Another tip for really cold weather is to bring along a second battery. Batteries can struggle in cold weather so keeping one in a warm pocket and swapping between them can really help prolong your shooting time if you really wanna be out in the snow that long
Pretty great timing on this, after a long week of delivering everyone their black Friday purchases I just want to go for a walk and shoot photos but it's been quite gray. Thank you for this.
See, I'd love to shoot at night, especially now that it's all lit up for the holidays and it's dark earlier. It's also good practice for a style of photography I haven't done much of. But it's cold as shit.
It’s an extra battery that can get cold, but-in cold and overcast weather a smaller flash can add some contrast and a sense of keylight, bc the light isn’t as bright a smaller flash can compete. I use a simple wireless trigger and stick to manual on the flash. Bruises the scene faster if you’re doing street but shots are that much more candid as people aren’t used to strobes anymore
Great video :) Was in Warsaw myself throughout last November and could perfectly relate. Also loved to see these familiar places n YT, instead of the usual footage from Times Square or Roppongi 😎
I gambled on a few cheap (but not awful) digicams, just so I can have something in my pocket. And I started just shooting whatever while walking around in the cold. A lot of misses, a lot of just trying to figure out how to shoot something with so little control, but also really fun to see what I can to get away with. My main camera is a 5dm4 and i dont want that over all my layers just to walk around. So just something on my pocket while my hands are warming up that I can pull out has been fun just to keep the juices flowing. To the point that I am now gambling on a slightly more expensive compact digital camera.
Two details: 1.) I use golden hour as a crutch. 2.) I set my Fujifilm X-T5 to shoot in B&W so that I'd try to pay more attention to all the things you mentioned around 2:30 .
1:36 Thank you, I love Oreos. Also, I live in California so my photography is always colorful, its actually overstimulating and annoying. So I tend to gravitate toward cold grey colorless art...
Greetings from Warsaw and thank you for a useful piece of information :) I simply hate winters here, when it's already dark at 3 pm and struggle with pulling myself out of the apartment even for a simple walk or grocery shopping.
Thank you so much for the video! I've barely shot anything during the past month or so, because everything is gray and it's getting dark pretty early. And neither my Canon nor my Olympus can shoot in low-light conditions well. But I'll definitely try some of your advice when I finally force myself to go out and shoot something. 😀😀
How to get good at shooting at any weather and lighting conditions: Step 1: get addicted to photography and bite yourself in the ass every time you forget your camera
Amazing video ❤ I immediately knew it’s Poland even before you said it and read your bio xd it can get really depressing here. I found your video because I’m struggling to take interesting photos at this time of year :( living in a smallish town doesn’t help. I wish I could live in Warsaw, so many opportunities for night street photography. Maybe I will come up with something but rn I’m kinda bummed out
Its funny, i actually love rainy gray days. Its my favorite weather vibe, and its not even close. My lack of gloomy photography is mostly due to lack of technical skill so this is a great video anyway!
Great video Hunter! One of my favorite quotes is from Greg Fraser, cinematographer for Dune and The Batman. "People respond to atmospherics, we've all been in a fog."
Habe 2 Minuten die deutsche Synchronisierung geschaut und mich gewundert, warum es so kacke klingt. Und dann gesehen, dass das Video auf englisch ist :O
@@huntercreatesthings yes definitely. A german RUclipsr recently made a rant video about it 😬 But I guess RUclips will ad a settings for this soon. Most of the people are perfectly fine with english :)
As an amateur photographer I have learned that if the weather is rubbish the best thing to do is to embrace the rubbishness in the photos
Its so interesting to see how people see scenarios differently. A wet, grey City sounds so perfect for me instead of sunny summer

For sure - luckily the D750 could run on an old AA if it needed to, but for mirrorless, at LEAST 2 batteries is essential

Thank you for your hard work and good luck for Christmas!
You brought the ladle outside the house AHHHH 😂😂😂❤❤❤
It comes with me everywhere 😂
@@huntercreatesthingsthe dedication 👏🏼
I find that some of the best photos I have taken have been when it’s raining

Gotta get those layers on!

Loving the 2:1 Crop.
Glad you appreciate!

Hunter has quickly become one of my favorite creators.
Thank you so much!
@huntercreatesthings nay sir, thank YOU

Grass is always greener 😂 I could use some socal sun rn
I really needed this! Thank you! We have very few bright days so looking for some color, lights, reflections or just leaning into the greys it helps.
Glad I could help!

The editing quality of your videos are definitely improving. Keep it up!
Thanks! A lot of work went into this one haha
You call that bad weather? Mate that's lovely!
golden hour photography feels like cheating because there is no sport in taking a photograph of something that is obviously and inarguably beautiful
this is why i struggle so much with landscape photography, people who are good at it are so impressive to me!

Never, EVER leave the house without it!
Where I live we have eight months of overcast a year. If you’re only a fair weather photographer - you’re going to need to find another hobby…
Intently watching the weather part of this vid as if I don't live in Miami where the weather is extreme sunlight or hurricane with no inbetween
You can never be too prepared
thank you.
Ven y Hill vibes at 03.55 😅
"Co pan robi?"
Great video, thank you for the inspiration
Thank you!
Great video just discovered your channel. Im sure I’m going to enjoy a few more of your videos! Just subscribed.
Great ideas, thanks! It's cold here in Europe.
Came to learn, stayed because of the spoon.
Great video Hunter! Thank you for sharing. may I ask how you do to upload in different languages? Very cool feature!
RUclips now has auto dubbing, so I don't even need to do anything! Hope the translations are ok?
Not me watching this at night and while on the sofa… 😂
🔥🔥🔥
Spoon Man, Spoooooooon Maaaaaan !
i didn't know people didn't like overcast

Thanks! The second video I ever posted to this channel is all about how to take interesting photos in a small town, you might find it useful!
yea in Poland it's black and white 90% of year
Great update. My film emulsionsof choice for cold, wet winter environments are Ferrania P30 during day and Cinestill 800T at night.
Yes Man! 🤩
Finally something for polish photographers :)
the spoon mic and background music reminds me of fleccas
Which dslr are u using with Battery grip? Nice Video Btw Always Insprinational
Thanks! It's a D750
TURN OFF THE TV HONEY, HUNTER JUST DROPPED A NEW VIDEO AHHH 🗣🗣🗣

Had weather is the best for roaming the streets
00:23 - I think you can make the best "grey-ed photos" at this time :)
Did I hear "Co Pan robi???" in 3:55
Tak
I'm half watching these videos, because I legitimately enjoy them and find them useful
but also because of the wooden spoon microphone
It’s good for bnw
ey man, nice video! what camera are you holding at 3:33 ? is that a nikon d750 ? thanks
Thanks, yep it's a D750
Great video Hunter! One of my favorite quotes is from Greg Fraser, cinematographer for Dune and The Batman. "People respond to atmospherics, we've all been in a fog."
Love that!
2 seconds in.......are you in Germany?
probably in Warsaw, Poland
Poland!
Przepraszam, ale co pan robi!?
@michalpieprz robiłem zdjęcia 🏃

It's a new feature so I wasn't sure how I felt about it - I don't think it should be on by default!

Why add the color grading with the white balance tho this is much better to do in post with curves etc.
You can and I usually tweak in post as well but if you can't see it in the viewfinder/screen you don't shoot with it it mind
