    Hi, installed it just fine but how can you make the storage drive (in my case 10tbHDD) sleep when not in use?

    Your advice? OMV vs CasaOS... which is best for what? Differences, similarities, use-cases for each? It all gets a bit confusing sometimes.

      CasaOS is easier to use. OMV they are started to make it harder to use.

      Thank you. Does CasaOS have similar features and is it just as safe and reliable?
      Does CasaOS have features that are better than OMV or unique? @@TechnoDadLife

      The best of both worlds is to Install Casa alongside OMV. I have run into no conflicts. Instead of using the debian command line, it is much simpler to use OMV to maintain my raid and move files amongst various other servers for backup. If you are just wanting something simple to run docker apps then Casa is very easy to use. For setting up raids, monitoring drives, connecting to other servers, then OMV is great and easy to use. CasaOS does not have a shiny easy way to set up various raids and you will need to use the Debian command line to to so. I see Jeff has a video on this. This is why I have both softwares installed. If you chose to do both and are setting up a raid, then install OMV first and get your raid up and running. You will need to know where your raid drive is when setting up CasaOS apps. OMV placed my raid drive under the directory /srv/ and gave it a long name like dev-disk-by-uuid-5c2eeef7-116c-4957-8428-cd205efd1bd2. In terms of Casa being safe. I am not sure and going to test this. I do have my internet ports locked down through my router as well as through OMV. I found out the hard way one day when I fired up plex and all my files were gone. Someone or some bot was able to get to my directories and delete my files.

    As I get older, my main concern has changed to power efficiency. So my dream server would have redundancy, power for Plex and some VMs, but do it while keeping the energy bills down!

    • @TechnoDadLife
      @TechnoDadLife  8 месяцев назад

      I agree on all those things. My equipment is getting smaller and more power efficient. The computer I used for this demo, while old, only draws 15 watts. All the rest of my equipment, I switched to mini PCs which tend to use energy efficient laptop chips.

    I was thinking of using an old laptop for "CASA OS". How do I backup everything? Would it be possible to use the backup on different hardware if the laptop no longer works?

    • @TechnoDadLife

      You could back it up to another computer usind syncthing.

    What is the purpose of CasoOS? Why not just install Debians GUI and install Plex and Home Assistant?

    CasaOS looks excellent but like someone else here I cannot get plex to run. Upon launching Plex I get "No Access" message. I cannot find ifo about how and where to fix this permission problem. Would be great to get a more detailed tutorial

    This looks awesome Jeff. I am using OMV6 on my NAS i built and set up using your vids. Could i just install casaOS and everything like my files and RAID all be there like with OMV?

    • @TechnoDadLife
      @TechnoDadLife  8 месяцев назад +1

      I haven't tried it out yet, but my feeling is all files and raid will still be there, but you might have to redo your docker containers.

    • @Jc-ke4hg
      @Jc-ke4hg 3 месяца назад +1

      I just did this and CasaOS has it built in to pull over all your OMV installed docker/compose apps into CasaOS. I cannot stand OMV compose and running CasaOS and OMV together is the best of both worlds. CasaOS is wonky though in acknowledging the raid. I figure they will fix this later on. I am not screwing with my drives through CasaOs.

      @@TechnoDadLife lol. It was great. Your "typical phlegmatic personality" is also great. I've been a long time viewer, since the beginning. I chuckle when you switch it up. You be you. When you figure out how to get paid for advertising for an open source software (other than RUclips clicks), I want in on that.... lol. Cheers.
