You both brought a lot of insight towards solo-play, would be nice to have someone who is more oriented towards group-play bring their insights into a tier list like this as there’s some classes that are crucial to succeeding in group and raiding content, and for those coming from other MMOs that love to raid I feel it’s important
She has the same problem that I have with the Warden, but didn't explain it well: It's a piano class. You have to do three to five keystrokes just to do one ability, and the keystrokes have no cooldown, so that makes them "button mashing" as she stated. The other problem with Warden is that it's not an easy class to pick back up after a long while away from it as you have to re-familiarize with the keystrokes for each gambit. I want to like the class (medium armor tank with great movement abilities plus some range), but those problems just take away all the enjoyment from the class for me.
It is basically my favorite class. But i have had a 2-3 year break and now I feel like i have to start a new warden or I will never get used to my old one again.
I didn't mind the combo system so much up until I started running into more and more lag. Lag COMPLETELY destroys my enjoyment of the Warden, as constantly missing combos because of momentary lag spikes made me shelve my Warden for the most part, and go back to playing my Minstrel as my "main".
I started playing the game after watching this as a hunter and having a lot of fun so far! I also love the idea of warden but it seems quite frustrating to play in EU with server lag, can't seem to get the gambits out smoothly, there's always a delay.
My favorite class is Burglar, Minstrel (dps line) is good too. I find Warden challenging and is certainly unique, so I probably play Warden even more than Burglar. As Burg you have stealth which is great for getting things done, and you even have stealth ability on a Warsteed -- which makes an unfun activity like Warsteeds much better. The trick with Burg is to get enough traits that you can sneak at a quick pace. With practice you can escape anything, kill warband leaders above your level too. Very underrated. I keep playing Loremasters because I love Pets... but the pets in this game are lame -- and the LM has so many abilities/spells that have long inductions, it is just not satisfying to play. If they ever improved the pets and removed the inductions, I'd probably make LMs my mains. Runekeepers are a bit above average, but for me they are even better because both the healing and the dps lines are fun, not many do both well. And dropping those totems is a hoot.
I've been playing for like 1-2 years and just a week ago tried for the very first time warden literally because of your videos and it's easily one of my favorite classes if not the best. Incredibly enough i didn't have a problem memorising the gambits as i thought i would. I love the tank aspect but i have to say that it's super fun all the bleeds and damage over time it can generate as you say the biggest downside i've encountered it's the numb in my fingers after a while lol but pretty fun overall thank you for your videos without them i would not have give it a try
I think the issue that the captain primarily has is it probably should not be a damage overtime class when it comes to solo content. I think that they abilities should do a little frontal cleave when they have a big two hand out and just put the smack down on things with upfront damage. Maybe sword and board with some of the damage to bleed damage since you are kind of fencing at that point
I've been playing Mariner since it's rollout. I've found that it rewards you for a paced gameplay. If you just mash keys as fast as you can you're just going to pass out. I'm really enjoying it.
Since you both have very different tastes, you should have just put a line down the middle and made two lists. still was very fun to watch. probably should have talked about this before recording even maybe. you both say you like ranged classes, but mostly you disagree on the majority.
Since playing WoW and a couple MMOs which have a stealth class that opens from steath with a shit load of BURST damage (WoW = Ambush ability, 65% crit chance and 300% weapon dmg), every single MMORPG that i play i try to replicate this feeling, this is simply the best feeling ever, hit killing everything (or almost) with every single blow., stealth, kill, stealth again then kill again... I began playing last week with a Burglar and i'm not really enjoying its burst but the community kept saying things get better.
That was a fun video to listen to and I really enjoyed hearing your takes on the different classes. I think for me, if I had to rate the classes (hard choices since I really enjoy so many of them!) I'd have to go -- Most fun overall - Runekeeper, because it's currently my most played Most fun to play with a friend - hunter in blue line because my friend Gus is a guardian Most fun for healing - Minstrel. I've always loved healing with the minstrel, though I'll be honest, I haven't done that in years and that might have changed Most fun for survivability - it's a tossup between the guardian and the captain. I love them both. They kill stuff slow but they can take a beating! Most challenging class to learn - for me that'd be the burglar. I never could figure it out. Warden, after the trait tree introduction, would be second. I feel like I should go back and revisit the champion. It's been ages since I played one and I don't remember a lot about it. Beorning wasn't fun for me, it felt too easy. And, for giggles, I do love my hobbit brawler. She's adorable. :D
I've played my captain main since beta, (2 months,3 weeks play time now) I find it hilarious that they re worked it for a solo capable experience and yet I promise you it was easier to solo the captain when the cap was 50 and content was generally harder. When they spread all the skills out between 3 trees and changed the standard system it lost its potential. Most people did not, but back in the 50 cap days if you maxed out your war and moral banners both, which wasn't recommended, but in fact was an exploit. I would always start a duel or challenging fight with my moral standards giving me like 15% more health, as soon as the health was lost I'd switch to the war standard for a 15% damage boost. So if you were dueling me, it simply looked like I had a huge heal combined with an insane damage boost, that combined with my 20% crit, 5% devastation it was honestly extremely rare I lost a duel. I truly miss the original captain playstyle
I'm so glad I found this video... I keep trying LOTRO at various points through the years and there's so much I like about it... but I keep bouncing off. And I t hink I finally see why - my main is always Captain. Because I love the idea of having a partner built in to help me out, but invariably I feel bogged down and kinda bored. Maybe I just have to give up on that and focus on something else next time I try.
I started a new Warden to try out the river hobbits and found I was having a lot more fun at lower level than I did with my older one. When I started it was a Hunter all the way (back in the mists of time - summer 2008) - in fact I start EVERY new game as a hunter/sniper and the same name since og Baldur's Gate. I rarely have a main as I need variety to keep me interested, but it was my most played. I had a minstrel, but they were horrible back then and I hardly bothered - except when I read complaints and then felt like I had to prove a point. HATE Captain but I'm working on it. Find Burglar dull these days. RK was great until the squish hurt my Stone, but it means I'm giving Lore some love now.
Fav Overall- Loremaster Fav Solo/Questing- Burglar or Hunter Fav Group Play/Raids- Loremaster or Captain Fav Pvmp- Hunter Too many choices! I always suffer from Alt jumping, takes me forever to decide which class to level up 😅
One reason it's so hard to rate classes overall - the number of different categories you could be basing the rating on! I certainly think of some classes differently for solo vs group play, for example
@@Louey7exactly! like i love utility/crowd control classes the most so i find myself jumping around depending on the situation. ex: i love captain in raids but hate it in pvmp or soloing
As much as I love the Warden and would also have it at the top of the list (I barely play anything else), Aubrey makes some valid criticism for the class. I would also agree that blue line is in a better spot right now than red, which I really don't mind, as I have always enjoyed tanking more than DPS. Lastly, I'm very happy with how I have set up my key maps to avoid the issues Louey mentioned and I've been thinking about sharing it, seems I have another reason to do so now. What class duo would you recommend? My brother wants to go hunter, what 2nd class would you think goes well together and is fun and strong currently? 😊
I only started the game a few days ago just to see how it compares to all the other MMOs I've played and I started with a Warden, which I am enjoying. I think it's really flexible for an MMO class and I love the theme of it. I honestly wish there were more of this Peltast type of class in other MMOs, it's pretty cool throwing javelins at enemies
I'm a captain fan. I've tried champion, hunter, guardian and minstrel. I always came back to the captain, I did like minstrel aswell. I think I've always enjoyed support classes that can also DPS. The Captain fits that slot I think. I also was super happy when I got the reputation to get the oathbreaker companion back in the day.

HEllo Louey would you ever be interested in making a video with your set up for your warden as really enjoy warden but trying to find ways to be able to set up for the gambits
13:40 - WHAT? I made two Captains this year (both after the revamp) and, while they're stuck below L21 as I've not been playing due to other reasons, I enjoyed them both times immensely. >:D There's something really fun about being able to tank a bit while fighting mobs in melee and having a companion with you, which says quite a bit considering I'm a ranged/mage kinda guy. 😅 Also I'm watching this late; Mariner is already out. 😆
I’ve had a lot of fun playing the Runkeeper, And there have been times that I have liked playing my burglar and it’s just hard to not play with Hunter as your primary character because of its convenience factor with all of the teleports, especially if you’re a new player. I have not put serious time into the captain, or brawler even less. I do like the class fantasy of a fist fighter, but it’s hard for me to wrap my head around. Someone punching their way through middle earth. It’s easy to understand how other classes are able to use some kind of magic or Technical/weapon ability to gain an advantage, But it’s hard thinking this is just a human who punches really hard and he can keep up with people slinging around lightning and swords. With that said, the minstrel exists, so what am I talking about? For some reason, it’s easier to accept that one for me. I Think that The burglar should just move faster and stealth in general. I know the class fantasy is to sneak around, but you feel kind of silly when you’re sneaking up on a mob and in the meantime, you look over and a hunter has killed like six mobs
I am a brand new player and loving minstrel I have a little healing points and mostly damage and just going alone figuring things out on my own and I’m really enjoying it, it feels really strong to me I’m on level 2 difficulty and it’s still fine, I’m scared of going higher though lol
Yeah she seems to be confusing "button mashing" (the frantic pushing of random buttons that just seems to "work") with having to understand and parse several complex steps in order to do something very specific. I get not wanting to put that much thought into an MMO rotation, but it ain't button mashing.
"It's really flexible." That's exactly the point... :-) No other class can choose the way a fight goes quite as comprehensively. Instead of having 1 or 2 situational rotations, you have many, which means you have better survival and can be more effective in a wide variety of situations.
that's when I started my first account I lost the log in info for was when they first did free trials..my main account is actually the third account I made because I lost and later recovered my second account and oddly enough...Loremaster what the first character I tried too..ended up with hunter as my main. Time was perfect because I had been upset with how wow was going at the time and a friend of mine at work was a big gamer and he was telling me i should try Lotro because I like crafting and his brother at the time was in a Kin who all did music so I made an account ...some time around late 2010 I believe.
I have a captain main and i wouldn't played him for 12 years if it wouldn't be fun . To level up a captain is hard wqork but but it is far far from being boring. Working hard on something and than getting the rewards at the end what makes this class VERY VERY FUN. My other "mainish" character is a warden and that one is also very fun to play. Louie i agree with you on that one ! Captain is fifth in popularity in genaral and at higher levels 120-140 is on second /third place in weekdays and weekends playitime .So there is your not fun.
Gotta say... while I know tier lists are opinionated, the lack of love for my two favorite classes stung. Burg is super fun when you want to think tactically about navigating the world and taking out enemies while avoiding roaming patrols. The sneak feature alone makes delving faster, not to mention the often dreaded Goblin Town. Brawler might not be thematically fun for folks, but just smashing my way through stuff is just a blast. Two of my faves.... just wallowing in mediocrity! The betrayal! ❤
It's good that you talk about the class fantasy and why you personally enjoy or don't enjoy a class: for me, Tank Guardian was *the* way I played lotro for years. I'd dabble in a few other classes, but being a steadfast Hobbit smacking people around with my shield and keeping my dad alive(an overleveled Dwarf red Hunter who often struggled solo) was very entertaining. The Brawler is awesome to me, because I had only recently learned about Helm Hammerhand and Tulkas, and that made me instantly fall in love with the fantasy of the Brawler. Now, when I get the chance to play LOTRO, I run around punching the daylights out of people with my Noldor brawler...such a blast to play solo. It is nice having actual damage now!
Love your lists and discussion! I'm a bit out of the norm as for me, nothing beats minstrel heals for fun...and I can't stand Beorning...I've created and deleted so many beornings, just can't get into it. Lotro has something for everyone though, which is part of the beauty of the game! :) Nice collab, fun listening to you both hash out your favorites!
If you're in leveling content, Beorning is extremely fun and tanky and very very durable in solo. In groups, it is those things too, but exceedingly boring unless you're doing speed-clear (which I don't enjoy) at levels below 50. Beorning can do solo dungeons 10 or more levels higher than their level. Blue line is insane for survival, but even red line is ok. If you don't enjoy roflstomping things way over your level with ease (which is valid. Feeling way op isn't always fun) the class isn't great. I only have low level experience though (sub 60)
I agree with Aubrey about the Warden! Everyone I play with loves the class except me, lol. Disagree with you both about Cappie, tho. I love my Cappie even at solo play! Had fun watching this collab!
I'm so sad I'm just now seeing this comment, but thank you for understanding the Warden dislike. I'm always a lonely outcast so it's nice to not be alone 🙂🥲
I've been playing LotRO since the first beta (actually, I was activated during alpha). My first character, that I spent most of my beta time playing was the Loremaster. When the game went live, I spent most of my time on a Minstrel (Skjald of Rohan) and my Loremaster, but also a Guardian. Over time, they kept changing the Minstrel class, and the changes finally drove me away from the class, both because it no longer fit the character's concept, and because they started adding way too much of the glowy, flashy, inappropriate magic effects. Magic in Middle Earth is supposed to be SUBTLE. I was willing to let the Loremaster slide, as his abilities were depicted being more alchemical/nature manipulation. I didn't care much for the Warden, because the abilities are too quick. You press a button, and around a tenth of a second later, you have to press another one, ad nauseam. Other classes, the animations take a moment to play out, allowing you to think about what skill you want to fire next. With Wardens (and now Brawlers), they're just too clicky. Beyond that, I agree with a lot of your comments! Nice video.
Hi, the video is verry fun but ppl should use these opinions as a reference but not jump and pick a main class because someone else likes it. I like Guardian and LoreMaster the moust . 2 completly diferent classes ! And the gameplay feels completly diferent in bouth of them 🎉
Hi Louey, I'm no one to give advises to people, but if you struggle with hand pain with the warden, you should keybind abilities to E, F, R, Z, X, Q, shift E, etc. I play all games with those bids and it's day and night compared with the ctrl, alt binds. Of course you lose the system binds, but those are useless, imo.
For a while the Warden was my favorite class, but after running into higher level areas and experiencing more and more lag, the fun very quickly dropped off. Constantly missing out on combos because of little bits of lag really drags the enjoyment of the class down. On the other hand, I would have to disagree with both of you in that I really enjoy the Captain. I like having a lackey with me to bop stuff, and it plays very similarly to a paladin from other games, which appeals to me. A tanky warrior who can heal and buff is a lot of fun.
Love this video, watch you both religiously when im playing Lotro haha, Its interesting hearing your guys take. I always want too try Burglar or like, Runekeeper. But I always end up back with Beorning or Captain lol.
Maybe "some fun" would've been better than no fun. Fun video though! I'm a long time MMO gamer getting into lotro, and warden has been fun when I want to really focus and combo. I'm still deciding on a lazy solo main to experience the free content. 😊
I finally got back to the game with my wife after a long break, what the hell happened to the character creator?? Last time I was on you chose man of Rohan and clicked randomize and it would generate a man that looked like he was from Rohan and now it just makes a mess that looks like it's from shovelware.
I would just put Hunter liiiiiiiiiiiittle bit higher due to it being kind of unique long-range class(they could increase the max attack ranges a bit also) and the fact you can shoot enemies from safety and far away like you perfectly demonstrated in Moria ..maybe im bit biased since hunter was my first alt tho lol! and bonus fact it fits mounted combat really well! probably best class that makes most sense for mounted combat ..now it they would ever fix it so its not so laggy and awful thats another story...:/
I wish I could duck the warden shouting by 50%. I want to hear the shouting to give feedback that the skill has gone off but the shouting is too loud compared to the other skills
Finally one of your videos i wasn't bored all the way through. It was smart to have Aubrey on. Your knowledge and her looks and laughter are a good combination.
Hi. Captain at the lowest??? Oh come on! :D Even worse then super boring guardian and warden with those gambits combinatiins which i never remember? :D.... But yeah for rune-keeper! ;)

Red Line Burg are my fave!
This is awesome! I know I'm late but I started watching the weirdo lol but y'alls energy match so well!
over here watching the video playing a captain...have to admit it's pretty boring until you get the solo stance, then i find it very fun beyond that.
Minstrel and LM are my favorite.
Minis will always have a special place in my heart 💞
Yeah she seems to be confusing "button mashing" (the frantic pushing of random buttons that just seems to "work") with having to understand and parse several complex steps in order to do something very specific. I get not wanting to put that much thought into an MMO rotation, but it ain't button mashing.
"It's really flexible." That's exactly the point... :-) No other class can choose the way a fight goes quite as comprehensively. Instead of having 1 or 2 situational rotations, you have many, which means you have better survival and can be more effective in a wide variety of situations.
Can't believe you caved Louey. 😂
This is what happens when two people make a list, most things just average out in the middle. Eh.
that's when I started my first account I lost the log in info for was when they first did free trials..my main account is actually the third account I made because I lost and later recovered my second account and oddly enough...Loremaster what the first character I tried too..ended up with hunter as my main. Time was perfect because I had been upset with how wow was going at the time and a friend of mine at work was a big gamer and he was telling me i should try Lotro because I like crafting and his brother at the time was in a Kin who all did music so I made an account ...some time around late 2010 I believe.
hehe very entertaining video :D
idea for future collabs: making separate lists and then comparing? perhaps throw in a bingo board? XD
Bingo board is a great idea!! There is another collab with us coming out soon and it’s very different from this video so keep an eye out for it 👀👍
I have a captain main and i wouldn't played him for 12 years if it wouldn't be fun .
😅Sorry! We did agree on the very fun ranking for Burglar, but the cat said otherwise lol
red minstrel is op for leveling for a long time already. so yeah, its fun
Enjoyed the video thanks!
Oh Louey....You're hurting me in the feels now with the blatant Captain disrespect! ;)
Do you find being immortal fun? Roll a bear that is heavy yellow/leftover in blue and you’re a solo god.
Captain is my favorite or second favorite but if I didn't do group content it would be near the bottom
Minstrel S+ tier.
Agreed!!!
Every time I install Lotro and get slammed with ads and pay windows it just kills my motivation to play at all and I move on to another game :/
Every class when played properly is a button masher in this game because of animation canceling being king.
Me picking my first class yesterday and regretting it, I’ll give it another try 😅
Play the class you find fun and ignore these tiers. You'll enjoy the game better.
Thanks for watching! 👍
I chose guardian because it is the dwarfiest class in the game.
As a captin main i feel personaly attacked hahaha 🤣
😭😂 Sorry
And the gameplay feels completly diferent in bouth of them 🎉
Anyone who thinks Red Guard is a slow killer hasn’t played it since the rework
But I have though… 😅
Hi Louey, I'm no one to give advises to people, but if you struggle with hand pain with the warden, you should keybind abilities to E, F, R, Z, X, Q, shift E, etc. I play all games with those bids and it's day and night compared with the ctrl, alt binds. Of course you lose the system binds, but those are useless, imo.
I love yellow hunter
There are dozens of us!
I enjoyed your banter and listing. RuneKeepers rule!
RKs are great! I just got mine to level 92!
That was fun 😄
If you find champion boring, try the blue line, most engaging and fun by a Longshot
Love this video, watch you both religiously when im playing Lotro haha, Its interesting hearing your guys take. I always want too try Burglar or like, Runekeeper. But I always end up back with Beorning or Captain lol.
Beorning and Captains aren’t bad honestly. I’ve been grinding a captain myself lately lol. Thanks for watching!
Maybe "some fun" would've been better than no fun. Fun video though! I'm a long time MMO gamer getting into lotro, and warden has been fun when I want to really focus and combo. I'm still deciding on a lazy solo main to experience the free content. 😊
Strategic button mashing is very oxymoronic
Hunter is the best always.
wardens been awesome even at lower 1-20
I finally got back to the game with my wife after a long break, what the hell happened to the character creator??
Last time I was on you chose man of Rohan and clicked randomize and it would generate a man that looked like he was from Rohan and now it just makes a mess that looks like it's from shovelware.
Yellow champion is my favourite! I don't understand how can people play single target heroes! xD
Yellow champion, blue hunter and warden are in my opinion the "most modern feeling"
Awesome! 🥰
😄
I disagree, my shield bash makes it the most fun! lol
what is "very fun" about beorn ? to be in a monoton bear form and spam skills who are 99% the same design ? no difference nothing.
Meta > Fun what is this ranking...?
I lost interest in the lore master when their cc was nerfed.
Aubrey is not that weird, did someone tell you that you were, perhaps while growing up? Family prejudice? You don't have to say of course.
The weirdness is in my personality 😅😃 What can I say?
Finally one of your videos i wasn't bored all the way through. It was smart to have Aubrey on. Your knowledge and her looks and laughter are a good combination.
Louey, you dog....😅
Hi. Captain at the lowest??? Oh come on! :D Even worse then super boring guardian and warden with those gambits combinatiins which i never remember? :D.... But yeah for rune-keeper! ;)
She says "like" way to much in one sentence.
It's an ongoing gimmick lol
