Seems like this rather up my alley. I love the look of it and the fact it definitely seems a lot more forgiving than Banjo Kazooie back in the day (the Engine Room still haunts my dreams). I think I'll pick it up and give it a go sooner rather than later. Thanks for the review.
This is why I watch almost every video y'all put out: if someone had just described this to me as a throwback to the N64, I would've immediately passed on it, but this looks so colorful, charming, and just plain weird that I think I'd genuinely enjoy it.
I remember when the original Yooka laylee got release and people gave out about the game being to close to N64 games warts and all...but i was happy about that as that was exactly what they promised and for me they nailed it. This game looks like they even went more so with the N64 aesthetic
This is a well-delivered, and more importantly, thoughtful review. I disagree with some of the things you said and your framing of strengths or weaknesses, but I'm definitely fangirling out over this game (got 100% today).
i do have to say, i get the N64 controller did have two main buttons of A and B but...some of the abilities to do a horn jump i do wish for a modern controller has more buttons like PS5 controller for example. Why could they just use more other buttons the just the two? when i do need do a horn jump it just acts like "oh hey horn jump" when i need do tail swipe jump, auto jumping for not getting soft lock when i am at a incline, and yes that stupid wanky camera. That is why i do hate about the early 3D era. But still good indie game for sure.
I Thought This Game Have The Same 3D Levels Linearity as Rayman 2 Kinda Disappointed me That this Game is Just Another Explorative Game but at Least this Game for Atmosphere is More Enjoyable than Yooka-Laylee
I've been enthralled with this game ever since I played the demo. Can't wait until it comes to Switch

Leaving all retro sensitivities aside, this game looks gorgeous and inviting!
It will be an instant buy for me.

Had to buy immediately. Open platformer feel of Banjo and a Spyro-like protagonist, I'm all for
Enjoy 😊
