Could it be that you were afraid of swinging in public ? Im appearently too big to swing. last time I tried cable machine station almost toppled over :/
This is a public thank-you to Chris and the entire THENX team: I turn 50 this year. On my last birthday I decided to get my ass back in tip-tip shape. I've always kept in decent shape but, admittedly, let myself go the last couple of years sitting behind a desk. My goal for the year last August: re-establish the workout habit, get back to 10% body fat, and be able to do muscle-ups. I knew to get there it would require a lot of basic calisthenics work. At the time I could only do about 5 pull-ups and 15 push-ups per set. I had strong memory of doing more but I had gotten weak. This week, after watching many of your videos here and working on your routines and... after 10 months of training almost daily... I can finally do a muscle-up. I can't do a whole lot, but I can do them. Body fat around 11%. Workout habit established. Thanks, Chris, for the inspiration!
I was trying to do a muscle up based on what I see in the gym from other people before. And then I came across this video, with the proper techniques. Today, February 18, 2022, marks the day that I did my first ever clean muscle up. Thank you! 💪🏻
I weigh 175 pounds. I can do weighted chin ups with 90 pounds. Deadlift 405. Squat 335. Bench 285. Do 12 strict wide grip pull ups. And NEVERRRR NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER was able to do a fucking muscle up. Today I came across this video while eating breakfast before my sunday leg day training. After training legs, I walked to the bar. Followed the 3 steps and BAM! Muscle up on the second attempt. This man is a genius.
Did my first Muscle Up last week. The first one is the hardest. Thanks for all the helpful content. My personal tip is to try it every work out, before you do anything else, without overdoing it. Like 10 tries, but with max power and then move on to you regular workout
This takes some serious handling of the timing. Sometimes I manage to do it almost perfectly and other times I just fail miserably. Well, practice makes perfect :D
Bejenaru Victor and Kay Low the timing occurs when you are able to go into the arch position (magic button). Your entire body needs to be on the arch side of the movement once you feel yoir chest are foward pull hard with a hard kip of the hips. Kay Low your problem maybe on the arches position on tge bar. Check to see if when you fail your muscle up your arch position is not under the bar.
I watched this video yesterday and today at the gym I actually did my first muscle up! I even managed to get 2 in a row! These tips are awesome, thank you so much!
yo bro i have been struggling with the muscle up for so many months, but i watched your video and decided to give it a try, and i got one in like 4 tries. thank you so much, your content is very helpful and profesionally done. keep it up.
9 months ago I could do a single muscle up. With my strength regimen partly developed through Thenx vids (including lots of front lever progression and L-sit backs) and techniques in this video, I revisited the muscle ups today at the park and hit 5 sets of 5 reps. THANK YOU CHRIS!
After weeks of practicing, I was able to do my first muscle-up this week. It was really bad technique but I was so happy about it! I had it on camera too (had a bunch of failed ones with it) and I showed it to my friend because I was so excited. He then sent me to this channel and as soon as I watched it, I got straight back on the bar and incorporated what you showed. This was 2 days ago. Yesterday I was able to hit 4 muscle-ups in a row and today I did 3 sets of 3 muscle-ups in a row. The first 2 techniques (the swinging and L-sit) really helped me so much! This morning I tried to do muscle-ups but couldn't, but then I went back to practicing the L-sits and swinging and was able to get that 3 X 3 I mentioned before. Thanks heaps man!
dude you're great, your advice has allowed me to spend my first muscle-up correctly. I have 52 years and this is just one week I succeeds to do, but without technique, I went first on the elbows. thanks to your video, it really goes more smoothly, it really makes you want to train hard to go further. thanks again . from Africa, Morroco
Chris, this is a superb tutorial! I find that youtube trainers often teach what to do, but not why you're doing it. Elucidating the reasons and principles behind a desired action, as well as technique, is paramount. This gives the knowledge to correct problems when they occur, allowing for continued progress rather than frustration and failure. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication, I'm certain you are helping a great many people, which is just about the best thing anyone can do in life. Cheers from the UK!
Great tutorial, you might be a genius man! Many can do calisthenics, but you have a way of putting that seems to simple and straightforward. Good pedagogy skills.
Your search ends here! This is the best and most accurate tutorial you will watch to achieve your first muscle up. I nailed it in one day without any prior practice.
I discovered this channel 3-4 months ago. Could barely do 5-6 pull ups and of course no muscle ups. Today I hit my first muscle up and managed 15 consecutive pull ups. Feels good man. :D
Yesterday I couldn't do a single muscle up, today I watched this video, and tried again. I succeeded. I went beyond what I could imagine. I done 4 strict clean muscle ups at once! So my technique I was using till now was not the correct one.Thank you!
Well this is more of a you have all the strength and you already workout but you don’t have the right technique down so you can’t do it correctly but once you get the technique you can do it
What a trip. After a year of trying to learn the muscle up I got annoyed of not being able to do the muscle up. Saw this video a year ago but never actually committed. Finally today I remembered this video. So when he says “ L sit as much as you can” that will fly you over the bar. Moral of the story. I muscled up taking herias L sit advice!!!!!!!!
hi hi gymnast here, this is that “backflip” is actually a really simple and beginner skill called a flyaway. Its cool but its surprisingly extremely easy to learn.
I tried muscle up before watching this wideo so many times. But after I saw you tutorial today I made my first muscle up and second one and so on. Thx from Poland!
just did my first one today, after 9 months of on-and-off trying them. was kipping like a dying fish, my body looked like a whip, but i got both arms around pretty much simultaneously. this is the video that gave me the final pieces of the puzzle to get my first one in. the magic button, followed by an L sit got me pretty close first, with the bar around chest height, but i couldnt get my centre of mass over the bar. the thing that finally did it for me was the reverse muscle up, but in a specific way. my little gym doesnt have chest height flat bars, so to do a reverse muscle up i had to take a little box and jump to get onto the bar. with the box i'd say the bar was about at the height of my chin/nose area. the thing that really showed me how to do them was this jumping up part: it familiarised me with how swing around the bar to get my centre of gravity over it, ant let me practice this without getting completely wiped. the first time i actually did a real one, i was surprised at how easy it felt to do this thing i'd been trying and failing for so long. so yeah, my input is this: when doing reverse muscle ups, try to figure out how to get a bar that is around head height and jump into it. it''s a great way to understand the motions needed and the timing of the kip.
I did my first clean muscle up today and I took me 3 weeks to learn it. I definitely had the strength then already, but what helped me was to find the right technique and get the reps in. I could not do ist in five minutes, so I bought some resistance bands. I failed a lot, but ist was definitely worth the effort (I almost trained everyday). So don’t worry if you feel like there‘s no chance you can do it, I was always frustrated when I failed, but that’s what was keeping me motivated.
I got my first muscle up this week thanks to this video! I would also add to use your knees for more explosiveness in the pulling part if you are just starting out.
Chris you're the man. Watched this video and got strict MUs down after 20 minutes. Been trying on and off for a year but didn't understand the technique/ form required to execute it. Your video was sooo clear bro, picked it up so fast after watching this. LOVE U G
Great tutorial!! After watching this I knocked out my first clean and even muscle ups and then did 7 straight! So stoked. Thanks for the effective instruction.
this is my 2nd day trying to do the muscle up. I was thinking to buy a resistance band to help me with my muscle up. then I saw your vid and try it like 10-20 times but I failed. I was about to give up so I decided to do one last attempt. then BOOM! I DID IT! my first muscle up 💪😁 THANK YOU VERY MUCH ❤
I was using my water bottle as my magic button. As I kept practicing I was getting thirstier and thirstier but couldn't figure out where my damn water bottle was! Only realised when I was done practicing 🤦♂️I guess my brain and muscles can't work at the same time 🤷♂️

Believe Inyourself i agree, its very hard to do without using momentum. I think that people what learn how to do pulls up ; i learned just by using a small bar and progressing onto taller bars (pull up to a muscle up)

It's true that you cant do a muscle up without the tattoos but that poor kid is wearing shirts he found in a dumpster.

I don't care if it's momentum, Haters. It's a good way to start, and props to him, this looks like it well help me!
CAl Gond you do realise how much strength it takes to do a muscle up from a dead hang
Haters are motivators
Muscle ups can be challenging. I suppose a little momentum and leverage is inevitable, but it doesn't make it any less of an effective exercise.
@CAl Gond yeah but surely being able to do it with kipping is somewhat a progression to being able to do the real thing?
Yeah but if u use such momentum it isn't a muscleup it's a kickup
