I've always been a giant fan of the Ryan/Summer friendship. I don't even wish that the writers had made them hook up, coz their friendship was sweet/funny/awesome. I just wish the writers had spent more effort on Seth/Marissa friendship, which was great in the early days and then died :/
Summer had the least depth of the 4 teens. She was basically the lighthearted comic relief, most of the time. None of her arcs were ever heavy or emotional. She was never a serious character.

None of her scenes were full of intensity and emotion like the ones with Ryan, Trey, Marissa, Sandy etc. Even her scenes with the therapist after Marissa's death had a lighthearted and humorous vibe to them. Summer was someone who never took anything too seriously or heavily, that's just who she was.

To me it always seemed like Marissa and Seth weren't even real friends. They only happened to hang out because they were together with Ryan and Summer. If those two weren't there, Marissa and Seth wouldn't have had anything to do with each other besides being neighbors.

Because he has trust issues and he also had to be with other girls like Teresa and Sadie. Because he could've had something else like hooking up with Summer if he truly didn't want to be with Marissa and that's why.

I’m so glad that Summer & Ryan didn’t become a couple or hook up. I know Summer showed interest in Ryan in the beginning of season 1, but that quickly went away. It was nice how the core four of the OC didn’t all date each other, and how they didn’t try to have Seth/Marissa and Summer/Ryan date or hook up. It’s refreshing seeing an opposite sex friendship with no romance or unrequited love involved
I think Ryan had listening to Summer because of their relation with Marissa. Seth wasn't really connected to her, She was Ryan's girl-friend/ex-girlfriend and Summer's best-friend. I see this like that.. I wasn't a fan of "Marissa", she was always depressed, I wasn't a Ryan/Marissa fan either, but she was like the mainstay of this show.. she was the person who got Ryan/Seth & Summer close and I had to realised that when she's gone.
Yeah Ryan would've hooked up with Summer if he truly didn't want to be with Marissa. Because in season 4 it should've been Ryan and Summer and not Ryan and Taylor.

I still don't think Ryan would ever hurt Seth like that (he wouldn't physically hook up with Summer), but I wish Ryan/Summer happened from the very beginning in The Pilot when she thought he was hot and Seth really wasn't yet a factor. :D Why? 8 years too late, but are you kidding me? Taylor was the best thing for Ryan in the end. She was happy and so was Ryan, none of the drama BS Marissa brought to Ryan's life. Always saving her and getting in trouble. Whether you like it or not, its true that if they end up together, Ryan would not have a happy life, Marissa dragging him down to her level of messy life.
