I have never made anything before clothes wise, my daughter likes this style so want to surprise her, she is going to be a bridesmaid at her dads wedding. She does want a cowl for the back as well though, do you have a video of making one that I could attached to the dress? Thank you Sharon UK

    Hi, I’m kinda a new sewer and I have one question. When sewing the facing to the bodice are the steps the same for both the bow strap and criss cross strap?

  • @izzysmith4353
    @izzysmith4353 2 года назад +1

    This dress looks incredibly beautiful. I have my prom coming up soon after my exams and would love to be able to make this but I’ve only sewn a tote bag where the stitching wasn’t straight (probably just need to draw where I need to sew and that should help for now) so I doubt that I’d be able to make this. I might buy some satin and muslin though so I can use the muslin to have a go. In terms of the sizing I would also need to adapt the sizing as I have a wider waist than the pattern. What would be the best way to do that without changing the drape of the fabric in the cowl?
    As I don’t own a serger, would a zigzag stitch be fine instead?

    • @acrestedlover
      @acrestedlover 2 года назад +1

      I'm doing this exact thing with a beginning sewer. She also has only sewn a tote bag, so this is definitely doable at a beginner level, if you have help. If you are going at it solo, I would suggest making it a couple of times in a nice light cotton or drapey rayon (called rayon challis). This will be much easier to work with, and this pattern is great as a summer maxi dress!
      To answer questions - we added about 3 inches to her pattern at the waist, if I remember, her natural waist measurement is 38".
      For the top back - we added 1.5", at the back fold line.
      For the top front - we added 1.5", at the arm side.
      On the skirt back - we added 1.5", on the fold line
      On the skirt Center/Side - we added .75", on the side which is sewn to the back.
      On the skirt Center/Front - we added .75", on the side which is sewn to the back.
      We shortened the entire bodice by about 1", because she has a shorter torso.
      What will probably be trickiest - the invisible zipper. Watch a few different tutorials, be patient, and use a zipper foot. =) Oh, and a zig zag will be fine instead of a serger, just play around with the machine settings to see how wide or narrow it should be for the fabric you're using.

    It was a great dress and pattern, not disrespecting but for Indian market the pattern price is kinda high, from my POV, I would definitely buy the pattern if it was 5 dollars or 10 dollars, otherwise I can get a full dress like this in 15 dollars here
