Honestly I think it's great what he's trying to do with solitary confinement. I also understand the issues people have with it. It's a very fine line both ways. But it does make sense to try to give people hope and rehabilitation. I know what isolation does to my mental health so I can't imagine if I was someone that struggled with aggression and anger by using violence and having someone lock me up in solitary confinement with those type of thoughts and not having any kind of Hope or help. Some of the correctional officers shouldn’t be wearing those uniforms, when I was 19 years old I was arrested for a suspended license on a cracked windshield which had it replaced. But the court clerk never removed it from the system. I was arrested during holiday weekend. I was told by the corrections officer to pick up my mattress and blankets to place on the bunk outside the cells. The officer said that I was too slow so he going to teach me a lesson by locking me up in a solitary cell for the whole four days. What made me hates the court even more was, during an arraignment I showed the judge the receipt and she asked me why am I I’m her court wasting her time. I was still in handcuffs and in Orange jail suit. I was so upset I told the female judge perhaps I enjoy watching her humiliating me. I said I wrongly jailed thrown in a solitary confinement for four days and she’s asked me what am I doing in her court room. So I told her this is how you get people in the systems a vicious cycle that drives people to go out and do bad things because of the corrupt government. The truth is a lot of these gaurds treat the prisoners terribly.

As a society, we need to decide the purpose of prison. Is it to punish those that commit crimes? Is it to protect our communities? Is it to rehabilitate those that commit crimes? I don’t think we quite know.

Prison is only going to cause them more problems that could be avoided.

You're literally creating a more dangerous monster than they were prior. We all make our choices but when you treat someone like an animal that's what you're going to get. I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of negative feedback on what I'm saying but I'm just trying to see this from my own experiences. I've had run into with the law for different reasons. I struggled with drugs and alcohol and got arrested a few times and I witnessed firsthand what solitary confinement did to people I knew. It changes a person and darkens their minds. The devil can have his way with you even more when you're alone in a dark place
You make good points about isolation and hey I've had a weight loss and gain issue and journey myself!
I was abused (sexually, physically, and emotionally) as a child. Depending on the abuse type, the abusers were friends of fam, strangers, family members, cops. I’m 50 years old now and I’m still upset and bitter about the experienced I went through. I enlisted in the US Army served 12 years with honorable discharges. I couldn't imagine doing time in a place like rikers Island. And I know there's people in there that absolutely deserve to be there. But then there's the ones who don't deserve it. Prison isn't for everyone. It really isn't. Even if you are considered a criminal or have committed crimes, prison doesn't help everyone. Some of those people need a different kind of help. Prison is only going to cause them more problems that could be avoided.
There should be a separate prison for non-violent inmates. Mixing them with serial killers and homicidal maniacs isn't helping

@@koiko.k4801 Any number above 0 is too much and even falsely accusing of someone of rape without them being convicted ruins their lives theres been quite a few cases where its happened to athletes and they lost sponsors and such or d1 athletes losing their scholarships.
Diane Sawyer is a world-class human.
“If you can survive Rikers Island, you can survive anything”. Period. I did 4 months because my family and I were estranged because of my sexual orientation. I was terrified of being SAd. But by the grace of god, I made it out alive and unharmed. AMKC.
The conditions in there are appalling to say the least. The ONLY good thing I can say is that they provide substance abuse treatment while in custody so long as you’re not in on a felony (an exception will be made if you’re doing less than a year sentence) and as long as you’re not going to prison. If youre in a program on the outside, they keep you on whatever dose you were taking unless you’re going to prison and in that case they’ll do a rapid taper. If you come in on illegal drugs or RX opioids, they will put you on Librium and 30/40mgs of methadone and slowly taper you off from that every other day they drop 5 mgs.
over half the people in that prison are incarcerated for non violent crimes and you people in the comments are speaking terribly, it's ridiculous y'all are talking about starving them and executing them? They're still people and i'm sure not everyone in there is a savage like what you people are assuming.
Maya Williams Most of those people have killed people rape people and much worse.
no, again LITERALLY majority of the people there have committed NON-violent crimes. Which means majority of the people there are not murders or rapists
kiera davis but they could have a history of doing stuff like that
Canyon Johnson no problem kid
Canyon Johnson "then don't live here" fyi y'all stole this land. It wasn't supposed to be -white peoples land- in the first place but ok 👌🏼 LMFAO.
Being from Norway this really shocks me. America.. your prison system is a much worse crime than the prisoners themselves. Treating people worse than animals is not the solution.
@@insomniac5506 Yes, that's in fact the solution. Just look up some statistics.
Edit: The other guy deleted his comment, I'm not replying to Robin.
You're a weirdo who has been lopsided by liberal cruelty .
It's terrible the system here and it is proven that more people who have been to prison come out worse than when they went in which makes them even more of a danger to society only a small handful can still function in society and continue with life . Where I live in the US iv only been in one correctional facility due to a mock trial internship and it was depressing and dark on the inside but beautiful and well taken of on the outside its weird .
@@Ratok1 no its not but okay dummy
@@Pretzelleiii I wasn't replying to Robin, the other dude just deleted his comment, but ok.
About 40% of those inmates should not be in there
There's absolutely NO resocialization in these places
14 month stretch here. Was very happy about the transfer. Texas was good!
Fun fact- if you are left alone in solitary confinement for at least a week, you can loose control of your emotions. So this anger they have must be from being alone.
Micheal Mell :3 i mean look at that foot ball player to hung him self it changes people
Dude I think after 3 days in solitary I would lose my fucking mind
so wat,,,,, the victoms have loose control to,, fuck this crooks, punish them hard en long
