I had 3 of them break. I replaced the 3 on back of the head and 2 on side of block. Used a razor blade to put cuts in the threaded section and then use a screw driver to break them out. Just make sure you don't get any pieces in the cooling system. The chisel idea is a great idea. Change them all out before they break!
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 You are right, Brother. They never should have used them. I keep a couple extra brass ones in case I happen across another truck with a broken one
Had the same issue on my Semi. If I'm not mistaken there is a recall on those but only if your truck is under warranty. The brass fitting is suppose to be the new replacement. Why they didn't put the brass fitting to begin with on $150k+ truck? Cheap bastards.
We have a stool that hangs on the wheel, pretty nifty. Also seen cummins with those same shit fittings we had to replace the same way. We don't have any trucks anymore that aren't built to fail. Freightliners, volvos, kenworths. And peterbilts. They get worse every year.
I have the same problem right now here in Boston, MA and trying to pull that plastic fitting out of the back of the engine. What size is that fitting and where I can buy it? Thank you.
I’ll look tomorrow.. this fitting that they put it can’t tighten up good. it still turns. I need the right size. Im adding 2 gallons antifreeze in 100 miles, still leaks.
Do you happen to know the size of the chisel? I'm going to replace all three of mine this weekend. If it hasn't broken yet what are the chances that it'll come out without breaking off. Have you ever changed the one on the back of the head? It looks like I can get to it by removing the air filter assembly.
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 where did you get davie? And how much is it a year if not a secret because i contacted our kw dealer and they told me that they dont sell the program?
I only found one on the back of the motor. Someone told me there are 4. If they aren't broken or leaking then what's the possibility I'll get them out?
I remember one on the side and two on the back but there may have been running changes. If they aren’t broke you’re probably 50/50 on them unscrewing. The ones on the back of the head can be a pain!
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 I have 2 on the passenger side behind the turbo and it appears to be one on the back. I'm going to try and replace them Saturday. Wish me luck.
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 thanks For the quick reply! I got a garden hose thread fitting to screw in not sure if it was right but it’s what I had access too kenworth didn’t have anything in stock and couldn’t get me one until Monday had a tank full of milk that had to be delivered. It got me to processing facility and home it’ll stay in until I can get the real part

They are definitely a bad design! Plastic coolant fittings just don’t last.

Thank broke down on side of the road the video really helped👍
I’m glad it helped someone!
I seen guys jump off flatbed trailer down to the ground. You got a point about that.
It catches up with you!
These are recalled but it’s fix as fail. I got towed in to mhc kw in atl. Dealer paid tow
That’s good! When I made this video they were not being recalled. But glad to hear they finally are! I wasn’t a fan of that design.

I 100 percent agree!
Yes, lol. Just happened to me yesterday. Luckily I was just a block away from a repair shop. 😁
Been there done that. It was a joy.
The ones on the back are so much worse…

I agree! I’ve since switch to a different field (forklifts of all sizes) it’s the same here too. You see stuff that just makes you shake your head!
Ty💪👍
Any know the size or thread of the fitting
I don’t remember it, it is an o-ring seal though if that helps! It’s also straight thread not pipe.

Sounds like they used the wrong fitting! Good luck man!
Got the link for the fitting
I don’t unfortunately. But you can get them from peterbilt and other dealers that use paccar engines.

I don’t I just find one that fits snug. For what it’s worth the cheap set at harbor freight works decent. What make and model truck is it?

What thread pattern is the replacement
Unfortunately I don’t but I can tell you it’s a straight thread o-ring fitting. I hope this helps!
