You all don’t know how many times I’ve commented to every reaction channel to react to THIS VIDEO and it always falls on deaf ears. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for you guys to do this one. I have often called it a “ grown up song” by SRV. It’s such a shock to see and hear him play such a song totally different from his repertoire. Thank you guys. You gave this old guy a lump in his throat and goosebumps.
I totally agree. I have been waiting a long time for someone to react to this song. This is what I listen to when I really want to chill out. Thank you.
@@AirplayBeats imho, this is one of the few where you definitely need to hear the studio version. Add the story behind that part of the session, and a piece of magic was captured that day.
The studio version of this song was recorded in the middle of the night with almost all the lights out in the studio. they asked the engineer if he had enough tape and he said yes. They started recording and SRV had his back to the engineer and after playing for quite a while, the tape was running low. The engineer was trying to get anybody's attention but no luck. They were into the song. Finally, the engineer got Chris Laton's attention and was giving him the "cut" sign. Chris got SRV's attention and gave him the "cut" sign. They wrapped the song up and as soon as the last note faded out, the tape ran out. They did the studio version in one take.
Yeah I read a similar version in a book I used to have about Stevie. They had been working so hard on the album . Everyone was so tired that night & in comes Stevie just feeling it. That recording was meant to be.
SRV and DT won a Grammy for best contemporary blues Instrumental with this song, It still gives me the chills when Stevie plucks the strings above the nut on the headstock, I played this at my Daughters memorial service and it gave me a peaceful feeling I can't describe. Stevie was on a whole different level
It was definitely “in him.” I was lucky enough to see him perform many times around Austin and beyond. Of course he possessed technical prowess through years of obsession and hard work, but when you watched him play, it was apparent that there was an extraordinary amount of innate talent. Even when playing extended solos and improvising, he was never lost or searching where to go next. He was like a conduit connected to something higher and the music flowed through him almost effortlessly. He could crush you with a blistering blues driven hard rock solo, and this song shows he could silence a crowd with beautiful melodies as well. One of a kind.
I was lucky enough to follow him from LIU POST Tilles Center all the way up to Radio City Music Hall. My favorite shows were at the pier in NYC. The audience at every show felt like being with long time friends you never knew. Blessed to have been able to be there.
Couldn't click fast enough when this came up👋👏✌️‼️. This is an original composition by Stevie from his "In Step" album which was his first album after rehab and getting clean and sober. The whole In Step album has several songs conveying the struggles of addiction and the blessings of sobriety. Crossfire, Tightrope, etc. even the title In Step refers to working the AA 12 step program. Touring after rehab Stevie always had someone find where meetings were in the place they would travel to. He was very proud of his hard won sobriety and spent the last 4 years of his life helping and encouraging others to find the peace and happiness he had found. This song is a soothing balm to a weary spirit and imparts understanding of the struggle along with the promise of the rewards of coming out free. That's why in the beginning he dedicated it to "all who are still suffering in any way". And yes Reece🎹🎹‼️🎶Reece is Stevie on the piano💯. Reece joined DT in August of 1985. This was a true Band of Brothers who loved and respected each other very much. Stevie insisted all performance fees be spilt equally between them which was never done. You guys will really love "Lenny" a love song to his ex wife that is truly beautiful. Most people will suggest this one from the El Macombo and it is truly great but hardly anyone reacts to Lenny from his Toyko concert. The camera work and audio/video is excellent and it is my favorite version. I hope you will check it out. Thanks so much for this today guys! It made my day✌️
Late in his career he matured and learned a valuable lesson from B.B. King, who said that sometimes what you don't play is as important as what you do. He meant that the pauses and silences between notes can be very meaningful. You can see Stevie learn that and incorporate it into his later performances. He constantly improved throughout his live. What could have been?
I have a soft spot for this song. Me and my then girlfriend was watching this on video, and at the end of this song during the fade out, I proposed to her. And 20 years later, we are still married and she's my best friend. A true southern belle blonde from North Carolina. This whole concert was incredible. I cried for weeks when Stevie Ray Vaughan when his chopper crashed, and killed him. Cheers guys, Deaf Gryphon ^V^
Smooth as silk When an artist can transport The Listener to another place thu there soul&passion they have did their job effortlessly and Stevie had bucket loads of that ability.
This song is from his last studio album In Step. I think it's the most beautiful song he's ever done. A masterpiece, you should definitely check it out!
He actually played as light as 12s and as heavy as 17s at one point, but for most of his career, Stevie Ray Vaughan's main guitars, his Number One and Lenny that are super legendary, were strung up with 13s-which is probably what you've heard of when you heard about Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar string gauges in the past ...
This was his best concerts, in my opinion..All the songs you watch from this show will blow your minds on what he could do towards the end of his time on earth..
Yep, SRV could go Blazing Texas Blues and be the most sensitive guitarists, playing with low volume, space and great dynamics, all within the same song.
A big part of this is Stevie being clean after so many hard years, personally i think his playing is so much better the last couple years before his death
There is SO much emotion happening in this song! It's simultaneously sultry, smoky, sensual, and sexy, while being bare, soulful, raw, pleading, and desperate. It brings me to tears every time I hear it, for different reasons every time. Probably his best work ever.
I enjoyed SRV before I heard this song. However, I was driving back home in my truck one rainy night listening to KFOG 104.5FM when I first heard this song (I enjoyed some of his other songs like "Crossfire," so I don't know why I hadn't heard this one), and it just transported me. This song is what made me a FAN that went and consumed anything he had recorded.
Stevie's brother Jimmy said that Stevie was always pushing himself and that he never heard him play a song the same way twice. Elite creative endurance.
This incredible song always makes me sad... To think that he still had an immense bag of new tricks, insane feeling, insane creativity yet to show. He was yet to reach his peak and he tragically died. It makes me feel like humanity was robbed. He would have revolutionized jazz as well, just like he did with blues. And who knows what else...
He truly was one of a kind. What an awesome reaction to an amazing song. Have yall checked out "Life Without you" live from Capitol Theatre or "Hideaway/Rude Mood" live from Montreux 1982 yet? Those are 2 great performances as well.

SRV - Life Without You, @ The Capital Theatre (85) is probably his best live performance, even more than Texas Flood. He wrote the song for his friend and guitar technician Charlie who built his white guitar and died unexpectedly.

This is on the album In Step, the last album he did with his band Double Trouble. Best live version of this great instrumental ever. Reese Wynans on keyboards 🔥 Tommy Shannon on bass, Chris Layton on drums.

Totally nailed it with the George Benson comparison with that one part/rift! As someone who had just graduated college in ‘93, excellent point on this being the beginning of the smooth jazz era of the 90s. 👍🏼
This is peak SRV. The level of nuance, and technique on display here is truly elite. Testament to what can be accomplished if you're willing to spend nearly your whole life with an instrument in your hands.
By far my favorite SRV next to tin pan alley . This shown Stevies versatility . Rock, blues , jazz , even classical . The whole package . RIP Stevie . We reallt miss you .
RIP SRV, Great song Stevie at his best slow groovin from his "In Step" album. I got this in vinyl when it came out and was blown away by this track. Like you guys, it took me to smooth jazz-ville, and with the double stops reminded me of the great George Benson. SRV had a massive bag of tricks to let loose on the world, his light was extinguished much too soon...
I have watched your SRV journey. I am so happy you guys are giving him the respect he deserves as probably the greatest guitarist of his time. Maybe ever.

A great loss for music & mankind when SRV left us.

Studio version has better mix for quiet listening, imo. Live is more raw, but still amazing.

The sweetest notes to be ever picked on a guitar. Legend!!!!
Lenny too.
The same guitar that can melt your face can melt your soul.
You 2 ROCK. SRV IS THE GOAT....
I love the fact that Stevie wrote this song himself. He wrote others as well and it's always a pleasure to see people react to these songs on RUclips.

I 100 percent agree, Rivera Paradise helps heal the souls feeling the worst pain, by giving them a compassionate and empathetic musical hug.
Hope you’re doing well after going through something like that. I’m glad you had Stevie to help you through that and i’m glad that we all do.

That man could make that guitar do anything , what a great talent lost way too soon !!
The most beautiful song SVR has ever done. Immaculate in every way!
Every member of this band is the best!
