Yobba Rays on... Blu-rays on... the classic sci-fi puppet adventure is back, and looking better than ever!
Believed lost for many years, Space Patrol was finally recovered in 1997 in the form of 16mm prints (and two surviving 35mm copies). Initially released on VHS, a DVD collection followed a few years later, now deleted and considered a desirable collectors' item (copies have been known to change hands online for upwards of £300).
Remastering technology has advanced considerably since those first masters were produced, and although Space Patrol remains lost in its native 35mm format (two episodes aside), it's still possible to get noticeably better results from the surviving 16mm prints.
Using equipment worthy of Professor Haggerty, the episodes have been remastered to improve the overall quality and clarity of the image. The result is the best possible restoration given the limitations of the source material - Space Patrol is never going to look better than this.
This Blu-ray-only release is available in limited edition retro packaging, designed to resemble a set of imaginary Space Patrol annuals (don't go looking for them on eBay - they were never published!)
And some good news for fans around the world... Space Patrol is region free and will play on your Blu-ray machine wherever you are on Earth, Mars or Venus!

Network's dedication to finding obscure vintage shows deserves applause.
I loved this show and am thrilled to be able to relive these episodes!
Oh boy I remember this as a kid in early 1960’s. It used to be scary for some reason! Pleased to see it again.
Far out ... finally those creepy robots going past that gagged door. My two two elder Brothers used to push me in front of the TV screen during that scene, knowing that it scared the hell out of me. Bastards! I'm pushing 60 now, and the memory lives on. Thanks for the post!
Looking back why did they have to march back and forward and not just stand by the station?
@@colinp2238 ..... Cheers mate :) It still spooks me. Older brothers can be such utter bastards.
As a kid, I used to have nightmares about that landing robot marching back and forth in between those shark tooth doors.
I have both the DVD and Blu-ray sets, and the Blu-ray version definitely has superior image quality. I sometimes look at the box set and think to myself that never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Space Patrol would be released on Blu-ray!
As a side note, J. Michael Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5) stated that Space Patrol was one of his favourite shows back in the day.
As a child this programme freaked me out but I was so drawn to it. It is so good to know that there are other appreciators like myself out there. Thankyou.
I thought the same as a child, now 50 years later I have redicovered it and it has brought back memories.
"Thanks to all at Network T.V. ..bring back to life this most beautiful t.V. series ..me and my brother are in our late "50's and have been watching the blu-ray box set for the last few nights now ..we find it brings us peacefulness ( The inner-child)
Thank you!!
d 🤕💜🇪🇺
Aww, wonderful! I'm a child again. Yes it was a bit scary in parts. Always loved the music at the end. Good old days.
As a kid I was fascinatined by this show. It fired my imagination but now my Yobba rays are all but burnt out. I noticed how immaculate Larry Dart's trouser crease was.
That made me 🤣 🤣 🤣 LMAO....Yobba Rays on...!!!!
Extreme dedication, thank you for allowing us to revisit our youth.
Thank you network for bringing these old shows out much appreciated can't wait to buy it relive old memories
Oh wow; I thought the masters were too far gone to ever warrant anything more than a DVD release - this may not be perfect but I'm really stoked for it.
I am so excited about this release! Thank you for making it region free!
My favorite all time show from the 1960's l was about 14 then, now 68 years old.
My favourite from the 60's too, what are some of your other favourites?
Hey thank you very much for showing this I was a kid grown up in Hawaii I remember this I believe I was about 9 at the time😊
You're welcome, time flies
Literally the best news I've heard in ages! Thanks so much for doing this, this is one of my favourite shows of all time and the restoration looks excellent :D
I simply CAN'T BELIEVE that this exists! I told some of my good friends from LONG ago about this program. We were ALL BIG fans of the Supermarionation series. However, they thought that I was making up this show. I couldn't remember much about it but I recalled that the "music" was early electronic or quasi industrial. I also remember that the "heroes" were from Earth, Mars and Venus. MOST OF ALL, I remembered the "Galasphere" space ship which I described as a gyroscope. I guess that I DIDN'T lose my mind after all. I recall that this program was DARKER than the Supermarionation series. However, it was entertaining for a young boy of 6 years. I've got another DVD set to order for myself!
I remember watching this on channel 2 in Australia when I was a child. I could never remember the name or much else about the show apart from the futuristic city and the ostrich like alien. I'm glad to finally see it again!
It was years ahead of it's time
It sure was
Thank you for the care you extend to all your releases.
There was an American show called "Space Patrol" a few years before this. Completely different, but maybe that's why (as far as I know) this was never shown on TV in the US, while all the other shows of this type, starting with Supercar, were.
In the US it was renamed Planet Patrol.
Although Space Patrol always trailed in the wake of the more glamorous Fireball XL5, I thought Larry Dart, Slim and Husky walked and moved more realistically than Steve Zodiac et al. Also, Space Patrol showed the only example I ever saw, of a puppet fist fight! I'll keep a lookout for it.
This program aired on TV in the LA area in the early 60s. It is likely to be one of the inspirations for Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek.
Certainly the character of Husky bares more than a passing resemblance to the character of Spock who, in early treatments, was described as "alien, possibly from Mars". In addition Roddenberry wanted a world where people of other races and other planets work together. A cornerstone of both series.
Agreed - but the Spock prototype is named Slim not Husky. Husky is the Martian who is always hungry. Slim is the pointy eared Venusian who is very logical.
@@wofwof007 Yeah, that's what Im talking about. The character of Spock went through quite a bit of changing before he ever appeared on camera. They tried a dark red makeup at first because Roddenberry was leaning heavily towards him being a Martian. The concept of the planet Vulcan wasn't even in place until the show was in production and the first couple of episodes had aired. If you remember the first two episodes Spock appears in, his manner is very sharp and he is shouting orders at everyone. Roddenberry originally conceived him as a dark and surly alien and an intimidating presence on the bridge. The writers however saw him as something more interesting and the character we know soon developed.
Looks like my Christmas present is sorted. All I need to do now is drop a massive hint to my partner ;)
I have purchased the Blu Ray set and I am confused.
Please can someone explain to me why the episodes on the Blu Ray release are in a different order to every other list I have found on the internet? Why are the Network Blu Ray episodes switched around? Are they in production order, or is there some other reason?
I have never watched Space Patrol before. I want to be sure that I watch it in the correct order. PLEASE, SOMEBODY HELP ME!
Do you guys have an estimate for when this might appear on amazon? I'm from the US and having problems pre-ordering from your site.
Hi there, thank you for your query. I'm afraid that this title is currently exclusive to networkonair.com.
Thank`s for this, this is a program I only vaguely remember as I was so young. However, the sight & sound of the Spaceship & of the Metropolis, stayed firmly in my mind, though not the name of it.. If you don`t mind, I will add this to my page for other`s to see. :)
What is that song the spaceship plays?
Paul Norman : Hi, as far as I knew, I thought it was a sound effect. But, as I said, both sounds of ship & Metropolis were fixed in my young mind. :)
I remember the weird sounds and the robots that used to scare me as a child. So please someone found these!
WH.......WHAT???? THERES A DVD of this out? Where is the link please? Was this early Gerry Anderson?
No. Gerry's mentors, Roberta Leigh and Arthur Provis, produced this.
Do you ship to the US? I tried to pre-order and got an error message.
It looks quite amazing to me i will order it! how many episodes does it have?
All 39.
I want to work in a sausage factory too!
I have vague memories of a comic adaptation.. But its too long ago to be certain....
ah memories.
I am looking forward to this and think network do a wonderful job releasing and restoring older works. Will this new blu ray release include any / all of the special features from the previous dvd release? And is there any chance of a Space Precinct blu ray release?? Thank you, Network. :)
Hi there, I'm afraid that this set doesn't include any special features. Regarding Space Precinct, we'll certainly consider it - thanks.
Network Distributing thank you for replying, im still excited for this release though that is certainly disappointing the dpecial features arent carried over to make this a definitive release espeically given the care the episodes have had restoring them and the lovely "60s annual covers". I could have lived without the bonus episodes / pilots of related shows but the dvd release had 5 interviews plus a "natural interest pictures brochure" and "commercial break bumpers". So a shame these 7 short extras arent included, I hope all the extras find a new home on a future Roberta Leigh Blu Ray from Network but I still recommend this set this people.
Thank you aswell for acknowledging Space Precinct, I appreciate Network releasing both Roberta Leigh and Gerry Anderson's works and I feel Space Precinct is the last Anderson to get a solid release to the mass market. Myself and a lot of fans would be very grateful (I would even take an upscale job), hope theres no rights issue (?) and it can be done :))
Despite the commander's secretary being a Venusian woman, I always thought Slim was a Venusian woman too!
It didn't bother me that a woman would be on the crew and now I find out he's a guy!
I ordered the original; and I've ordered the Bluray. No mention about extras on the bluray. The original had 2 other Roberta Leigh shows on it. I wonder if they'll be included with the bluray? I'd love to see "The Solarnauts" on bluray. As a mixture of live action and minitures; it beat Gerry Andersons "UFO" by a year or two. homepages.tesco.net/~space.patrol/SpacePatrol/After2.htm
*WHAT THA HECK*
wtf am i watching?
Isn't it obvious? A featurette on how a fifty year old science fiction puppet series has been restored for Blu Ray release. I thought it was self explanatory.
Trump's vision has come true
