    My dad taught me 50+ years ago to use a piece of cereal box to set your gap. I went into the print industry after high school and it turns out the cardboard thickness on most of those boxes is what is called 10 point (pt.) which is 10 thousands of an inch. Dad was a shade tree small engine mechanic that everyone always brought their equipment to. I learned a lot from him! 😊

    Your videos are outstanding, and very informative. And the way you lay out the parts, with the part numbers and specs, is a REALLY good idea. Excellent.

    Great video sir. Very good troubleshooting tips.
    Just did the same thing on a Zero turn with a 2 cylinder Briggs. I replaced both coils. Started and runs fine. I checked both coils before I just replaced them.

      Hi Mack, Thank you for watching! I have not had a chance to get a look at it yet. I plan on cleaning it up and mounting it on a machine. Then run it to find out what is is doing, Diagnose and repair it. I will hope I can get most on video to show everyone. I will assume your tractor is doing good!

    Is it safe to use dielectric grease on the spark plug tip to prevent the coil wire tip from sticking to the plug tip

      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes and some do. I do not because I feel to much will make the spark plug boot come off and I have seen that before. I just make sure all are in good condition and feel for the clip on feeling when pushing boot on. Then I know all is good.

    Yet another great video. As the owner of a Craftsman LT2000 that is probably on it's last legs (18 years old at this point), I've heard that Craftsman mowers of today are nothing like they used to be. Can you recommend generally if one were to buy a new lawn tractor today which brand/model would you go with? Planning out my replacement mower now, before I have to make a snap decision.

      That is a tricky question and very hard to answer as there are many questions. What type of property do you have? hills, acreage? How much money do you want to spend on the machine? How long do you want the next machine to last or should I ask, how many more years do you think you will be mowing the grass? Will you be twing a cart? with heavy material? Do you have a John Deere dealership or a Cub Cadet dealership in your area? my opinion, If your just mowing grass and have 2 acres or less and do not want to spend a ton of money, I would most likely go with a John Deere S100 series, The S240 is a nice machine, stay away from the "quick change oil filter" is any of the John Deere mowers have it. I have a video on it. If you can afford the John Deere X300, that is a very nice machine.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thank you, great reply, all wonderful questions! I have about 1.5 acres to mow, mostly flat with a hill in one place I have to mow up/down but otherwise nothing major. No towing, literally just mowing. Naturally I want something that will last a long time with minimal maintenance, basically a Honda or Toyota of mowers - simple, easy, gets the job done reliably. I will look at the John Deere's, we do have a dealership nearby I just hate the idea that I have to go to a specific dealership to get a mower.
