 16. But as the time in splatoon moves at the same speed as us, as shown in the Squid vs Octopus splatfest which was to celebrate splatoon 2's 1 year anniversary when Pearl and Marina reminisce about how they have been working for inkopolis news for a year. Splatoon 2 came out in 2017 and the squid vs octopus happened in 2018 and since characters in universe in 2018 acknowledge that a year has past means that time in the splatoon universe does in fact keep moving forward. So by 2020 Agent 3 would be 19.

Plus Agent 8 defeated Inner Agent 3 as well meaning Agent 8 no doubt is so far the strongest Agent, but I am curious if we’ll see Agent 7 in the future
I wouldn’t count Inner Agent 3 into the judgement for 8 because that was the “inner hero,” which implies this didn’t really happen in an external event. The fight against Inner Agent 3 is optional anyway so we have a timeline where it did happen and didn’t happen. Agent 3 is the oldest with the most experience against low level Octarians all the way up to high level Octolings, and continues the work for x amount of years. Agent 4 would be least likely to win due to the easy difficulty in the story mode and probably won’t be getting much attention. Hopefully Splatoon 3’s DLC can offset this a bit. Agent 8 has beaten the TarTar out of Agent 3 to remove the possession fluids off of Agent 3. Furthermore, 8 has beaten hundreds of sanitized creatures while making it to the surface and even saved inkpolis from uncertain doom with Off the Hook’s help. If Inner Agent 3 was canon to the plot line, I’d say 3 would win due to the ability to dodge without dualies, change specials at will, and the nightmarish amount of auto bombs used. If I.A.3. wasn’t canon, then it’d be 8 due to the challenges 8 had to deal with. 8 would be the most well rounded of the group due to how diverse all the challenges are and even taking down the bosses in sanitized form, which has proven stronger than Agent 4’s mess of bosses. If you read through this, you’re either bored and have a lot of time or a legend.

Three would win, they’re the most experienced and judging by the way they play in Octo Expansion, I’d imagine 3 as a no-nonsense badass while 4 is more fun but gets their mission done. Agent 8, though, I’d imagine as someone naive. Edit: checked out some of Marie’s dialogue, she says: “You remind me of Agent 3. If Agent 3 was two years older and practiced basic hygiene.” The hygiene part, not important, but the other bit proves that in terms of age, 3 is younger. I’d imagine 4 being like the fun older brother to 3, whereas Three is the younger brother who is dead inside 99 percent of the time.
True. However, Octoling Soldier training sticks in your muscles. Muscle memory is something that's extremely hard to get rid of, especially after years of the same old thing. Agent 8 may have lost her memories, but the combat training is engraved in her body.
i see a bunch of people shitting on 4 for being inexperienced and getting help during the campaign, but i think its important to note that octavio had 2 whole years to improve his army and his weapons, and lets not gloss over the fact that sheldon forcing weapons on you isnt exactly an aid, 4 had to master 9 whole weapons. NOW FOR THE STUPID NINTENDO SHIT Nintendo just decided to give the fuck up when it comes to the splatoon timeline, so it turns out now that splatoon 3 takes place around a year and a half after splat 2, changing the total amount of years that 3 has been in the squidbeak to around 3 ½ years as of now. another thing to point point out is that octo expansion happened at the same time as the splat 2 campaign, and agent three was out with captain well before splat 2s campaign, so theres no chance they fought the octo bosses. now, some people keep pointing out that 8 has a greater arsenal than 4, and while that may be true, 8s thing is more that they can learn the basics of any weapon no issue, but mastering them isnt their thing, imagine having to master more than like 30 weapons. im not saying that 4 would necessarily win, im saying that 4 has a higher chance than people realize and that people still dont realize that agent 4 obviously has superior hygiene over the others
I think either Agent 8 or Agent 3. Agent 3 has had 5 years of training (I think that’s what you said?) and defeated DJ. Octavio herself (but he escaped from that snow globe and did some more s-). She had to go to many sectors to defeat enemies, too. But I think Agent 8 would win because of the MANY sectors she was pressured to go into. She defeated sanitized versions of enemies and sanitized bosses. And she defeated Agent 3 once AND if you complete all the levels in the Octo expansion, you get to fight inner agent 3. Now let me tell you, inner agent 3 is HARD to defeat, honey. And like you said, she had training as an octoling. But, it remains unknown with who will win, big chance it could be Agent 8, but Agent 3 might win, but who knows?
I think agent 8 would win because not only did he/she defeat 80 levels of madness, they also defeated agent 3 (one of the most experienced agents) and in sanitized form who had the special limit removed. With all that being said, agent 8 took on challenges no other agent has ever seen before, making them the best out of the three. BUT, this may sound kinda crazy, but I think there still is a chance that agent *4* has an advantage over agent three. You see, agent 3 defeated DJ Octavio, but agent 4 defeated DJ Octavio AND Callie who is probably the most experienced agent because she is agent 1. And, agent 4 fought bosses way harder than the ones agent 3 fought. For example: giant fish comes out of a bowl, goes into ink, tries to eat you, you break its teeth, get out, it comes to surface, break some more teeth, chuck a bomb in, boom. Tentacle comes out, you ink it up, rinse and repeat 2 more times. Each time though it gets better teeth. While over in Octo canyon, agent 4 is fighting a flying shower shooting ink lasers at you through walls. See? But in all, I think agent 8 would win.
Octavio only had much less time to prepare for Splatoon 2, so 4 would be last. Agent 3 had a lot of training, but 8 still beat agent 3, both hypnotized and inner. 8 would either tie or win.
I don't think it's as close as you are making it seem. While yes, 8 did beat inner agent 3, if you look at the ratio for how many times the player has died before they beat inner agent 3 for 50 people you would see that 3 splatted 8 way more often than 8 did 3. Even then you're not really fighting agent 3, because it's just a reskin of a slightly buffed octoling AI with special weapons. After that there are still a lot of variables that could easily change the outcome, so 8 could still very well win
My ranking would be (counting Splatoon 1 iterations): Splatoon 1 Agent 8 < Splatoon 1 Agent 3 < Agent 4 < Splatoon 2 Agent 3 < Splatoon 2 Agent 8 We know Agent 8 was around for the Calamari Inkantation and that they were a soldier before defecting. Considering how easily Agent 3 was able to defeat octolings, it's safe to assume that in Splatoon 1, Eight was the weakest. I would put Agent 4 above Splatoon 1 Agent 3 because the levels became more difficult in Splatoon 2. Not only does Four have to go through these tougher levels, they also have the experience of multiple weapons Sheldon gives them. Now, if the agents' present day iterations fought, then Four would easily lose because they are less experienced than the other two. Splatoon 2 Agent 3 has become a lot more experienced than in Splatoon 1, with their skills on par with Agent 8. Now, why would I place Agent 8 above Agent 3? It's because the tests Agent 8 had to undergo were brutal. Seeing as they were able to go through however-many tests and escape the metro afterwards, they've clearly had a lot of experience. They can also use almost any weapon thrown at them thanks to these tests, while Agent 3 can only use a Hero Shot. And since Agent 8 was able to beat Agent 3, although they were controlled at the time, once, I think they could beat them a second time. (Inner Agent 3 is heavily implied to be a memory, or at least occurring in Eight's head, so I'm not going to factor that into the ranking.)
I personally think agent 8 would win because they were able to defeat inner agent 3 which is a really strong version of agent 3 not to mention all the stations they beated
This isn’t my theory I found this somewhere else but someone said agent 3 sanitized is partially sanitized so they can hold back but in inner agent 3 they still thought 8 was evil
I'm placing my bets on agent 8 because she beat the sanitized octarians, had experience in the octoling army, since octolings are forced to join at a young age and the sanitized version of agent 3, which from all the videos I've watched, is the HARDEST boss in all of Splatoon. I'd say agent 8 would win.
While I agree with 4 having the least experience out of the three, I would say they have the most skill when it comes to the weapons. 4 has access to 9 different Hero Weapons and has displayed at minimum proficiency with all of them. 3 has never been shown using anything other than their Hero Shooter and 8, while also displaying proficiency with the weapons, has never been forced to use them to the same extent as 4. Going off of experience alone then 3 wins, but if 4 and 8 have their full arsenals then I feel 3 would get overwhelmed by 4's Hero weapons and 8's Metro Gear. 4 also has access to a modded Rainmaker that lacks a timer meaning they basically have an infinite Special which the others only can only get from canned Specials. I still feel that 4 can lose due to lack of experience fighting against foes with similar skill levels, but their gear helps keep them in the fight, even just a couple extra minutes

In splatoon 1 agent 3 is at least 14. Splatoon 2 plays 2 years after Splatoon 1. And since Marie says that Agent 4 reminds her of Agent 3 but if they would be 2 years older, Agent 4 must be at least 16 yeasts old
Ima have to go with agent 8 as they beat agent 3 when they were semi sanitized and beat them during the inner agent 3 fight which is technically a flash back but still.
There was a comment that said all of this and I would give credit to it but I lost it. Agent 8 would beat them all because as far as we know, Marina, Pearl, Callie, and Marie haven’t done as much fighting and Captain Cuttlefish is to old to fight anymore. And agent 8 already beat Agent 3- twice - and 4 just doesn’t have as much experience in my opinion. Btw whoever gave me this idea thx!
I feel like the remark that agent 3 most likely didn’t beat the octobosses so agent 4 is better in that regard isn’t fair. The only reason agent 3 didn’t beat the octobosses is because he never had to face them. Just like how 4 never had to face the octoweapons. While I have no doubt that 4 could take out the octoweapons, I feel like if 3 was given the chance to fight the octobosses he wouldn’t have much trouble. The final verdict I can completely agree with though. 8 would mop the floor with both of them
even though they are all just playable characters I still guarantee on 3 like pokemon, you can beat the first antagonist in quite a few games but Red is still the official battle legend of the game so even though you knocked out 3 that doesn't really mean that 3 is weaker that 8..? I dont think I'm properly explaining this since they are all playable characters its meaningless to compare who's stronger but if we must, as the first playable character and the first chosen squid-kid agent three is likely to be honored as the best agent, as they showed themselves afterwards as a semi-final/secret final boss
ok, so I know you all like how the octopus expansion introduced a new "agent," but "agent 8" is a nickname and a pun, as Octo means 8 and the whole CQ 10008 thing. agent 8 is a nickname and is not an agent. plus, where is agent 5-7? platoon 3 will hopefully tie up some loose ends, but consider that there are only 5 agents, with cuttlefish being the first (agent 0/the boss)
Actually, agent 3 is officially a boy, he was represented as a boy as his alter-ego DJ self when you look at the music battle between him and Marina that was apparently “7 hours long”
That wouldn't make their genders canonically female. If they had a specific canon gender why would Nintendo bother using both genders? The reason why they are depicted as both is because it's left up to the inturpretation of the player. Even if percentage wise there might be more official art depicting them as female, that doesn't make the other ones depicting the agents as male less relevant. It'd be like the gender for the player character in pokemon games was decided based on the percentage of what official art depicts the player character as.
Now that splatoon 3 is out, reranking all the characters is interesting cuz it’s mostly speculation. I’d imagine that captain 3 stomps on the rest of the agents, agent 8 and 4 being strong rivals, and new three is the weakest. Why do I say these things? Captain 3 is so strong because they show clear mastery over using their special whenever and however they need. Also, captain of the new squidbeak splatoon implies quite the level of skill. Agents 4 and 8: they are absent in the new game, and assuming they continued being agents they are the likely playable characters in the splatoon 3 DLC. That being the case, the characters likely share similar skill levels if we are expected to believe that they both with experience a similar level of difficulty on this upcoming DLC. (Of course there’s the chance we just play as new agent 3 in the dlc in which case disregard this). New agent 3: has a severe case of agent 4 syndrome where none of their achievements matter too much because they didn’t do any of their major achievements alone. For instance: New agent 3 failed to defeat Mr Grizz on their own. It took a weird salmon prophesy and a giant mech for agent 3 to actually beat mr grizz.
I think I'm gonna wait until the release of the DLC for the potential return of Agents 4 and 8 so that the winner isn't clearly Captain Agent 3. I will defend new Agent 3 though. I have a difficult time seeing how any other agent would've been able to defeat Mr. Grizz on their own without the help of the little buddy. They did also beat Deep Cut who I'm willing to bet are at least about even with the Squid Sisters who've been Agents in the Squidbeak Splatoon for even longer than Captain Agent 3 has been.

Agent 8 would probably beat the entire SquidBeak Splatoon because, again, she beat the Dark Souls of Splatoon, plus, Marie and Callie haven’t done a lot of fighting as far as we know, Pearl and Marina as well, and Cap’n Cuttlefish is old and can be weakened, despite him being very powerful, he is no better than 4 Edit: also Cap’n Cuttlefish gets tired by just doing nothing in the Octo Expansion. He falls asleep to many times to count without doing any fighting...
As of splatoon as he uses the razor to cut all the ooze meaning he is smarter and faster while 8 though have fought sanitizeds octarions we cannot forget inner agent 3 which is meant to represent captain 3 as strong as she fought him just before Oct expansion and captain could have seen her talent but he did not call for backup meaning he did not think of 8 as a tough opponent meaning 3 is lively stronger
i genuinly think 3 would be the winner in thsi situation, looking into the memcakes, 8's life as a soldier wasnt really millitary-esque, she only carried boxes and did surveillance, she doesnt even fight, even a line says that her comrad insists she "keeps moving" as she's carrying boxes. Plus, the only time agent 3 and 8 actually fought, was before the events of octo expansion, and it was barely a fight, as the ground beneeth them collapsed. plus, most of the sanitized octarians (im speaking octotroppers, and such) arent really that powerfull. Also, 8 beating 3 in that fight does technically prove that she CAN beat 3, but what if they used different weapons? different specials? bigger stage? agent 3 might main a whole different weapon, or be able to defeat 8 with anything else. i think thought, that 8 would win at least 4 times out of 10.
I agree with a lot of your points. I didn't pick that up from the mem cakes. While most sanitized octarians aren't any stronger than their non sanitized counterparts, the bosses on the other hand are. Agent 3 is also always depicted using the basic hero shot from splatoon 1 so it's pretty safe to say that is their main weapon. On the specials note though, when 8 fought 3, 8 didn't have any specials at that time whereas 3 could use their specials a nearly unlimited number of times and was even able to switch between multiple different specials over the course of the same battle. If 3 was better with any particular special chances are they used it.
@@legendarychomper i tottally agree! i think they would both have a better chances if they had the specials from 3's time (there now illegal but still, the fight would be way more enjoyable, and even give 4 a chance of getting a kill on 8 or even 3) maybe i have a huge agent 3 bias because i always prefered them, but i do belive they would be both evenly matched.

Yep. Agent 8 wins. She may lack experience against the enemies Agent 3 fought all those years ago, but more than makes up for it through hardship and pain. Agent 8 didn't even get to keep her weapons most of the time unlike Agent 3 with the only exception being the Octo Shot obtained near the end of the DLC that most likely became Agent 8's main weapon later on. Not to mention Agent 8 had to go through several challenges that often forced her to not take any damage or sometimes just no weapon at all. It's clear that Agent 8 would win in this kind of challenge and she is the exact type of hero that the world has needed for years.

All of them, Because we are the three agents and the player would most likely have more experience than the NPC. (Depending on how good you are.) Let's think. Agent 3 had years of experience meanwhile, if we played both of the games, we would have more. Agent 3 has the newest special's, she can dodge roll, and squid jump back to the UFO, the players can't do that because of the way that the game settled for them. Agent 4 is most likely younger than 3 but we don't know for sure. How many years were going on in the game than in real life? Agent 4 could've trained before going to the square. We don't know it because the game didn't give any hints at the moment. They fought against Callie and DJ with the help of Marie and Sheldon. We can't defeat 4 or 8 because, we didn't fight em yet. Agent 4 is more flexible than 3, maybe, but still. Agent 4 won on team chaos with Pearl and Callie, meanwhile, 8 and 3 were on team order which...Why?? They decided order for the world and had lost during that Splatfest. How do we know Agent 4 hasn't played more battles before? Hm? We are the players. We beat everything we see as a enemy and that mostly goes for all of them. Agent 8 saved the world with 80 levels to complete while fighting 3 and tartar. Inner Agent 3 was a memory of Agent 8 fighting them back in the day. If you are really good at the game then, Agent 3 shouldn't be hard to beat meanwhile, a lot of people can't beat them because the level of difficulty. Agent 8's memory was wiped away for some unknown reason. How do we know they still have the memory to weld a weapon while the rest are gone? The answer is left unknown. After Agent 8 goes to Inkopolis, they set out on a new life. They go back to visit Cap and fight agent 3. Of course, this is all of the players decisions in the game. ( This may not be true but I'll figure it out.) It was the hardest out of all of the single player campaign mode but, it helped the player do better from all of them together. Everything is up to the player. The choices you make in this game doesn't matter. It will always have the same ending. You are them all, you control them all, they lie in the hands of you.

For this scenario of my own speculation, let's just give each agent the weapons they had for their campaigns.
Four wouldn't last long. He/She may have joined up with the Squidbeak Splatoon, and taken out Octavio and Brainwashed Callie, but they had help from Marie to take out Callie and stop her from throwing bombs in the end, and they had Sheldon as their weapons supplier. Both of them ultimately made Four's campaign easier, especially against the Octobosses.
Three would be a close second. They've beaten the Octoweapons, and Octavio himself, ON THEIR OWN, WITH JUST ONE WEAPON. They've also been a part of the Splatoon a lot longer than Four and Eight, with much more experience than Four.
Eight however, would have to be the victor. No matter what weapon you give them, they have this down pat. Yes, they may be amnesiac, but soldier training is drilled into you. Even amnesia can't take away instinct. Using the battlefield to their advantage, she could counter any of Four's loaned arsenal, including her melee and charge weapons(Inkbrush, Roller, Charger, Splatling).
Agent Three Might have been under Tartar's control, but they weren't directly taken over by him. How would he have stuck to them, been shot off, and gotten back to his partially-busted box in time to make the statue rise? Agent Three had curling bombs, a deep understanding of their own weapon, and a removed limiter which allowed them to use several different special attacks indefinitely, such as the Splashdown, the Sting Ray, the Baller, and the Curling Bomb Launcher, and Eight still wiped the floor with her.
I believe Eight would have won this battle if it ever happened.

If the inklings actually talked, Agent 3 could utilize psychological warfare against Agent 8. The sanitized octarians and octolings used to actually be a part of the octarian army. Their life signs just ceased to function, and were effectively brainwashed. Agent 3 had spent their time collecting what information they could on the Kamabo Corporation. It's likely they could have figured out what happened to make the sanitized octarians. The sanitizing brainwashed them and destroyed their free will, and Tartar used them to attack Agent 8 after making sure that whatever he did to them would give him complete control over them.
If Agent 3 used the fact that Agent 8 was essentially mowing down their own kin without even knowing about it against them, they could capitalize on whatever emotion possessed Agent 8 at the time, be it rage or despair.

I think the Captain (formerly agent 3) would still be a top competitor as there still active & likely training to stay top dog. New Agent 3 is like a student to the captain & probably needs to train more to surpass the master.
To my knowledge, both protagonist from Splatoon 2 (agents 4 & 8) don't return so we dunno if they got any stronger since there last game but I'd imagine agent 8 is still likely the Captains hardest competition in a fight despite likely suffering from PTSD every time they see an old style phone or a blender. It would be interesting to find out what happened to agents 4 & 8 over the gap between the 2 games.

In splatoon looks like the octarian training is not that good, because agent 3 and agent 4 defeated, alone, lots of octolings, if you see it this way, the talent of agent 3 is enough to defeat an octarian, maybe agent 8 received more experience in the deep sea metro but the octarian training doesn’t give a lot of experience to agent 8

Neo 3 has Little Buddy and survived After Alterna. A gauntlet of consecutive tests and against 28 octolings at once. Her feats land her in 3rd.
2nd place is 8. Her skill is high enough to beat super bosses with inferior gear, but she aims to surpass her own demons. She still has limits.
1st place is captain 3, who has surpassed her limits in octo expansion and risen to the rank of leader. Her only weaknesses are her occasional recklessness and her poor hygiene.

There is not a single piece of canon splatoon media that depicts Agent 3 riding rails, so if the agents battled in Railway Chillin', then Agent 4's chances of winning increase.
Agent 8 and Agent 4 have more diverse weapon experience, but, Agent 3 has more maneuverability.

Agent 3 may have years of experiences, but only uses one weapon. Which may be a good thing ,since they should know it as good as themselves, but if they would've gotten a new weapon they'd would have to learn everything again. Meanwhile Agent 4 had never one main weapon, showing they learned a lot of differences weapon classes
Now onto agent 8 which would be the a bigger treat, they are an octo soldier after all and had to use their, like 4, different weapons for the tests.
Now why would I say 4? We know they are pretty athletic living in inkopolis and being active in turf war. Which shows they might have pretty good strategic thinking. They also joined the other agents pretty late but still before 8, and let's be honest most of splatoon's 2 bosses are the ones of . That further more proves they had simulare enemys as 3, showing they are almost equal as good, but they fought dj octavio WITH callie on his side and won, meanwhile agent 3 just won against octavio with callie. Also 4 didn't have capt'n cuttlefish as their leader, they only had Marie which (I suppose) didn't teach them as good as, a captain, but they still won against a stronger octavio! Now I lost my point with agent 8, they are an octo soldier with the knowledge of different weapon classes, but still just a soldier not an elite one, hinting at them being strong but not extremely.
Now if we would take that with 8 and 4, 8 would win because of their experience or would they? Agent 3 fought 8 ending in a draw (beginning of octo expansion) and I just proved why 4 is superior over 3 and since 3 and 8 are equal, 4 would come on top.

I'd say 8. They fought the mighty 3 2 times during the octo expansion. If they managed to splat the "pillar" or best agent of the squidbeak splatoon twice, I think it's a clear win in my book
For anyone bringing up 8 beating 3, the first time she’s hijacked, so that’s more 8 beatong Tar Tar if anything. And the second is a memory 8 gets OBLITERATED on. It’s comparable to what Galacta Knight does in Kirby games. 8 has bigger achievements, but if IA3 showed me anything, she’s way, WAY above 8 when it comes to combat.
The time gap between Splatoon 1 and 2 is 2 years. So by the Octo Expansion, Agent 3 would be about 16-17, not 19.
We also don't know is Marie was referring to Agent 3 NOW or Agent 3 Two Years Ago. So that would make them either 16 or 18.
Yes, in 2017 when splatoon 2 was released Agent 3 would be 16. But as the time in splatoon moves at the same speed as us, as shown in the Squid vs Octopus splatfest which was to celebrate splatoon 2's 1 year anniversary when Pearl and Marina reminisce about how they have been working for inkopolis news for a year. Splatoon 2 came out in 2017 and the squid vs octopus happened in 2018 and since characters in universe in 2018 acknowledge that a year has past means that time in the splatoon universe does in fact keep moving forward. So by 2020 Agent 3 would be 19.

I wouldn’t count Inner Agent 3 into the judgement for 8 because that was the “inner hero,” which implies this didn’t really happen in an external event. The fight against Inner Agent 3 is optional anyway so we have a timeline where it did happen and didn’t happen. Agent 3 is the oldest with the most experience against low level Octarians all the way up to high level Octolings, and continues the work for x amount of years. Agent 4 would be least likely to win due to the easy difficulty in the story mode and probably won’t be getting much attention. Hopefully Splatoon 3’s DLC can offset this a bit. Agent 8 has beaten the TarTar out of Agent 3 to remove the possession fluids off of Agent 3. Furthermore, 8 has beaten hundreds of sanitized creatures while making it to the surface and even saved inkpolis from uncertain doom with Off the Hook’s help. If Inner Agent 3 was canon to the plot line, I’d say 3 would win due to the ability to dodge without dualies, change specials at will, and the nightmarish amount of auto bombs used. If I.A.3. wasn’t canon, then it’d be 8 due to the challenges 8 had to deal with. 8 would be the most well rounded of the group due to how diverse all the challenges are and even taking down the bosses in sanitized form, which has proven stronger than Agent 4’s mess of bosses. If you read through this, you’re either bored and have a lot of time or a legend.

The hygiene part, not important, but the other bit proves that in terms of age, 3 is younger.

True. However, Octoling Soldier training sticks in your muscles. Muscle memory is something that's extremely hard to get rid of, especially after years of the same old thing. Agent 8 may have lost her memories, but the combat training is engraved in her body.

i see a bunch of people shitting on 4 for being inexperienced and getting help during the campaign, but i think its important to note that octavio had 2 whole years to improve his army and his weapons, and lets not gloss over the fact that sheldon forcing weapons on you isnt exactly an aid, 4 had to master 9 whole weapons.

Nintendo just decided to give the fuck up when it comes to the splatoon timeline, so it turns out now that splatoon 3 takes place around a year and a half after splat 2, changing the total amount of years that 3 has been in the squidbeak to around 3 ½ years as of now. another thing to point point out is that octo expansion happened at the same time as the splat 2 campaign, and agent three was out with captain well before splat 2s campaign, so theres no chance they fought the octo bosses.
now, some people keep pointing out that 8 has a greater arsenal than 4, and while that may be true, 8s thing is more that they can learn the basics of any weapon no issue, but mastering them isnt their thing, imagine having to master more than like 30 weapons.
im not saying that 4 would necessarily win, im saying that 4 has a higher chance than people realize and that people still dont realize that agent 4 obviously has superior hygiene over the others

I think either Agent 8 or Agent 3. Agent 3 has had 5 years of training (I think that’s what you said?) and defeated DJ. Octavio herself (but he escaped from that snow globe and did some more s-). She had to go to many sectors to defeat enemies, too. But I think Agent 8 would win because of the MANY sectors she was pressured to go into. She defeated sanitized versions of enemies and sanitized bosses. And she defeated Agent 3 once AND if you complete all the levels in the Octo expansion, you get to fight inner agent 3. Now let me tell you, inner agent 3 is HARD to defeat, honey. And like you said, she had training as an octoling. But, it remains unknown with who will win, big chance it could be Agent 8, but Agent 3 might win, but who knows?

I think agent 8 would win because not only did he/she defeat 80 levels of madness, they also defeated agent 3 (one of the most experienced agents) and in sanitized form who had the special limit removed. With all that being said, agent 8 took on challenges no other agent has ever seen before, making them the best out of the three. BUT, this may sound kinda crazy, but I think there still is a chance that agent *4* has an advantage over agent three. You see, agent 3 defeated DJ Octavio, but agent 4 defeated DJ Octavio AND Callie who is probably the most experienced agent because she is agent 1. And, agent 4 fought bosses way harder than the ones agent 3 fought. For example: giant fish comes out of a bowl, goes into ink, tries to eat you, you break its teeth, get out, it comes to surface, break some more teeth, chuck a bomb in, boom. Tentacle comes out, you ink it up, rinse and repeat 2 more times. Each time though it gets better teeth. While over in Octo canyon, agent 4 is fighting a flying shower shooting ink lasers at you through walls. See? But in all, I think agent 8 would win.
Octavio only had much less time to prepare for Splatoon 2, so 4 would be last.
Agent 3 had a lot of training, but 8 still beat agent 3, both hypnotized and inner. 8 would either tie or win.
I don't think it's as close as you are making it seem. While yes, 8 did beat inner agent 3, if you look at the ratio for how many times the player has died before they beat inner agent 3 for 50 people you would see that 3 splatted 8 way more often than 8 did 3. Even then you're not really fighting agent 3, because it's just a reskin of a slightly buffed octoling AI with special weapons. After that there are still a lot of variables that could easily change the outcome, so 8 could still very well win

My ranking would be (counting Splatoon 1 iterations):
Splatoon 1 Agent 8 < Splatoon 1 Agent 3 < Agent 4 < Splatoon 2 Agent 3 < Splatoon 2 Agent 8
We know Agent 8 was around for the Calamari Inkantation and that they were a soldier before defecting. Considering how easily Agent 3 was able to defeat octolings, it's safe to assume that in Splatoon 1, Eight was the weakest. I would put Agent 4 above Splatoon 1 Agent 3 because the levels became more difficult in Splatoon 2. Not only does Four have to go through these tougher levels, they also have the experience of multiple weapons Sheldon gives them. Now, if the agents' present day iterations fought, then Four would easily lose because they are less experienced than the other two.
Splatoon 2 Agent 3 has become a lot more experienced than in Splatoon 1, with their skills on par with Agent 8. Now, why would I place Agent 8 above Agent 3? It's because the tests Agent 8 had to undergo were brutal. Seeing as they were able to go through however-many tests and escape the metro afterwards, they've clearly had a lot of experience. They can also use almost any weapon thrown at them thanks to these tests, while Agent 3 can only use a Hero Shot. And since Agent 8 was able to beat Agent 3, although they were controlled at the time, once, I think they could beat them a second time.
(Inner Agent 3 is heavily implied to be a memory, or at least occurring in Eight's head, so I'm not going to factor that into the ranking.)

I'm placing my bets on agent 8 because she beat the sanitized octarians, had experience in the octoling army, since octolings are forced to join at a young age and the sanitized version of agent 3, which from all the videos I've watched, is the HARDEST boss in all of Splatoon.

While I agree with 4 having the least experience out of the three, I would say they have the most skill when it comes to the weapons. 4 has access to 9 different Hero Weapons and has displayed at minimum proficiency with all of them. 3 has never been shown using anything other than their Hero Shooter and 8, while also displaying proficiency with the weapons, has never been forced to use them to the same extent as 4.
Going off of experience alone then 3 wins, but if 4 and 8 have their full arsenals then I feel 3 would get overwhelmed by 4's Hero weapons and 8's Metro Gear. 4 also has access to a modded Rainmaker that lacks a timer meaning they basically have an infinite Special which the others only can only get from canned Specials.
I still feel that 4 can lose due to lack of experience fighting against foes with similar skill levels, but their gear helps keep them in the fight, even just a couple extra minutes

Agent 8 would beat them all because as far as we know, Marina, Pearl, Callie, and Marie haven’t done as much fighting and Captain Cuttlefish is to old to fight anymore. And agent 8 already beat Agent 3- twice - and 4 just doesn’t have as much experience in my opinion. Btw whoever gave me this idea thx!

I feel like the remark that agent 3 most likely didn’t beat the octobosses so agent 4 is better in that regard isn’t fair. The only reason agent 3 didn’t beat the octobosses is because he never had to face them. Just like how 4 never had to face the octoweapons. While I have no doubt that 4 could take out the octoweapons, I feel like if 3 was given the chance to fight the octobosses he wouldn’t have much trouble. The final verdict I can completely agree with though. 8 would mop the floor with both of them
new agent 3: allow me to introduce myself (saved the world just like 8 by defeating mr grizz)
even though they are all just playable characters I still guarantee on 3
like pokemon, you can beat the first antagonist in quite a few games
but Red is still the official battle legend of the game
so even though you knocked out 3 that doesn't really mean that 3 is weaker that 8..?

but if we must, as the first playable character and the first chosen squid-kid agent three is likely to be honored as the best agent, as they showed themselves afterwards as a semi-final/secret final boss
ok, so I know you all like how the octopus expansion introduced a new "agent," but "agent 8" is a nickname and a pun, as Octo means 8 and the whole CQ 10008 thing.

platoon 3 will hopefully tie up some loose ends, but consider that there are only 5 agents, with cuttlefish being the first (agent 0/the boss)
One thing I realized is that Agent 8 was named like that because, October 8 is octopus day.

That wouldn't make their genders canonically female. If they had a specific canon gender why would Nintendo bother using both genders? The reason why they are depicted as both is because it's left up to the inturpretation of the player. Even if percentage wise there might be more official art depicting them as female, that doesn't make the other ones depicting the agents as male less relevant. It'd be like the gender for the player character in pokemon games was decided based on the percentage of what official art depicts the player character as.

Now that splatoon 3 is out, reranking all the characters is interesting cuz it’s mostly speculation. I’d imagine that captain 3 stomps on the rest of the agents, agent 8 and 4 being strong rivals, and new three is the weakest.
Why do I say these things?
Captain 3 is so strong because they show clear mastery over using their special whenever and however they need. Also, captain of the new squidbeak splatoon implies quite the level of skill.
Agents 4 and 8: they are absent in the new game, and assuming they continued being agents they are the likely playable characters in the splatoon 3 DLC. That being the case, the characters likely share similar skill levels if we are expected to believe that they both with experience a similar level of difficulty on this upcoming DLC. (Of course there’s the chance we just play as new agent 3 in the dlc in which case disregard this).
New agent 3: has a severe case of agent 4 syndrome where none of their achievements matter too much because they didn’t do any of their major achievements alone.
For instance: New agent 3 failed to defeat Mr Grizz on their own. It took a weird salmon prophesy and a giant mech for agent 3 to actually beat mr grizz.
I think I'm gonna wait until the release of the DLC for the potential return of Agents 4 and 8 so that the winner isn't clearly Captain Agent 3. I will defend new Agent 3 though. I have a difficult time seeing how any other agent would've been able to defeat Mr. Grizz on their own without the help of the little buddy. They did also beat Deep Cut who I'm willing to bet are at least about even with the Squid Sisters who've been Agents in the Squidbeak Splatoon for even longer than Captain Agent 3 has been.

Agent 8 would probably beat the entire SquidBeak Splatoon because, again, she beat the Dark Souls of Splatoon, plus, Marie and Callie haven’t done a lot of fighting as far as we know, Pearl and Marina as well, and Cap’n Cuttlefish is old and can be weakened, despite him being very powerful, he is no better than 4
Edit: also Cap’n Cuttlefish gets tired by just doing nothing in the Octo Expansion. He falls asleep to many times to count without doing any fighting...

As of splatoon as he uses the razor to cut all the ooze meaning he is smarter and faster while 8 though have fought sanitizeds octarions we cannot forget inner agent 3 which is meant to represent captain 3 as strong as she fought him just before Oct expansion and captain could have seen her talent but he did not call for backup meaning he did not think of 8 as a tough opponent meaning 3 is lively stronger
i genuinly think 3 would be the winner in thsi situation, looking into the memcakes, 8's life as a soldier wasnt really millitary-esque, she only carried boxes and did surveillance, she doesnt even fight, even a line says that her comrad insists she "keeps moving" as she's carrying boxes. Plus, the only time agent 3 and 8 actually fought, was before the events of octo expansion, and it was barely a fight, as the ground beneeth them collapsed.
plus, most of the sanitized octarians (im speaking octotroppers, and such) arent really that powerfull.
Also, 8 beating 3 in that fight does technically prove that she CAN beat 3, but what if they used different weapons? different specials? bigger stage? agent 3 might main a whole different weapon, or be able to defeat 8 with anything else.

I agree with a lot of your points. I didn't pick that up from the mem cakes. While most sanitized octarians aren't any stronger than their non sanitized counterparts, the bosses on the other hand are.
Agent 3 is also always depicted using the basic hero shot from splatoon 1 so it's pretty safe to say that is their main weapon.
On the specials note though, when 8 fought 3, 8 didn't have any specials at that time whereas 3 could use their specials a nearly unlimited number of times and was even able to switch between multiple different specials over the course of the same battle. If 3 was better with any particular special chances are they used it.
@@legendarychomper i tottally agree! i think they would both have a better chances if they had the specials from 3's time (there now illegal but still, the fight would be way more enjoyable, and even give 4 a chance of getting a kill on 8 or even 3) maybe i have a huge agent 3 bias because i always prefered them, but i do belive they would be both evenly matched.
um i meen the three angents do have a canon gender but in game you can make them a boy or a girl and anget 3 4 and 8 are all female.well canon ways

Yep. Agent 8 wins. She may lack experience against the enemies Agent 3 fought all those years ago, but more than makes up for it through hardship and pain. Agent 8 didn't even get to keep her weapons most of the time unlike Agent 3 with the only exception being the Octo Shot obtained near the end of the DLC that most likely became Agent 8's main weapon later on. Not to mention Agent 8 had to go through several challenges that often forced her to not take any damage or sometimes just no weapon at all. It's clear that Agent 8 would win in this kind of challenge and she is the exact type of hero that the world has needed for years.
I feel like Agent 3 would win because Agent 3 just feels more..... intelligent. I mean, 8 literally just agreed with Cap to walk into a giant blender, so....... y'know. But I can agree that they are EXTREMELY evenly matched and that it would be very close
