I took a 9 year old Dell Optiplex 3020 Micro (free) and got a 4T 2.5 disk from Amazon $100 for this project - fun! This was my first run at OMV and Docker, worked out fine.

Finally abandoning my old Windows 7 Media Server. Built NAS with AMD R5 5600G 32 GB w/4-8TB drives using OMV 6.9.11-3. Any chance you'll demonstrate how to install Plex in a container on OMV any time soon? Your OMV 6 install video was extremely helpful but scratching my head on the next step for installing Plex.
An old laptop is ideal for this. You get a monitor, keyboard and ups in one unit.

great stuff, I had OMW6 install on my Promox box as a VM, so it was good to follow through with adding the 'omv-extras' 'compose' installs and other tips. Really enhances the experience. My only 'questionable' would be using Fing to find your IP. I found that program invasive, soz. I would a run a command in the shell to find the IP. But a good thumbs up and I subscribed, have a great holiday!
Agreed. You could probably find this by logging into your router and viewing attached devuces.
OMV Still gives the system IP upon launch, I'm unsure why it didn't for him.

I had a quick question about OMV on Raspberry Pi 5. I know the product is new. I am planning on replacing my Pi3B+ OMV 6 (64-Bit) with a Pi 5. But there isn't any documentation on OMV and Pi 5.

I think it would be better to get a mini PC, rather than a Pi 5. A mini PC actually costs less (when you include everything that you need to buy for the Pi) and is generally faster and just as efficient. Here is just one example:amzn.to/3NBfvx6. best home server is Armbian running on Andriod TV box 40 dollars with OMV running headless connecting a USB to powered hub and external hard drives, and you have the cheapest NAS.

You should name your TV box, because they are all so different. I tried to convert one a few years ago. You have to be really careful on which chipset set your box has.

TIP: Try to use Ventoy instead of writing iso on USB drive.
my system won't boot on initial reboot after install, it says Start PXE over IPv4
then gives PXE-E18 Server response timeout, then attempts same thing via IPv6 and gets same error.
Ive tried installing other nas software but none of the install images will even boot
figured it out, had to disable secure boot

The easiest way to make a snap shot of the whole thing is to install in a virtual machine. You can alos keep your media disks separate from your install disk, so you would only have to reinstall if you borked everything.

6:21 the system showed ip address but it was ipv6. Probably it should show both
Your computer is defaulting to ipv6 instead of ipv4. Login and type 'ip a' or 'ifconfig'.

Hi, thanks for the video. I followed all the way until the wetty and openUI part and then got an error . SSH: COULD NOT RESOLVE HOSTNAME XXXX: NAME DOES NOT RESOLVE. I am a beginner of beginners so please help!!!

maybe the dhcp lease did not pull, any error message?
Here are the parts that did not work:
1. At 12:49 WeTTy gives me a: "Permission denied, please try again" Error. Login works on the Server, but not on WeTTy.
2. At 18:43 Enable Home Directories gave me this error Message :Can't share user home directories because they are not enabled.
3. At 19:25 The new Share is avalable but needs a username and password to access it.

Hello. This is a question about openmediavault. If you reinstall the system, will the disks that were made in the RAID1 array remain or do you need to clean it again and make ext4 RAID1???
It depends on how you do it. If they are not your system disks, you can remount them without erasing them.
Hey Jeff, have you installed OMV 6 on Raspberry Pi 5 yet? If so, does it work without issues? Can we just use your previous guide from a while back (for Pi 4)? Thanks very much
RPI5 is running on new Debian (D12) while OMV6 is based on "oldstable" (D11) - so either you will find D11 for RPi5 or will wait for OMV7
How do you fix OMV6 with RAID5 having a 1 disk failure. I'm using mdadm? Shall I format from OMV6 the drive in question?

You probably have more than one container with the same name. Check that out first. Also post more info to the OMV forums.
Hi can you help me this ? 1-After installation is completed should i wait for system to reboot by itself or i shut down and restart pc by myself ? Because it seems it takes long time to restart after take out usb and click continue to finish installation. 2- in first boot to omv i can type username admin but i can not type anything for password (openmediavault) . It does take a few minutes, but after waiting and it doesn't reboot, just hit the power button.

How to expose it via internet? I want to have a web server accessible in the internet.
I don't recommend that for most people you first have to make sure you understand the security risk...
