      the clue is in the words.. 'thoughts' and 'fantasy'.. the werewolf is not a real man. It is the animal energy required for fucking that is the turn on. The nice guy she lives with doesn't make her heart race. Why don't guys ever get this.

    Vampire: Mysterious masculinity (in the dark, unexpecting, cunning)
    Werewolf: Animalistic masculinity (primal alpha, pack leader, strong, fierce)
    Billionaire: Status masculinity (living the high life, luxury, comfort, assurance)
    Pirate: Adventurous masculinity (fear no danger, break the rules, dream seeker)
    Surgeon: Intellectual masculinity (precise, dependable, trustworthy, between life and death)

      Yep. Success and Danger directed at the woman in a positive way is the key to the female fantasy. Billionaires and Surgeons are the epitome of success trait in the minds of many. Who doesn't want to marry a doctor or have a billionaire jet you around the world in the lap of luxury?

    We're always told that women want a man they can fix or tame, I'm not sure that's really the draw. The draw is finding a man who has the capacity to be aggressive and dangerous enough so that you know they can protect you and your family, while also knowing they love and admire you enough to never use those powers directly on you.

It's one thing to want to "fix" your partner, and another thing to want what's best for him, you might not always know what that is, but it's important to try and help him to figure that out.
    Though I totally do get the appeal of helping your partner become a better man, but it's important to grow alongside him

      Agreed. Growing allong side your partner is the healthy way. But through both books, movies and series I notice that the “I can fix him” mentality is literally being pushed onto women. It’s always the guy not being able to behave or is incredibly dangerous to the people around him but only that one special woman can stop him and calm him down. As a lady, for me, its not the being dominated or taming a beast thing...its the world. The adventures, the magic, the danger a world like theirs can give. Normal life is dull for most people. Being in a world with Pirates, vampires, or werewolves is exciting and different. Same thing with elves...not traditionally masculine, beasts to be tamed, or dominating. Lots of ladies just loving the difference of a fantasy world and having a man to be with within that world. You remove the special worlds these men come from or the secret worlds they exist in within our own and you get what? Greg the vampire that works in accounting and only feeds on the weekends...not a lot of ladies, if any, will thirst over that. Even the fantasy of being with a billionaire is fueled by what money like that can open up for you. The fashion, travel, status. Its erotic escapism. We just go from daydreaming about prince charming to something with a bit more edge and sexiness as we get older.

    Interesting that it includes "surgeon" as one of the 5, but if you think about it, it really makes sense. In order to compete in the medical field at such a high level, and to continue doing so, requires an exemplary degree of effort and complex action, which is an abstract of aggression. But where's the danger? What makes a surgeon as deadly as a vampire or pirate? Well, ultimately... perhaps more so than even a pirate, a surgeon literally has the power of life and death every single day... with one cut, they can save a person's life, or they can end it.

Knowing that you can influence someone to that level, where he didn't listen to anyone before you came along, it makes you feel special.
    Even I consider the idea romantic, even thought I know, rationally speaking, that someone who is only nice to someone just because he's in love with her, is a bad partner to have.

Woman do not have power, but they are pretty. Men are strong, but everyone knows they are weak to a pretty face.

      You said it best, Lynette. Fictional alpha men who are tamed by a woman to the point of emasculation is not appealing. The point of the taming (when done well) is not just about the woman, it's about bringing happiness to the alpha. The end of Dirty Dancing, Johnny is still macho, even though Baby has tamed him. In fact, he's more emboldened by the end, standing up to the "rich and mean" employers that he grovelled to as a hot-headed Alpha.

Women are drawn to that as it is through nature but we also need to make sure the monster is redeemable to some extent for our own safety, comfort, and fulfillment. Also a monster that is tame only with us is the highest level of protection we could have. It also helps us feel special. Its layered. I think the archetype of a woman taming a man comes from a woman’s insecurity. Beauty doesn’t make you special - there are millions of beautiful women out there. But if you can be the one woman who tames a man - who stands by him despite all of the negative things - who makes him see the light - who makes him love you enough to be better - well THAT makes you special. That makes you indispensable to him in a way beauty and sex and even a regular relationship doesn’t. You’ll be the girl who saw the diamond in the coal, the prince in the toad, etc. and when he transforms you’ll have a man that appreciates all that you did for him when no one else would. And if you can make yourself indispensable to a man, then he will never leave you - then you’re safe and he’ll treat you well... At least, that’s what the fantasy is. Reality is often quite different.

    • @kateSullivan3927
      @kateSullivan3927 4 года назад +63

      It's a nice fantasy, I agree. But the irony is that an alpha male can only be temporarily "tamed" by any woman. Perhaps 5-10 years at most. If he is desired by many women he will always have options and distractions.

    • @skillo6399
      @skillo6399 4 года назад +49

      The fun thing is, it becomes a game between her wanting to tame the man, and the man using push-pull to always portrait the image that he might simply leave at some point. Many call this "Dread". Keeping the dread makes the woman always try to dominate you, because through dread you express exactly the opposite - you are so untaimed that you might go for someone else.
      Some might say it can be borderline unethical to play around such things, as it may easily classified as manipulation, but I would argue that the opposite is also very real and can real to catastrophic failures. A completely tamed man gets boring really quick, and she might as well try to find someone more interesting to start this taming Journey back again.

His wife, a young woman of no more than twenty-five, was in labor when I arrived in their small cottage. I tried my best, as any man of medicine would. However, even though the woman survived, as well as the newborn girl, the hemorrhaging had an unforeseen effect. Little did I know, this woman was secretly in love with another being. But honestly has I have gotten older, and I am only early 20s mind you, I have realized how much I personally don't want that sort of relationship. I married a man who did not fit into the "needs to be tamed" category because I discovered I wanted to be with someone who wouldn't induce a heart attack by acting out rashly out of protectiveness or just sheer passion. I married a guy who would act but with more thought to his actions and how they could impact our life together. What I am saying is no matter how attractive men that take care of the problem, or get aggressive can be, I myself am way too independent and practical minded of a female to want that outside of a book lol. My man doesn't need to change for me, we will both adapt as necessary.

  • @poorunsuspectinghunk

    I think it's because a typical girl wants to feel safe in a relationship. Where the agressive guy would be dangerous to everyone else, but protective of her. But she wants to tame him to show she's strong in her own right, but not in a physical way. More on the emotional side of things, where she doesn't cave to the man's principles. It's a dangerous world out there and a girl just wants to feel safe and special through the person she's attracted to.

    I can only speak for myself, but I used to love such romance stories when I was a teenager, but not anymore - a lack of emotional control and overall angstiness seem juvenile and just unattractive. I think he's wrong to mix sexuality with the topic of relationships, too. What turns you on is not necessarily what you look for in a partner. These romances are things to get off to - not something most people actually wish happened to them if it were possible. At least from my experience - I was in a relationship with the "tough and dominant" type of guy and lo and behold, it sucked. Later on, I learned to value democratic relationships and got to know the beautiful intimacy a vulnerable individual can give. I do however think he hit the nail on the head when he said that when chaos ensues, how are you going to know a tame person is going to be able to handle it? Some sort of strength is a desirable quality in a partner, but I think it is so to some extent for both sexes. Nobody finds complete helplessness and neediness attractive.

    No one asked, but I'm here to explain the vampire one in more detail. I don't think it's as weird or shallow as it seems on the surface 😅
    It's important to note that women don't typically like *evil* vampires who are actively killing people. Women like *good* vampires. Whether we're talking about Twilight, Buffy, or any of the thousands of other vampire stories out there, women like noble vampires who willingly choose to abstain from human blood.
    I think this is because the bloodlust vampires feel is a thinly veiled metaphor for sexual lust (or possibly any addictive sin). In other words, a vampire who can control his desire to drink blood is a man who can control his sexual desire. A good vampire represents a man who is strong enough to resist temptation and rise above his nature in an effort to protect others.
    In my opinion, this is the primary reason the idea of vampires appeals to women (especially the more traditionally-minded variety). Good vampires are men with morals and values. They have the power to hurt others but they choose against it. They don't give into selfish, carnal pleasures at the expense of others, no matter how powerful the temptation may be.
    Bonus: vampires usually live a long time (because they're immortal), so over the years, they've acquired wisdom, intelligence, and life experience. They're old souls. They're emotionally mature. They're civilized and refined. They typically come from an earlier time when chivalry was the norm. That gentlemanly nature seems to linger within them.
    The bottom line: vampires represent the female desire for men who can control their actions even in the face of strong temptation, have life experience and maturity, and behave like gentlemen. The interesting thing is that these are completely attainable goals for any regular guy (or girl--I'm trying to work on some of these things myself), and I'm thankful to know many real men who exemplify these qualities beautifully.
    In fact, I'm blessed to be dating my very own "noble vampire." 😉

      The abstain from blood bit isnt really right as abstaining kills them often women are ok with becoming vampires in those stories. Many vampires also have castles Can Grant immortality to their partner and are hunted by vampire hunters. With a vampire it's considered good enough if they don't kill those they suck blood from

    When I was like 20~ I loved reading books and I also favoured the 'bad guys', vampires and werewolves. I also questioned why I felt drawn to them and why alot of other women do too. And I think I found an answer that sounds plausible and right to me.
    I think those bad guys represent things that a lot of women dont have. They represent what some women long for, what might bring balance.
    Since young age, I and a lot other girls are taught to behave, be calm, show good manners, be empathetic, be good at school, do this, do that, in fact: be a good girl and you'll get praised. I know so many that grow up this way into adulthood. And if you happen to also be a shy girl, books can be an escape from this situation, this world, in which you feel like everything you are and will be is decided by someone else.
    And then you meet those characters, the bad guys, the vampires, the werewolves. They represent all that: Independence, power, being unapologetic, free, wild, adventurous, special, being egoistical. Thats what (I think) a lot desire about those men. They want what they dont have .

    "What makes you think you want someone who is tame anyways?"....If this conversation could have continued, or if any female romance novel or film could continue beyond the woman taming the male character and "living happily ever after", then you'd see a slow death of the relationship as the women all realize they are no longer attracted to their now tame man, because who would be? That is the real takeaway about how females look at men. They love the idea of the alpha male and the bad boy but only insomuch as they can tame them and make them come around to acting the way the female prefers...which then kills what was attractive about that man in the first place.

    I wonder if females lose interest once they feel their man has been fully tamed

    • @iTheStalker
      @iTheStalker 6 лет назад +396

      Actually no they don't. There's no point in taming someone into being good with others. The point of taming is for the male to be civil towards his girl only. He has to keep that aggression towards the outside world.
      Think about it. If a women seeks out a dominant male, this is power, this is protection. If you strip it ALL away... you will be left with the opposite of what you seek. The point is to "tame" the man into being caring and compassionate towards you only. What good will a tamed male be if he cowers at other threats?
      As Peterson explained. Tame is in the sense of being civil. Towards the outside world only. You can still be civil and ASSERTIVE, CONFIDENT, etc.That's positive dominance.
      But someone who is simply aggressive and violent towards his own spouse... will be violent towards the children as well. As a female, if you let the husband be so untamed that he hurts the offspring. You have failed your one job.
      It's quite simple. Find a dominant male. Tame him to the extent he is protective and caring of the family. Turning a guy into a pussy is useless. And honestly, I have actually never seen a case like that. If it does happen, the male in question wasn't very assertive to begin with. Just anti-social. And that anti-social and bad behavior was mistaken for dominance. Which it is not.
      Young girls often confused "bad boys" for being dominant. But that is a false. Being anti-society is not dominance. Just think of these weak emo kids. They are "bad" in the sense of ignoring rules, not caring about the future etc. But they are not dominant. You want to tame a dominant male into caring about you and the family. That's it.

      um no... Any psychology book will tell you there's a very distinct difference. Anti-social people are AGAINST society. They cause harm to people, they do not want to follow the rules, etc. They are anti- society.
      Asocial is when you do not want to socialize. You AVOID society.
      Avoiding society is not the same as being AGAINST society.
      But yes, I understand where your confusion is coming from. People are misusing the word antisocial. Professionals do not misuse it. In fact, psychopathy and sociopathy are under the category of antisocial. Just to give you a clue of how serious it is.
      If you are still unsure, just look up antisocial personality disorder. It's the medical diagnoses for people who are antisocial.
