Great reaction y’all! My mother in law went to school with him (2 years older) in south Oak Cliff area of Dallas.
SRV was a blues man at heart but also liked southern rock and he developed what’s known as “Texas Blues.” He and BB King were close friends.
He originally wanted to play drums but his older brother encouraged him to play guitar 🎸 so he started at age 7.
He had huge and very strong hands.. he played with 13 gauge strings (huge and insane) but still managed to break them occasionally. He played so much that he developed calloused fingertips and would play till they tore off.. to which he’d grab the callous and superglue them back onto the finger(s).
He was called the greatest by BB King, Clapton, Hendrix and his brother Jimmy (all of which Stevie would say he thought they were better than him).
    A humble man.
This song was for his friend Charlie.
Please please; you’ve not already, please react to Texas Flood, live at El Mocambo. It’s next level.
    RIP Stevie🙏🏻✝️👑

Not only did he switch guitars in the middle of the song flawlessly because the first one was malfunctioning, and played behind his back, but he played with his teeth (and broke a tooth!) without missing a beat! SRV is truly one of the greatest blues/rock players of all time.

The song is about his friend that built that guitar for him and had sense passed away. SRV always uses this guitar on this song. Started the song before he changed so signaled to change. It is the tone and sentient for the whole song! SRV is the GOAT!! Miss him GREATLY!!

I find it interesting that SRV thanked Charlie after he acknowledged he broke a tooth. Im wondering if Charlie told SRV that if he kept playing the guitar with his teeth he'd lose a tooth...And then in a tribute to Charlie he in fact lost a tooth. Just musings but....hmmmmm

Great reaction guys👏🙌. This man will hit you in the feels every time💙🎸🎶‼️. This was created by Stevie after the sudden passing of his great friend and Dallas TX guitar shop owner so this was such an emotional song for him. This was the finale at this concert.
You remarked about him not losing composure in the beginning when someone was adjusting something. What can be easily missed is that was a guitar switch! He started with a brown guitar that he tried tuning right away and they brought him that white guitar and switched out. So even more impressive than you thought. That white guitar was actually built out of spare parts by his friend Charley that the song is about.
For another very impressive guitar switch out watch "Look at Little Sister" from Austin City Limits 1989🎸🤯‼️. This time the camera is pulled back so you can see the switch from the beginning. He and his crew had a lot of practice because Stevie broke a lot of those very thick strings of his. So after the switch he bent down to adjust his foot pedals (no dropped pick) and then went to adjust the amps for this new guitar. Yes multi-tasking indeed! And yes he was not only one of the very top guitars of his time but all time. He is still considered the best to ever do it 🎸🎶💙💯

The song "Life Without You" was written by Stevie (and I think Doyle Bramhill) in dedication to guitar shop owner and friend Charley Wirz who had passed away. The white guitar Stevie switched to was made for him by Charley and Stevie who named his guitars named this one Charley.

It has gotten to a point where, as soon as I hear the first note, I start to tear up. SRV was such a kind soul. I have heard that what Stevie was referring to in his "talk" was the suffering of Apartheid in South Africa.

    • @jerrypass7135
      @jerrypass7135 9 месяцев назад +1

Unfortunately, you heard wrong. He was referring to what had happened to a few friends "in another part of the country, down south." People don't hear him correctly and just assume he said "in the mother country" and then falsely relate that to South Africa.

At 1:40 he gives the signal. a string has broken.
1:45 he is giving a confirmation nod to the crew; "Yes we need a switch!"
1:54 Hands them his guitar. While another dude puts a new one infront of him.
2:04 The one guy finis attaching the shoulder strap whule SRV starts playing.
Everything planned and done just below/out of frame without anything can be heard or seen. Magic!
Bonus info: at 12:10 when he is playing with his teeth he actually breaks a tooth that goes flying into the crowd! in the moments after you can see him mouthing the words " I LOFT A TOOF" (I lost a tooth. lol) to the backstage crowd. and then he is actually looking around for it! Without missing a beat!

... what you failed to notice is that he just changed to a new guitar about 2 minutes into the song. I swear. Check it out, when he begins this song, he's playing a dark brown guitar and then suddenly he's now playing his White guitar, called "Charlie," which was his friends name that passed away and who he wrote this song for. There's a lot more things going on here too, but I'll let you figure all of it out, for yourselves. Cheers...

  • @StanSwan

His E string on the bottom was bad. He tried to adjust it but it was flat so looked over to switch guitars. He played hard on the E string and liked thin strings. To change a string is a pain so he just switched guitars. There are many videos of him doing this. He did it when I saw him live in 1988.
