wilder linares I just watched the two trilogies back to back and I cried like a baby the last few scenes. These movies are so magical. I wish there were another trilogy in the making.
“You said you’d bind yourself to me.” When she looks up, and all you see is her eyes, I swear that’s one of the most beautiful scenes. Liv Tyler is so pretty.
“And to that I hold. I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.” “I choose a mortal life.” You FEEL that. Arwen could live on and on forever, but she tells the man she loves, who doubts himself and his worthiness of her, that if she can have a thousand lifetimes yet each one is without him, “then what’s the point?” If she can only have one lifetime with him, then one is all she’ll ever need.
Fun fact: The first time Arwen and Aragorn met, it was in the forest near Rivendell. She barely noticed him, but he was completely lovestruck. She started to fall in love with him when he stayed in Lórien, dressed in Elvish clothes, as a guest of Galadriel and Celeborn. Here, he says, "I thought I had strayed into a dream," meaning the first time he saw her, he thought she was Lúthien Tinúviel (famed for her beauty, who was Arwen's great grandmother, who also chose mortality for the love of her future husband).
@MinecraftPro15 Elros is the ancestor of Aragorn but not of Luthien or Arwen. Elros was Arwen's uncle and brother of Elrond, while Luthien was Elros great-granmother, and Arwens great-great-granmother. Aragorn is Elros (33 generations) descendant. I think you actually meant a "he" not a "she" in your comment.
They used to say that Arwen was actually very similar to her great-greatgranmother Luthien, to the point of suggesting that Aragorn and Arwen were reincarnations of Beren and Luthien.
ejstrayer There is none. She gave up immortality for love...unconditional love...perfect moment,scene...trilogy. Agreed, its so powerful...I get goosebumps everytime she says "I chose a mortal life" and Aniron in the background makes it even more perfect.
The emotion Mortensen is able to express just with his eyes is heartbreaking: Aragorn worried sick for Arwen, not wanting such an end for her. Love and lovely, and still absolutely breathtaking almost 20 years later.
Exactly was thinking this after watching recent shows. The subtle emotion and depth shown in this trilogy makes it the masterpiece it is. They make you emotionally invested in the lives of the characters as if you're part of it. Other interactions of Tolkien's work is just visuals without any real content. I believe thats what sets this trilogy above all else
It's really a credit to the actors, direction, writing, and overall strength of character of the production that two characters who share so few scenes 'truly' together onscreen portray such and enduring and powerful romantic connection. You can feel the length and depth of it, even in scenes they're miles apart. It's so effectively conveyed.
It’s really awkward for Elrond when you really think about it because like, Aragorn is his kid in all but blood. He raised him from two years old. He explicitly loves him like a son. So basically two of his kids are in love with each other.
Yes indeed - Jacko is maligned for the execrable Hobbit trilogy, but here he displays delicacy and sensitivity in allowing Tyler and Mortensen this scene. Any who have read the Silmarillion will understand the depth and power of this scene, one day I pray we will see the Silmarillion and understand the link between Beren and Luthien and this scene in Rivendell.
I love that the first scene is included so we can remember that Aragorn has his insecurities and love Arwen so much that he allows Arwen to look at his insecurities and let her comfort him. I love how Tolkien portrays love.
I'm the type of guy who isn't big on romantic scenes, but Peter Jackson perfectly captured this, to the point of yearning. The soft, subtle choir in the background, the gentle lull of the waterfall as it tumbles down the rocks, the moonlight illuminating the two... It fills me with a sense of emptiness that I don't have this in my life, and probably won't for a long, long while.

My boyfriend and I are huge LOTR fans, and we often have Arwen and Aragorn's romantic and beautiful Sindarin Elvish conversation on the bridge here in this scene, as if we were them in real life.
Even more perfect when you compare it to the scene where he let's Frodo go. Same hand closing shot. Frodo holds out the ring and Arragorn refuses to take it, unbounded power in his grasp and he let's go. Just like Arwen gives over her immortality, both could have had everything that others desire more than all else, but they had each other and rejected power and eternal life. Beautiful scene and perfect parallels to each other
Not only will we probably never see another trilogy as good as the LOTR, but it's becoming increasingly rarer to see a pure scene of a man and a woman expressing their love for each other, how sad is that?
😂. Ok. There’s. Lot of reasons for that. Here. It fits. It’s part of the story. Filmmakers have realized they don’t always have to shoehorn in a romance into every movie- thank goodness. They still make plenty of these types of “ pure love” movie moments.
Fellowship is a masterclass in building crescendo and this scene is such a perfect pause. It could very well be the single best scene in cinematic history.
This is so gentle, so pure, so unique - I can't remember another love story being portrayed this way ever since. I remember rewatching their scenes in whole trilogy many times - it was so beautiful, out-of-this-world beautiful...
This just tells me that no matter how dark a mans world can be... the love of your life will always be their light through the darkness... Even a big tough guy like me enjoys beautiful things like this.
@@Powerhaus88Aragorn could cry, show affection to his friends, heal, sing, read poetry. But he could also kick ass and defend everything he loved and showed incredible strength of character and concern for well being of others. At no point do we consider him a weak man because of crying because we know he's not weak.
After reviewing all the comments, I see that I was not the only one that was moved by this love scene. I cant recall any other movie that had such a powerful impact on my life. Everyone searches for this kind of love and every man hopes to live a glorious life and die a honorable death
0:50 BRUH The way the camera pans through the divine magical wood city and down to the little intimate spot where they meet is just...this small moment is levels above movies nowadays.
I just love this scene. The fact that it has such a beautiful piece of film music underneath it, used so quietly and subtly, makes the whole thing such a rare and exquisite jewel.
I've always appreciated the cinematography of these films. Unlike many films, this trilogy actually focuses on faces and eyes. In old films eyes and face were always the focus because of how much you can express yourself with close-ups. 1:33 eyes can say much without talking.
I always loved Arwen's response to Aragorn. Instead of arguing or trying to convince Aragorn she just says with absolutely confidence "it's mine to give to who I will." Her look afterward is one of "you don't get any say in this, the choice is all me buddy."
Heart breaking . . . "I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all ages of this world alone" "It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart"
Imagine someone loving you so deeply that they throw away immortality for you, maybe it's the nerd in me but that's a level of romance you get in very few stories.
This scene overwhelms me everytime to the point of tears it is so beautifully captured. (Snif) (grabs tissue) (HONK!) Their love is truly legendary. Poor Eowyn never had a chance. Aragorn was only being polite to her, which she mistook for reciprocated affection.
Fun fact: Tolkien originally planned to have Aragorn and Eowyn marry, but he decided Aragorn was "too old and grim" for Eowyn, so he created Faramir for her and Arwen for Aragorn. Two great couples.
Luckily, Aragorn turns her down in literally the nicest way possible - “It is but a shadow and a thought that you love. I cannot give you what you seek.”
Greatest trilogy of all time for several reasons, as this little but incredible scene shows: the atmosphere of a living fairytale in flesh and blood, storyline, dialogue, acting, score. Utterly magnificent.
Well said. When a movie known for battle scenes and fantasy can drop a love scene this gripping and emotional with little screen time between the 2 characters up to this point, it says something about the film’s quality. I only wish Rings of Power could have scenes like this in quality.

This is truly the most romantic scene in film I have ever seen.
Unbelievable they made those movies that long ago, they can easily hold up with modern action movies. Not to mention the story itself. It's just perfect for me.
This is the very essence of a high romance. Amazing! It could have been overdone but they kept a light touch on the music and the simplicity of their words.
I think part of what makes these scenes so great is that they work on two levels: if you're a casual viewer, unfamiliar with Tolkien's world, it's a powerful and effective portrayal of doubt, fate, and love; if you know the history of Isildur, Beren and Luthien, Numenor, and the Doom of Men, it's an evocation of some of the most foundational themes of Tolkien's work. It would be so easy to either jettison the mythos in favor of a simplified version or go all-in and alienate most viewers, but Peter Jackson and his team did an outstanding job of walking a fine line between both approaches, not only in this scene but in many parts of the trilogy.
This never fails to bring tears to my eyes. One of my favorite scenes in the trilogy, so beautiful from start to finish - not to mention the score. It's perfect.
Every time I view this video or see this scene on my DVD set, I weep uncontrollably. I'm crying now as I type this. It's so beautiful. The acting is superb, and it feels so real. The way they gaze into each other's eyes, the expressive emotions on their faces, the content of the dialog is so deep and profound....... it just wrenches my heartstrings, I'm so achingly overflowing with love , joy, and happiness for them. They're just fictional characters I know, but their portrayal is pure, direct, simple and true. Very splendid and lovely indeed. They don't make 'em like this anymore boys and girls....... Enjoy! P.S. PETER JACKSON RULES!!! LOL!
This is already beyond any expectations, I don't even know what to say. This scene has a unique and beautiful romantic spirit. Arwen and Aaragorn are very iconic and original characters.
I remember first seeing this scene back when the movie first came out. I don't think I breathed, and it seemed that time stopped. It was that beautiful. It still is.
AmvReverdedStudios you’ll be alone forever then since twerking, empty headed, selfish, mean spirited, cheating sluts with ugly tattoos all over their idiot bodies are all that Clown World produces.
i found a love like this and fucked it up boys. I fucked it up by perverting it and other mistakes.... been a year + and still can't get over her. just kill me guys....
I love the romance between them. I read somewhere that Tolkien and his wife gravestone describe their relationship as a mortal man married to a elf princess. I haven't read all Tolkien books but it always made me think of Arwen and Aragorn relationship bind by love but separated by being different.
Its Beren and Luthien, the first love between a mortal and an Elf who happened in the 1rst Age (the LOTRs is on the 3rd Age.) So great was their love that they died and were given a second chance to live together on earth after their quest to get one of the Silmarils ended tragically (It's the most epic love story in Tolkien's works). Beren and Luthien story is very similar to that of Arwen and Aragorn, but what is ironic is that Beren and Luthien are Arwen's Great-great-grandparents and Aragorns 35 generation ancestors. They were even said to look very much like them, and even believed to be a reeincarnation of them. Arwen is said to have bring the beauty of Luthien back into the world, as she looked exactly like her... PD: Aragorn sings a song to them in the Fellowship of the Ring's Movie, when they are heading to Amon Sul
"I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone" This line, in the way Arwen says it, with that look in her eyes... Breaks me up every time. Tears just role down my cheeks, I can't help it. This is TrueLove...
The power of love in this one scene eclipses everything in Game of Thrones. The dire, genuine, profound connection between these two, as well as the casting, will move anyone, and give them goosebumps.
Showers? um...It's Rivendell....waterfalls everywhere! Plenty of showers! Toilet paper is overrated, nothing a nice clean leaf wont take care of. And your body will adjust to the temperatures. Actually the elves seem to live quite luxuriously. I wouldn't be surprised if they had some form of toilet paper.
Well the elves are magic. I think it's unlikely I'll get to be an elf. If we lived in Rivendell, I'm pretty sure most of us would be, like, horse-poo cleaners, or chicken farmers, or whoever massages the kings feet.

Except for narcissists - they have no honor or care for who they hurt. Dodging them is like walking through a minefield searching for love, I'm told.
Arwen and Aragorn 🖤❤️. I always rewatch this scene a few times because it is truly magic. Enya singing Elvish in the background completes it all
This scene is the epitome of true love..executed beautifully
0:50 BRUH The way the camera pans through the divine magical wood city and down to the little intimate spot where they meet is just...this small moment is levels above movies nowadays.
A much much much much much much much much much much much much better love story than Twilight!
+TigerTrollUSA agreed
+TigerTrollUSA kermit and ms.piggy is better than twilight
u did not write enough much
LOL
make it a quintillion much, and we barely scratches the surface.
This generation needs movies like this, very beautiful.
I just love this scene. The fact that it has such a beautiful piece of film music underneath it, used so quietly and subtly, makes the whole thing such a rare and exquisite jewel.
The whole trilogy is amazing. The characters, script, story. It reaches such a deep level of the human conscious. Thats how good it is
I've always appreciated the cinematography of these films. Unlike many films, this trilogy actually focuses on faces and eyes. In old films eyes and face were always the focus because of how much you can express yourself with close-ups.
1:33 eyes can say much without talking.
When I got married, this was the music when my bride walked the aisle 😍
So sweet! I pray your marriage is blessed. ❤
Every Aragorn/Arwen scene makes me tear up.
It's 2021 and this scene never gets old. It's a classic and one of my favorites.
There is nothing in this world more hopelessly romantic than this scene.
The voice of Arwen is incredible in that scene
I always loved Arwen's response to Aragorn. Instead of arguing or trying to convince Aragorn she just says with absolutely confidence "it's mine to give to who I will." Her look afterward is one of "you don't get any say in this, the choice is all me buddy."
Heart breaking . . .
"I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all ages of this world alone"
"It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart"
That has to be the most tender love scene in any movie ever.
@@lou5956 Hmm...that's interesting that it's what Tolkein originally intended. Arwen and Eowyn are both women of action.
Enya in the background makes this scene more beautiful
Greatest trilogy of all time for several reasons, as this little but incredible scene shows: the atmosphere of a living fairytale in flesh and blood, storyline, dialogue, acting, score. Utterly magnificent.
Well said. When a movie known for battle scenes and fantasy can drop a love scene this gripping and emotional with little screen time between the 2 characters up to this point, it says something about the film’s quality.
I only wish Rings of Power could have scenes like this in quality.
This is truly the most romantic scene in film I have ever seen.
20 years have passed,…and it’s still as captivating as on the first day. This masterpiece of a trilogy has aged like the finest of wines.
Unbelievable they made those movies that long ago, they can easily hold up with modern action movies. Not to mention the story itself. It's just perfect for me.
Honestly it hasn't aged a day like Arwen
"Long years have passed. You did not have the cares you carry now."

Most beautiful romantic scene of all time in any movie.
So simple yet powerful.
The Enya song in the backround just makes it.
The music in this scene is just beautiful
Jessie Y it's ENYA at her best !!!
Enya for the win!!!
This never fails to bring tears to my eyes. One of my favorite scenes in the trilogy, so beautiful from start to finish - not to mention the score. It's perfect.
No other fantasy project has come anywhere near touching the beauty of LOTR. The power of Tolkein.
Who here wants this type love? This purest rendition of true love? I've never seen such a deep perspective of love on screen like this.
The fact that the scene ends with Elrond saying "strange"
Omg!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agent Smith: Strange, maybe I should go back the Matrix!
LOL!
well said , and I love how the music fits so perfect with this moment
I relate so much to your comment
@@cherrimochi wow thanks. I can't believe I said all that ten years ago!……
@@tywilliamnash5078 youtube is almost like a time machine!
This is one of the best love scenes of all time, let alone one of the best scenes in the trilogy….
Enya voices brings angelic love tones which are so soothing 🥰
This is already beyond any expectations, I don't even know what to say. This scene has a unique and beautiful romantic spirit. Arwen and Aaragorn are very iconic and original characters.
I remember first seeing this scene back when the movie first came out. I don't think I breathed, and it seemed that time stopped. It was that beautiful. It still is.
Aragorn is one man ill follow into battle
He can have my sword too..
like Boromir says in the end, "My brother, my captain, my king."
Yes I would follow this man in the battle against insanity
I LOVE the rally scene!!!
The chemistry between these two is insane. These scenes seemed so real.
This ladies and gentleman is why I am still currently single. Until I find someone that makes me feel like this? What am I wasting my time for.
AmvReverdedStudios you’ll be alone forever then since twerking, empty headed, selfish, mean spirited, cheating sluts with ugly tattoos all over their idiot bodies are all that Clown World produces.
Steve Shepard there are some still out there
The reality is not everyone will experience love like this only a fortunate few
i found a love like this and fucked it up boys. I fucked it up by perverting it and other mistakes.... been a year + and still can't get over her. just kill me guys....
Press F for respect for above guy ^ 😔
The on screen chemistry and the background score by Enya. Man.....
Pure, pure love.
We will never get a scene like this in modern movies again. Never.
That's so sad... :(
One of the most beautiful and romantic scenes ever put together in cinema 🙌🏼 The ambience, the music, the words ❤
Over twenty years later and this scene still gets me.
@@Alejojojo6 i thought they where only arwens great grandparents
I just totally cry watching this. So beautiful.
Rebecca Bruce Me, too! The scene, the music, and their love for each other just brings tears to my eyes! :'(
"I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone"
This line, in the way Arwen says it, with that look in her eyes...
Breaks me up every time. Tears just role down my cheeks, I can't help it.
This is TrueLove...
One of the most beautiful romantic scenes of all time.
I'm not much for romance, but this scene with Aragorn and Arwen is a definite exception.
This scene the script the music with enya.. Simply Devine...
Their eyes do all of the acting/real talking here. And that pan/zoom-out right at the end…
I still remember the shivers I got when seeing this scene in the theater for the first time.
The power of love in this one scene eclipses everything in Game of Thrones. The dire, genuine, profound connection between these two, as well as the casting, will move anyone, and give them goosebumps.
um...can Rivendell just be real so I can go there now cus I really just wanna go and live there, who's coming with me?
I would absolutely live in Rivendell for all time. I would have no problem in leaving this world behind in order to do so.
Me!
Fuck that, I'm gonna miss toilet paper and daily showers and air conditioning.
Showers? um...It's Rivendell....waterfalls everywhere!
