Glad you found this video! I’ve seen that R model rolling around quite a bit the last few years. And that red and white Pete looks great, especially with that trailer with the red frame and Dayton rims
I miss hearing them everyday! In the 80’s and 90’s Mack’s pulled everything in the forest products industry and construction. The new Volvo built Mack’s are just not as tough! When the last of the current Granites go to the scrap yard an R or DM will haul them there!
@@wisconsinbigrigs8427 I worked for my Dad out of high school at his pine post and pole peeling yard. We used a trucker to haul all the chips,bark and fuel chips. His whole fleet were R models and in 87 he bought 10 shiny new RW713 Superliners. They all had sleepers with E6 350’s and 9 speeds. They were sharp. I loved the look of the square hood!
The E6 350’s still had a pretty wide torque range and the 9 speed was perfect for our area. Central VA has rolling hills and a lot of 55 mph 2 lane highways. The 9 gave you a lower gear to start with, much better than a 10 speed.
There's a guy down the road from me with an R model dump truck that he uses pretty frequently. Now that there's some local roadwork going on I see him fairly frequently, always working the truck hard. Good to see!
That old R model sounds like it’s got the 6 spd mud stick probably the 300 em7 drove many of them never forget that sound and have to let the revs drop with 5and 6 spd
