I got Abeka arithmetic and TGTB Math 1 for my daughter, ended up with using just TGTB it is so enough and my daughter loves it so much. Different approach completely, hard to compare it. I feel Good and beautiful teaches how to like Math and really feel it through for a child.

I was wanting to try another math curriculum, just for the heck of it. However, I’m gonna save my money & stick with TGTB.
We’re on number placement with my kindergartner, & I felt there wasn’t enough of this lesson for her. So I just started adding my own reviews, I have the ten base blocks/sticks, so I put them to use.
Curriculum is our guide. Thank you for those comparison flip-through!

You were my inspiration to use Abeka and TGATB years ago!!! I still use these alongside each other with my kids!!! Sometimes I just use one or the other when life gets crazy, but I love them both…..they are amazing in their own ways! My kids are strong readers, and have insane mental math for their ages, 100% due to these amazing curriculums. TGATB is obviously very popular, but I wouldn’t have ever found Abeka if it weren’t for you ❤ thank you for all you do!!!

I use this combination, but I consider Abeka our math backbone and TGATB the math supplement. This view works well considering the amount of lessons they include (170 vs 120 lessons).
My child really loves math. And while I agree with your frustrations 100%, TGATB math provides really great enrichment to his favorite subject. And I love that the Abeka circles back so nothing is forgotten. 😊

My daughter is using TGTB math 2 this year and she and I do really well with it. The lessons are short, beautiful, and simple. Abeka looks so fun with the graphics too!

I wanted TGATB to work for us but it’s too teacher intensive for our family. It’s such a beautiful program, and simple to follow.

Thanks so much for the walk-thru. I really love how TGATB looks, and have debated switching over to them for next year, but we have been doing Abeka's K5 this year, so their format/graphics remaining consistent from one grade to the next is definitely a perk, at least with the math. Honestly, I think the extra (donkey)work Abeka has would be helpful for my kids, especially the one who is inclined to just do the minimum to get onto the next thing without really understanding it. ;-)

Thanks for this flip through! We currently use Masterbooks for Math and I’m looking to switch to something less gentle with more review. Abeka Arithmetic 1 looks like it is covering the same material as Masterbooks Math Lessons 2, which is helpful to be aware of! TGATB looks great too!

If you want your child to have a more advanced math curriculum, Abeka is for you. I know some feel it is teacher intensive because it doesn’t include a lesson per se with new material, but I consider it great for independent work because of all of the review on each page. Highly recommend!

My daughter prefers good and beautiful. The Abeka she dislikes so much even the reading program. She has learned to read so well with good and beautiful. I know every kid is different so I’m thankful for all the options we have out there. I love the good and beautiful too. Open and go is for me because I don’t like the traditional classroom setting and Charlotte mason is so nice. Learning is more than just work pages and sitting down. I agree with Carlotta mason about textbooks being tedious.

Love the comparison!! We use TGTB and are moving into 1st grade next year for one of my kiddos. I do love the manipulative box. It drives me crazy how the pages come off the spiral 😂 but overall we are enjoying the math curriculum.

I legit just today was comparing these two exact curriculums and just didn’t know what to do. We currently use TGTB and love it but she needs more and asks for more. Never in my brain did I think to use Abeka as a supplement! That’s genius! Thanks for the flip through and the idea. Do you ever use the tests and timed worksheets that come in a separate book?

What are the downsides to Abeka math? I know you are switching away from tgtb so I’m curious why not switch to Abeka? We are still researching what math to switch to (from tgtb) but I haven’t really seen many opinions on Abeka’s math. We have really enjoyed recommendations from your channel so I think our styles are similar so just wondering on any input you may have 😊 thank you for sharing. Your videos are all so helpful

Nothing is wrong with it. It’s just not my style of instruction for teaching math foundations. They use procedural math and not conceptual math - basically they teach how to do solve a problem but not why. They only show one way to solve it vs procedural shows multiple ways. But I like it as a supplement.

Have you decided what math program your going to do? My husband and I will be homeschooling for the first time. I'm currently trying to set up a curriculum. I am happy that I found your channel.
