Thanks for this unboxing. So many of the reviews are folks who don't have any technical knowledge.
Thank you.
been using the sniper xflow on my hotrod for over 4 years and its been great no problems at all from day one. Running a dart block 377 with 700th lift roller cam, big heads eg eg
I think quality on the early units was hit or miss. Some people had great luck and others seemed to have constant issues. That said this sniper 2 has been great!
Thank you 👍🏼 Good tutorial. My wife has the same car. I'll change it myself now.
Glad it helped!
Nice review. Great information and commentary.
Glad you liked it!
On the Sniper 2, There are two Adjustments screws with green springs around them. I really want to know what each screw adjusts? Like the front one (towards the front of the turck) adjusts _____ ? And the rear most one is for adjusting the _____________________?
@@MikeBaxterABC They adjust the throttle blades.
Try an FMX.
I’m pretty sure those transmissions, 300 in line 6 cylinders, twinkies, and roaches will be the only things left after a nuclear bomb.
On my 70 Mach 1 - I used faraday tape on sniper wires to eliminate EMI.
I actually had that too! Plus the beads. I can say I haven’t had any rfi issues with the sniper 2. Some people have said they had to go to a plastic air cleaner stud. But that wasn’t an option for me due to the blow thru set up.
so you running the howards solid rollers on cam motion hydraulic roller cam? How is that working out?
Works great! You have to run them pretty tight on the lash.
I have a Sniper 1. No problems. I must have got a good one.
Some people never have issues! I wish I wouldn’t have. The xflow had more options I would have rather kept.
On the sniper 1 units we ran into issues with them getting the rfi from the air cleaner housing transfering it down the center rod. We started making the center rod out of delrin and running double gaskets at the base to stop it. Fixed several this way. There is also shielded covering you can buy from Mcmaster Carr. It's expensive but will take the interference away.
I’ve read about people doing stuff like that. The sniper 2 is still working great for me. I’m out of fuel with it but it’s functioning well!
Pretty cool fly cutting reliefs in a piston
Thanks man! I’ve had to do this a few times over the years. It works. I’m just trying to help a buddy get his car out and running this season!
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 Never knew that even existed
Looks like they just took everything from the Atomic 2.
I’ve never had my hands on one to know. If someone wanted to send one I would gladly do a comparison.
I never knew why they didn't shield better. I bent a copper plate between my FiTech and my Ford 460 distributor.
Seems that’s a lot of the issue!
******GREAT VIDEO*****!!! Need info on specific block prep for a 30+lb turbo 4.6 32v Teksid block build
Ask away and if I can help I will.
I got a dna 50mm. I took it apart to check and it was pretty perfect. Like really good actually and ive had it running for 9 months or so. It does exactly what it's supposed to do!
They do work well! Mine have been great! I’ve got great control over my boost level and so far they are holding up well!
I've been running a Sniper Stealth on my Windsor since 2022. I chose that variant because of everyone having issues with the regular sniper (especially on Fords), and because I wanted the 4150 carb appearance. I haven't had a single issue with it. I'm running the Hyperspark distributor with a 6AL-2 box, and Ford Racing cut-to-fit plug wires. My alternator is a Gen3 200-amp, and out of an abundance of caution, I added an external ground cable. I think Holley should have just stopped selling the square sniper just sell the stealth instead of coming out with the V2. Just sayin...
It does seem that anything with a distributor in the front was more problematic. I’ve gotten lots of messages about guys with other engines having the same issues too. This sniper 2 has been good so far. I went to great lengths to make the first one work and I’ve installed a lot of stand alones over the years and really never had issues. So this was a surprise to me.
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829- Someone on farcebook mentioned that if your harness wires cross over the spark plug wires (a common situation for GM guys), that is another common source of RFI as well.
we have the sniper 1 on our 454 powered 38 chevy truck in uk been messing around with it for 3 months with multiple problems ie new display 2 pressure regulators blocked injectors from the factory it still dont run well glad the sniper 2 seems much better, always loved holley products but not the sniper 1
I agree! The sniper 2 is still working well for me. I know a lot of issues are user related or installer caused but a lot aren’t either.
Freakin SHY NA built and or sourced crap, I've read SO MANY issues with these setups
Yeah a lot of people have a similar experience and it’s a shame from a big name like Holley.
Was thinking of getting Sniper 2 Now I don't know
HOWELL EFI uses proven GM off the shelf parts, NONE of all this BS folks are dealing with
I’ve never heard of Howell efi. I’ll have to look into them.
My mechanic had me order a Sniper 2BBL from Summit, but then he put off the installation for 6 months (COVID), so the Sniper was already 3 months out of warranty (according to Summit) before it was installed. I've put 12,000 miles on the Sniper 2BBL and it still stalls at every intersection, so I know it's not "learning" or self-tuning. Neither Summit nor Holley will back me up. Probably time to go back to a carb.... UPDATE: I got a set of Davis United Ignition (DUI) "Live Wires" and the Sniper 2BBL did not stall today. The Live Wires are shielded for no RF noise. Shielding the DUI coil and distributor may improve things, further. Lesson learned: a Holley Sniper NEEDS these wires to run properly, so put you order in with performancedistributors.com
I’ve read a lot of similar issues. If you are willing to email me a log I can see if there is anything I can do in with tuning to help.
Swap to HOWELL EFI it's ALL PROVEN GM technology & the company is built & run by a guy that actually worked in the GM engineering department WHILE the system was designed & used in production
I got one at work thats similar right now. Starter might be the best thing on it. Turbo not turbo-ing Transmission not transmitting U joints not very jointy And a whole bunch of rubber being not very bouncy. And a whole list of other minor things. I know how you feel, happy monday to you sir, may the parts gods be speedy for you and have everything on hand 😎
Haha thanks! Sounds like a Monday for you too!
Someone has a case of the mondays!
All day!
You got this 😂
The power of positive thinking! Thanks!
What size shop do you have length width and height ?
30x36 with 13 ft vaulted ceilings.
Took mine apart and only one bungee strap was off and the other was missing. Any idea where I can find a replacement bungee strap?
Local ford dealer should have one if not try tasca ford parts online.
I actually haven't had much trouble with mine with RFI. I have a 94 GMC with a 454. OG sniper with hyperspark. Only problem im having now is my fault I think. I put the o2 sensor behind the connection point on the header and i just cooked my 3rd one. I'm in western Pa.
It seems some people never have any issues. I feel like gm’s had less issues due to distributor location vs fords. Moving it to the side was a solution. I’ve heard of lots of o2 sensor issues too.
nice shed!!!!
Thank you!
Nice video thank you. From what I seen is you have to have 50k or more subscribers for Holley to answer phones...
I’m thankful for summit racing that’s for sure!
As someone who has installed a sniper 1 in the last year. Mine has had zero issues out of the box. But ive seen so many struggling with the ecu resetting or cutting out. So i agree holley should have a better quality control of their units. I will probably do a sniper 2 on my other project im building. But good breakdown!
Mine initially was running great but then one day it just decided to act up.
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 if i had to wager I’d say theres a crappy solder connection or a cheap chip in then that is the cause of issues like yours. By the time holley realized it they are underwater in customer service. Hopefully the 2 is a better quality unit. Only time will tell
I agree. Even summit told me they had seen a lot of the same issues!
It's still not plug-n-play and their customer service still sucks if you have less than 1K RUclips subscribers.....The ECM is still part of the throttle body instead of separate so you can put it in a cooler location and when you have to send it back for repair, your car waits weeks....I'll try the Killshot before ever considering a Sniper...
There are definitely some downsides to the first gen designs. The second gen seems to address some of them. I actually was in talks with aces about a test unit and had downloaded the software. But then they kind of disappeared.
I have 1st gen sniper - works great, but I read, re-read, and followed the installation manual.
I've put off running this on my stock IH 345 (currently a 2bbl holley street avenger 2300).after hearing about how many dead ECUs and issues they've had. Would you say now is a good time to finally pull the trigger on an old stock IH v8?
If you are buying one so far the sniper 2 seems like the best bet. There is also ace’s efi set ups. No personal experience but I see people having luck with them.
Needed this video for reference 🫡
Glad it helps!
I’m from pa also lol👍 I bought a car with the sniper 1 original unit I want to get sniper 2 or just go to a carb. Is this unit reliable in your opinion I know it hasn’t been out long…
So far it seems to be! I think it’s much improved over the first get sniper! I’ve only put a few hundred miles on it but the first gen started acting up quickly and so far so good. Are you having issues with yours?
Yes with my sniper 1 I hate the throttle feel so stiff like you can’t just lightly push throttle… anyhow I’m having hesitation when I start off the car wants to die if I give it any throttle when taking off till I get to around 2,000 rpm.. or when I come to a stop and let off throttle it wants to die n cut out basically hesitation problem. Then sometimes it’ll run out nice once I get into higher rpms. The kid I bought it from was running stock 30 or 40 psi pump. So I put in 100 psi pump. It runs a little better of course it has built in regulator I was thinking iac valve or something I’m not messing with it though just upgrading
Also summit only has 2 snipers left in stock not sure how that can happen already but oh well lol
good watch. im building a 408w now for my 68 stang. i like watching build videos just to drill in the steps so i don't forget something lol. that side car in the background is badazz btw.
Thank you!
very nice.
Thanks!
stumbled across your channel. good looking truck. sweet setup you have. what engine/turbo setup you running?
It’s a 347 sbf, with a semi custom turbo kit. I used one eBay turbo header one eBay shorty flipped forward and built the rest. It’s a 76mm turbo.
cool cool. figured out the 347 soon after. started watching your other vids :P i did similar with my turbo setup. ebay shorties flipped forward, chopped the merge and welded on v-bands, then built the crossover and up-pipe. get to do it all over again soon with the 408w. how's that sniper 2 treating you so far? it doesn't have any sensor inputs does it? any programmable outputs you could use to setup the boost control? i run a 1250 super sniper now that has the extra 3/3 in/out.@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829
The sniper two really doesn’t have much. It’s basically like the base first gen sniper. You can set up a two step. So far it’s working great though!
ok, ya that's what i kinda figured. was just update base sniper. kinda hoped that had added some inputs/outputs to it and would increase the amount that came on the future "super sniper 2". i'll be moving on to port injection anyway, but just thought it would be nice for others. being able to add fuel pressure sensor is huge imo. @@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829
It’s sad how inconsistent the sniper is .. I have a good one running off Hyperspark .. works great on my 67 Camaro with a 383 stroker .. it’s -5 Celsius here in Canada and it runs great even now till the snow comes !! But if I ever need to I’ll upgrade just cause
I see lots of people with the same issues. I really think it’s just overly sensitive. The sniper 2 seems to work great so far. Holley needs to get the link cable done and the Bluetooth module out. I also wish it had more inputs and outputs.
@@dirtytruckhotrodshop7829 no doubt it’s an improvement just simply the ECU quality .. I wonder tho if someone had a side by side comparison of both units functioning well if there’s any real world difference .. !?
I think the xflow would show a power gain over the sniper 2 because of flowing more air. But that probably depends on if your engine needs or could use the additional air flow.
Sad commentary for Ford. I retired from Ford skilled trades & have lost confidence in them. They seem to have a lot of problems with too many things. I never take either one of my Fords to the stealership.
Sorry to hear that! It wasn’t a great experience for her but we got it all buttoned up for her!
I like the truck!!! So awesome!
Glad you like it!
New to the channel! Excited to tune in brotha!
Ty!
The attention to detail shown here is why I would struggle as an engine builder. Glad I have a damn good builder in my corner for future builds.
Ty!
I got a DNA44 and it leaked at the diaphragm on the dyno. Tried re-sealing it and it would not seal. Was leaking from the dome to the base and leaking co2 into the compressor housing from where I had the boost reference hose. Sent it back and got my $ back on Amazon, sprung for the Tial
These have been good, but I hear of lots of people with pinched or ripped diaphragms.
Love to see your little girl helping. That's how I learned. Need more of that now a days.
Thank you!
How do you think this system would be on a 355 cu in crate motor from Jegs. I plan on running EFI for my 72 Blazer. I just want it to drive and be reliable. Naturally aspirated, pump gas
I think it will work well! So far this 2nd gen system seems to be a huge improvement over the first system.
DEPENDABLE >>>>>>>> Swap to HOWELL EFI it's ALL PROVEN GM technology & the company is built & run by a guy that actually worked in the GM engineering department WHILE the system was designed & used in production @editrento1
It’s still noisy ?
I think the 1st gen snipers just had issues.
Thrust rollers looking a little tired too... Retired Hyster/Yale road tech and I don't miss it.
That’s exactly what I do for a living! Hyster/Yale field tech. This is a Clark though :(.
I also just switched from the sniper to sniper 2 and Agree Summit has been great .
Hopefully the sniper 2 is a good experience for you! So far it works much better than the previous version.
What is that? I sometimes here it when I’m pressing down on the gas, sounds like a low rattle but stops when I let go of the gas. Is this the same thing?
These are carriage rollers on a forklift. But a bad pulley on a car could make that type of noise!
THE FLOAT BOWLS ARE WAY TOO SMALL ON THE BRAWLER CARBURETORS ???
Float bowls are standard holley bowls.
