Seems about right since My Mack is an ‘83. Funny how those sounds and smells bring back so many memories.

My dad had an old Mack with a self loader on it. Thing was a beast and pulled the trailer with a log skidder fully loaded with logs too

My dad use to stop by the house for a few minutes every morning at 3:30 - 4:00 AM with the oil truck he drove. The company garage was 5 minutes from our home. It was very cold out and still dark of course. Every day I didn’t have school I was by his side working with him on the oil truck. He drove # 11 a big Mack LMU Cabover for years then # 17 a White 3000 cabover for years, # 32 a White 9000 finally the last truck he drove was # 37 an Autocar 10 wheeler all of the trucks were all brand new except # 11 the Mack LMU cabover.
The memories I have have are priceless to me, they would be to anyone who loves trucks, there childhood and there Dad. My Dad of course is long gone now but the memories I cherish live on.
I consider myself very fortunate to have those memories of my dad and childhood and if truck.
I went on later on in life to build one of the largest and well known tanker trucking companies of all time.
Every morning I laid in bed and listen to him stopping and then leaving 5 to 10 minutes later. I loved the sound of his truck stopping listening to the air brakes and the sound of the engine leaving going through a few gears.
My years growing up from the age of 5 or 6 through 11 or 12 I would lay in bed it still being dark out during the very cold winter mornings.
He drove a NYC heating oil truck for a living all of his working life.
