I don't know why, but I guess it is not uncommon to exonerate co-accused belonging to the same family as the main accused. In other legislations for example, wives (or husbands) can easily get away with murders committed by their other halves if they have covered up for them. My point is that justice doesn't necessarily retain charge against family members who haven't spilled the beans right away. It is a way to recognize that family bounds can also induce a form of coercion that are difficult to escape. My two cents on that, I'm not a lawyer ;)

Her attorney told her even if you don't believe Larry is guilty, just lie so the judge will give you pity and give you a lesser sentence. We can conclude in prison she is still claiming Larry is innocent. I'm just waiting for her to get out after 4.5 years and start a petition to get Larry out. Your last sentences!!! This is SUCH an important part of resisting cult recruitment, and many people don't realize this! Cult leaders use something called the "foot-in-the-door" phenomenon, where the demands they make start off very small and seemingly harmless. Then, little by little, the demands become more extreme until, the next thing you know, a normal person is committing themselves to behaviors they never imagined having.
So as you said, it's important to question everything, never take information at its surface value. Think critically, ESPECIALLY if it's information you agree with or really want to believe. Confirmation bias is a quick tool cult leaders use, and even "the best of us" fall privy to confirmation bias.
If anyone says they are forever invincible to cults, they're wrong. That's not meant to attack or criticize anybody, it's just a simple fact of being a human being. Ironically enough, believing you're immune to cult recruitment might actually make you more vulnerable because a cult leader will now lean into that information in ways you weren't anticipating.
The psychology behind cult behavior is rich and SO fascinating!!!

Hulu is not subscriber-friendly for customers who subscribe to the ad-supported version of the channel. Commercials are much louder than the programming. Many subscribers have complained about the problem, but Hulu has yet to fix it.

I have always paid for no commercials on Hulu but other services I have used with commercials/cheaper have a similar volume issue. I am so used to having Hulu, I am not canceling any time soon, and my family uses it, but I can't say it's my favorite service. I watched 2 of these 3 episodes and gotta say it was nice to not have commercial interruption but not sure if I can stomach the 3rd episode.

But in the back of my head I remind myself those people were weak, compromised individuals. Which is exactly why they were his targets.

Maybe you should watch the documentary before making comments revealing you didn't watch the documentary. He had access to a limo, he had lots of money, he'd spend a lot of money on the supermarkets, he lived in a multi-million dollar apartment in Manhattan (when he wasn't living in the dorm) and had photographs with many famous leaders. He also had video of the former NYPD chief throwing him a surprise party. To a teenager, he doesn't look like a loser. To a teen (and perhaps to many adults), he looks like a well-connected rich guy who could get you places.

Absolutely anyone can be manipulated into a cult. Some of the strongest and most resilient have been tricked in some of the most shocking ways. Joining a cult has nothing to do with being weak and everything to do with a narcissistic, soulless man taking advantage of people's vulnerabilities, no matter how small.
Being roped into a cult is simply a matter of one who did not get an opportunity to think critically, to carefully consider every angle of their situation.
Ironically, it's that exact same lack of critical thinking that would enable someone to leave a comment such as yours.

the storytelling is just horrible. theyre like building to a story and boom pivoted to another entirely different topic told by another person. it's like an ADHD person is directing this thing or something, like, [SPOILER] here is what happen to this student, but ANYWAY, he is accusing this policeman of something see this this guy is corrupt police, aand ANYWAY this is what another student's story, BUT here is his old friend thinks about him, AND THEN he is accusing the students of breaking his things, BUT here is another student's parents etc etc. even any average netflix documentaries are WAY better than this. who greenlit this?? and is the production team addled with ADHD or something? i have a very strong suspicion that at least 65% of the production squad is suffering from ADHD.
