Hi Andrew, have commented on your review before. (Make my own suspension surf trucks with elastomer bush). Anyway, one thing to note is the weight difference between all of these surf truck designs. Anything with a lot of added mechanical parts such as springs, clamps, tension arms etc. all adds to the weight of the device, and subsequent energy that is needed to drive it. All surf trucks have limits and benefits, apart from the weight turn radius is generally the other limiting factor as well as adjustment, that is can the truck be tuned in to suit your desired outcomes. If someone is buying a surf truck they want one that is both light weight, and also tension adjustable, with a good turn radius. Smoothstar - Great turn radius, adjustable adaptor and truck, heavy. Carver C7 - Good turn radius, adjustable adaptor and truck, medium weight. Carver CX - Good turn radius, adjustable truck, light weight very responsive (almost twitchy). Swelltech - Full 360 turn radius, whilst this is impressive it is also dangerous for the inexperienced rider as the low turn resistance can lead to the wheels tucking under if you hit a rock. Tension can not be adequately adjusted (one size fits all). Heavy weight due to the number of mechanical components, but still very loose and responsive (too loose for my liking). YOW - Never ridden. But would say between a Smoothstar and Carver C7? Waterborne Adaptor - Great turn radius when tuned in with normal adjustable truck. Light weight and very responsive design with a very smooth and as they themselves describe it buttery feel. Not adjustable through the adaptor but can be adjusted with the actual skate truck. I rode the Waterbourne on a Z Flex surf a go go. WOW, I have ridden a lot of surfskates but never have I set foot on one straight out of the box that was dialed in perfectly from the get go like the Z Flex. And yes the adaptor was as smooth and buttery as the advertising claims. Very responsive, very pumpable, very carvable, very natural and surfy feel likely equivalent to what would be termed mid length surfboard surfing style, but able to be driven much harder by more experienced riders, and likely with a shorter wheel base much more radically. Keep up the great reviews and if you want to sell the Waterbourne (cheaply?) I will buy it.
Great review and really well researched! Your turn at 15:30 was awesome. Stoked that you know about us.If you do E-Board reviews you could seriously consider reviewing our Surf and Rail on an electric board! I know that it sounds crazy, but a lot of people in the esk8 community are taking notice to the benefits of our adapters on eboards. Anyways thanks for the review and hopefully hear from you soon!
Hey Waterbourne 🤙 well wonderful to meet you guys ✊ and let me say from the outset Congratulations 💥 on a wonderful front carving truck system and your Rail Adaptor, I was actually very pleasantly surprised on the robustness build quality and the design of the Waterbourne truck carver ...with its urethane square return PU that forms your resistance feedback on the carve, and I must also commend you for getting involved with our great Aussie mates Penny board what a wonderful partnership which has produced an incredibly robust all-round awesome carving board the Highline series 🤙 Hey no worries, you can get in touch with me if I my email gmail address in the “Description Field” of the video. I’m more than happy to review your Waterbourne Rail Adapter as well ;) yes this is certainly the go for the eSk8 community. Coming from the surfing / skating background I understand the full potential of what these trucks can do, similarly along with what Mellow Boards have in Germany getting involved with Carver USA in the front truck setup ....it’s an endless amount of fun that can be had with the right front carving trucks supported by the electric motors of a electric skateboard. For sure you guys along with Carver / SmoothStar/ SurfSkate, this is an incredibly untapped area where potentially you could get a lot of exposure. Thank you very much for popping in ....very humbled indeed ✊ and congratulations on a wonderful product, and thank you so much for such kind words on my video and my carving, have a great day will be in touch at some point soon ;) cheers Andrew⚔️
@@zulupenman I'll have to go ahead and shoot you an email then! Lets get an eboard review together! We never thought that the Surf Adapter would have application on eboards, honestly sounds a little too intense, but people tried it out of their own curiosity and really liked it. Then when we launched the rail some hardcore DIY guy from ESK8 Fight Club took the Adapters to 30 mph and reported improved stability. It was a long time before I got an evolve board (again shout out to the Aussies) under my feet with Adapters on it, and I really couldn't believe that I was able to ride with such control, then carve circles before hitting 26 mph again
Hey Sean :) great to meet you and congratulations welcome aboard Andrew Penman and RUclips ⚔️ thank you for subscribing you’ll get your value for sure ✊ I’m about to embark on a whole lot of surfskate videos ….. surf training tutorials the SmoothStar Manta Ray and Filipe Toledo #77 plus coming up … the new Mark Richards Street surfskate from Quicksilver. Thank you so much you made my day I love these Street Carving boards especially being a surfer for 42 years … without a doubt the SmoothStar is the BMW of the whole lot …period. The Penny Board Highline series is a great little board is a nice fun board the decks a bit too small for emulating surfing and foot stance or a surf training technique tool …but it has the well known classic Penny Board composite plastic deck .. plastic great for skate parks etc…. If you’re seriously Sean into these streetcarvers the surf training surfskates just go straight for the SmoothStar, let me know where you live they do export and ship to the states but it’s got to be a order through email direct to the SmoothStar website without a doubt you’ll see the difference straight away in a sec … incredible big nice solid decks great shapes contours cambers … once you get on those you’ll never look back ;) hope that helps Sean great to have you aboard awesome cheers Andrew ⚔️
@@zulupenman Hey, Andrew, thanks for all of this great info! Much appreciated! I also surfed, but only for a few years in high school - owned Gordon and Smith and Hollow Wave boards. But, I stopped surfing and skateboarding after high school - 46 years ago and just got back into skateboarding a few months ago. I just purchased and installed the Waterborne surf and rail adapters to my 32" Penny - I took your review seriously about wishing that Penny used a longer deck for their High-Line. But, I've not taken it for a ride yet. But, I managed to take my new Arbor Flagship Zeppelin 32" longboard out for a spin at the beach last Friday AND sprain my wrist from a fall. :-/ But, I can definitely see myself getting into surf skating. You make it look like a blast, and my wife would feel better about me cruising about on a surf skate. Your demo in this video was so chill - great vibe, man. Thanks again, Andrew! I look forward to watching more of your vids and learning more about surf skating!
I just recently got one to make up for not being in the water and it was the cheapest option for a decent “surfskate” .. It’s fun but I do regret not holding out for a week or two to purchase something longer and closer to a surfing feel. You’ve done a good review on it and I just wish I’d seen it sooner!
Hey Spreiters Travel ;) awesome thank you for popping in and watching my travel videos awesome ... opps that’s awesome twice LOL thank you so much ✊ get yourself an EBoard this little thing will change your life cheers Andrew⚔️
Awesome job on this review, I run a photography channel but one of my most popular videos is my comparison review of the penny nickel vs Landyachtz dinghy. Im a grown up like you but I love skating. Im gonna check out more of your backlog vids. respect
Hey Ray, wow thank you Bro ;) as one review to another thank you for awesome feedback. and a big congratulations :) 👌 what a wonderful YT channel you have ... just watched the Penny Nickle vs Landyachtz Dingy... Ray great review it’s just so nice to see someone so passionate about carving Skateboards. I’ve sub’d my man ✊ I will be checking out a lot of your camera videos reviews and looking forward to watching your upcoming content. Keep up the great work Ray your editing music everything is first class 💥💥💥 you should be so proud of you achievements. Definitely love the Penny Board bring Australian and I love the Landyachtz too from UK ...my man get yourself one of these SmoothStar Carving Skateboards for you and your daughter ..obviously you are amazing rider and have been riding for years and years. They will ship to the states from SmoothStar Sydney AUSTRALIA it’s the ultimate carving board... The Penny Board Highline Carver I reviewed here was very impressive ride indeed but for my height and weight I felt it was a little bit small and the waterborne front truck was doing all the heavy lifting as it’s amazing mechanism on the front ;) keep up the great work Ray awesome nice to meet you bro ✊ respect 👌 cheers Andrew Penman EBoards Reviews RUclips⚔️
@@zulupenman Hey thanks so much for taking the time to check out my channel. I've really been curious about those carving boards I rode a carver once and it was quite a workout. Sometimes I'll put taller risers on my board and loosen the trucks so I can lean super deep like carving a wave lol.
Awesome review. I'm a skater myself and I will agree on the foot issue with the grip. I have a penny classic myself and I hardly ride it because of the lack of grip. I'm 160 pounds and I probably would agree with you on the length.
Hey Trippy ;) hey great to meet you my man 👌 well thank you so much for that awesome for you that made my day. As a skater you know how much work goes into these rides and getting tripod set up and microphone .. dam hot hard work. Look I love this Penny High Line board I still ride it ... The waterborne truck at the front is exceptional ... that said ...you are correct in terms of emulating a surf feel and as a surf training tool ...was a little bit small and short and can provide a nice ride ..but I do prefer that SmoothStar feel, thanks for your invaluable feedback as a skater that greatly appreciated ✊ nice to meet you cheers Andrew ⚔️
I browsed your videos and playlist to see if I could find a definitve recommendation for a carving boards that is the most surf-like. I mostly surf but snowboard too. Long flowy carves but snappy tight turns where needed is the holy grail but function precedes form or fashion in my book. What is the best surf skate board for advanced riders staying tuned up?
hey Micheal, sorry for late reply. Okay there’s no question here on any confusion the best carving Street board for surf emulation is going to be 100% SmoothStar. Why, well Felipe Toledo used to get the world title nearly and he’s been riding these for about eight years. 10 of the top pro surfers in the world and the men and women’s WSL are use the SmoothStar to train because of the exact feel of the fin the water is absolutely incredible. Secondly the smoothStar board size is critically important the Carver has a very tiny deck more for an adolescent kid or a skater ….as SmoothStar has a big wide deck which requires the exact foot Stance to mimic the foot stands on a surfboard… in Sydney we have an incredible surf culture beach culture in every spot has world-class local surfers everyone his anyone rides a SmoothStar when you see someone riding that board black grip tape with a woodgrain stripe in the centre you know it’s a SmoothStar … and that guys are serious surf skater or surfer it’s like the BMW of surf skateboards…. i’m 5 foot 10 and I ride the Filip Toledo hash 77 signature model… as well as the Manta Ray… they do ship overseas to California if that’s where you are but you got to email Rhett and they shipped to the states, The last time I went down there they were over supplied with orders they couldn’t facilitate the worldwide orders they having at least 3000 SmoothStar’s going out a week so just check in with him there a sort after surf skate tool / board on the market … Watch my channel of the next month I’m going to be testing the Mark Richards Quiksilver twin fin retro surf skate ….it’s not a surf skate front truck but it looks like I can carve quite well I’ll put it up against the Kmart cheap is the Ezzy cruiser and see how branding and money makes a difference if at all have a great day cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey JL Kruhek ;) Nice to meet you then, and thank you so much for watching my video. Look this is a really nice carving surf skateboard, The Penny High Lline ... Born and bred Australian design really nice plastic deck that just is funky and works well. But if you are a surfer and you are willing to train for your surfing the SmoothStar boards are a better option but this Penny Board High Line carver certainly the best all rounder carver board I’ve ridden for awhile ;) cheers great to meet you Andrew⚔️
@@zulupenman thanks dude for the honest reviews! I checked them all and learned Smoothstar is the way to go. I had a penny when i was living in aussie the small one,it was also great to take it everywhere i went for the travels, thats why i love she simplicity of Penny. Im going to decieiding between Smoothstar Manta Ray or Toledo PRo, 184cm and a bit over 80kg, love the design of Manta ray but I feel the Toledo Pro will offer more freedom for those snapy carves, powerslides, etc. Cheers
hey Ric ;) Nice to meet you my man fantastic thanks for the awesome feedback. Look don’t even go anywhere else in the other carving boards arena the SmoothStar is the BMW of surf training Boards they also are the best street carvers for cement waves and the patented mechanism is first class, and where it absolutely excels over the Carver / Penny Highline and SurfSkate... and besides even that ... the size of the deck is the big difference...the deck is massive compared to the others ...and it’s a really nice foot stance so you get the exact same feet position as on a surfboard the carve of the SmoothStar is well ... we are talking chalk and cheese .... check out another Sydneysider surfer Kales Broccoli... he does a great analysis of the turning action and the mechanism mine blowing... in Sydney here there is a serious mad crazy beach culture is phenomenal and when you see a dude carving ... and when you look at what they’re riding ....straight away you see that signature SmoothStar deck with a stripe across the middle you know this is a serious rider ....get one as soon as you can you’ll never look back cheers Andrew⚔️
@@zulupenman yeah mate grabbed one yesterday, only wish I had seen your other video when you compared the Toledo, Manta and dolphin as I ended up getting a flying fish which now in hind sight the Manta would of been a better fit for my height and stance but that's all right I'll just have to up grade the deck when they have some in stock. Love the vids thanks again.
Hey Guy great to meet you, look this is a good question… I would 100% only recommend the SmoothStar as a surfer they are an incredible piece of engineering and use by 10 of the Top pro surfers in the world including Filipe Toledo they are chalk and cheese over anything else they larger size deck which emulates the foot stance better and is exact to the surfboard stance better. If you’re not a surfer though you’re a skater I would definitely go the highline Penny it is definitely a really nice carver find the Carver decks too small and they are too wiggly as their rear trucks are too loose and they give a wiggle affect which is not really the ultimate carving feel ;) you got the added benefit of the polymer plastic deck which is more protective in skate park so when you fall off etc Carver wooden decks end up looking like a chewed pencil after a few summers lol .. yeah but I was very impressed with the Penny highline Carver it is absolutely a beautiful mechanism with a polished white finish and the black contrast deck … or that sky blue ocean one I had just absolutely beautiful ;) hope that helps Aussie made product too really great design. Hope that helps 👍Have an awesome day Guy cheers Andrew ⚔️
I have one of these and the fun you can have in a small space is off the chart. A real CV lockdown buster. It definitely has a surf feeling to me. I've not ridden a Smooth Star, but i'm really happy with the board. I am small at 5'7, weigh 68kgs (on a good day) & I'm an intermediate surfer (possibly higher on the odd day) so maybe that has an influence on the board fell. Great review mate, loved it, keep them coming! Oh and you're shredding for 60 year old - amazing!
Hey eSkate Hub ;) hey thank you so much for popping in very humbled. Wow thank you so very much for the kind comments 👍👌 on my video and my riding etc. I haven’t ridden these SurfSkate Skateboards for about 7 months as I’ve been overseas in Europe...so this were my “first runs” without any practice, or edits ... just goes to show you how easy they are to ride. I’m a 60-year-old dude and it makes for an amazing testimony to how much fun you can have these carving trucks surf skateboards ... yes putting one of these on the front of a Electric short board like a DIY one would be in awesome advantage for carving around the urban CBD city runs ... Mellow Drive have done it with the Carver boards (in bed together) lol ...at the front truck that seriously the Smoothstar or this penny is a better option it has a better movement... thank you so much again you’ve made my day. Watch out next week I’ve got me riding for a week now improved a great deal more on the new SmoothStar’s “Manta Ray” that will be an epic Full Unbox that’s the one to get ...the BMW of the whole bunch of these carving boards ;) Cheers man thx again Andrew⚔️
Hi Kyle check out my shakboard Z1 front truck ( GullWing Sidewinder II front truck ) on the HD video section in the middle of the ShakaBoard z1 full Unbox inbox to see it in detail... that is seriously the most perfect front truck for electric skateboard... put on 90mm wheels on it it’s the bomb 💣cheers Andrew⚔️
Does the board hold up pretty good for your size? Any deck flex when riding? I’m around the same size as you and don’t wanna get it if I’m to big for it.
Hey mate, great review. You mentioned the weight of the rider. I'm about 90 - 95kg (I think)... How would my heavier weight affect the ride do you think? Is this due to the board or adapter? I'm just looking for something to play on flat with and buzzing around, not surf training. I'm toying with this high-line or just whacking the adaptor on to a 32" board.
Hey SeoulSurfer ;) Nice to meet you bro, yes it’s interesting the Penny High-Line a nice board goes well I love the plastic composite deck and it is a nice shape. It’s definitely fine and carves well does the job perfectly ..however if you are a surfer it doesn’t work as a surf tool for training as well is this well, “fitness for purpose” that is, if you’re not a surfer it will work beautifully, and lots of fun. The return spring mechanism if the SmoothStar is a much better resistance feel, the rubber designs which springs it back quicker it’s not as effective but essentially works. I think fir a lighter rider around 70g or shorter height rider.. this would work very well. Cheers Andrew👌⚔️
I'm a beginner surfer and with beaches being closed and having to stay home. I wanted to get a surfskate. My partner brought me one of these but after watching your review, I'm a little unsure now. I skated as a kid but haven't been on a board in over 15yrs as well. What are your thoughts? Cheers
I got my Penny High Line. I absolutely love it! I put a video of my first ride up on my channel. It’s total crap compared to your vids, but meh. I bought the board after watching your videos. I don’t think I’ll be surfing any time soon in Memphis, so it’s fine fir me.
A double overhead ;) thank you so much you made me smile made my day thank you, sound like you’re a surfer if you are definitely the SmoothStar the go .... the Penny Highline carver it’s not a bad product at all ...I actually like the the waterborne front truck is very impressive but if you’re into surfing and surf training you can’t beat a SmoothStar Manta Ray ;) or Toledo #77 if your between 5'8 and 6'3" awesome keep shredding cheers Andrew⚔️
Thanks for the information Andrew! Yep, I see it your way. The Smoothstar thruster is the best surf adapter out there! That said, I believe in customized setups that are built around the rider. Stock setups are not meant to suit the riders; they’re just meant to function. The more you know about surfskating and your personal preference the further away you should be from stock setups. That is not to say a stock setup is a good place to start for a beginner, and there’s always the off chance that the stock setup will be perfect for the rider (though that’s very unlikely). Cheers
This looks pretty cool, seems a bit steep at £179 in the uk though 😬😬 i like all the thought and that’s gone into it but for a plastic composite deck and essentially a modified front truck seems pretty dear. Feel like you could build a more conventional cruiser with Indy trucks and some nice soft wheels for a lot less
Hey Joshua great to meet you thanks so much for the feedback, are use all my opening footage with the DGI drone the spark it has such a stable platform and great lens keep watching the rest of my videos you’ll see more epic opening drone footage is have a great day cheers Andrew
Hey man, do you know where one could find a replacement square bushing? I think replacing the bushing would be pretty essential to keep the board lasting a long time, but I don't know where to find one..
Hey James , nice to meet you Bro . Thank you so much for a clever question . Look I’m pretty sure Penny will have them on the website I’ll have a look if not go to skate shop that’s sells the Highline Series they should have them ....,as this is a common wearing out component of the board I can’t imagine not selling them or these things independently. Let me check and get back to you in the meantime happy stating with amazing Penny carver I love my board ... also look at the new SmoothStar they kick ass , have a great day cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey JL 😄👍 what’s the very good question I think it’s actually a very good carving truck system this Waterbourne Truck movement because it uses a “square urethane rubber piece” to spring itself back so there’s no “metal spring” to wear out we just replace the rubber each time it wears out. Just seems to be one of the spots that can wear with the other big-name companies use a metal springs. The main culprit that goes with these and need to be change from time to time is the little “plastic Pocket” piece where the point of the truck goes in and secures and of course the main bearings itself there, but all in all I think this will be a very solid front truck system will give years of use and trouble free maintenance ;) cheers Andrew⚔️
@@zulupenman Yeah it looks great and simple, awsm to just take it anywhere, must be light as compared to normal carvers (smoothstar) :) thanks for the feedback, youu are awesome mate
Hey Bernhard ;) ;) Great to meet you and thanks for popping in I’m so getting back to all my comments here on his old videos first of all yes it’s an awesome board the Penny Highline I think for a beginner and learning it has the sufficient carving ability to put you in the right place to get to SmoothStar‘s later it also is it smaller board easy to transport the plastic deck that doesn’t get damaged too badly it’s certainly carves okay don’t get me wrong it does a really nice job with its waterborne front truck which is a brilliant mechanism... but if you are a serious surf trainer now do you want to get into surfing are you want to really carve hard the BMW of the carving boards is the SmoothStars without a doubt but look this will definitely do it’s job is also $150 Australian cheaper than the SmoothStar ;) go for a Bernhard and have a blast you enjoy the sport it’s so much fun 10 times better than going to the gym lol ;) cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey Adrian, great to meet you I’m slowly getting to all these carving board comments so if you’re reading this anyone I’ll get to your comments very soon. Okay Adrian as you know the waterborne is a great surf adapter that the truck goes on ...at this point is really no difference to what standard truck you use the waterborne does all the heavy lifting. It’s a brilliant design and works beautifully I’m so happy that the Australian board company Penny are getting into bed with Waterbourne in and producing a nice front carving truck. Okay having said that, my choice is still the SmoothStars carving boards they are by far the number one surf trainer on the market producing 9 of the top 40 surfers in the world including Filipe Toledo as their main training tool.. One thing you’ll notice with the Carver boards the surf skate and especially the Penny highline they are a very small deck there more of a in my opinion a skate tool they haven’t got the larger size decks like that of the SmoothStar which are super big when you see them in real life have a look at the comparison size on this Penny highline carver video at the end when I hold up the Manta Ray up it’s insanely bigger. It gives you the correct foot stance on your board as in Surfboard and also produces the same drive through the spring system that emulates the Surfboard carving through the water on a wave nearly to perfection. I would muck around if you’re going to get into this game SmoothStar‘s are tge go 👍 when you got one of those people look at you and now you’re a serious surf trainer because it’s like having a BMW under your feet... I know this sounds a bit one-sided but really it’s chalk and cheese once you ride one of these things trust me I’ve converted so many people across to SmoothStars and I get tens of emails a week thanking me for introducing them to his Australian made unbelievably good product ;) they will ship internationally and you just have to go onto the website and send them an email where you are in the world 👍 I hope that helps have an awesome day cheers Andrew⚔️
I'm new to this surfe style boards. I ordered this as a run carving board with alot of snap and fun ride.. I've have my phantom miles electric board on is way for long rides. But, how do you feel this is more of a fun ride and for short distance ride ? I like those small boards and stances. Love your video 🙏
Hi mate, great review. Also really liking the carving/surf trainer comparisons you have done. Just wondering how you think the Waterborne truck system would go on a deck of similar size and shape to the Smoothstar Manta Ray. Would it be as good or close to the smoothstar? Thanks.
Would thins board be good for an adult that is somewhat beginner to longboarding? I learned on and am used to a 40-something inch longboard but would like to get something smaller, lighter, and overall just a bit different. :)
Have not riden this type of Penny but I have recently purchased a Penny 32" cruiser to complement my longboard (44" Lush Bahari). Its a lovely little board for cruising around on when the long board is just a little too big. The nose and concave also means you can pop the occasional ollie but it is definitely more of a cruiser. Inexpensive too.
Hey Sarah, nice to meet you Dudess ...Okay in terms of Longboarding and these carving boards there very different creatures ...this is like having a very tight turning truck on the front of your board bit like a shopping trolley LOL ...but does provide amazing carve and once you master this it’s addictive and you can’t stop riding them ...Yes 40" something longboard is alot longer ... my advice is if you’re after a carving board and not a traditional longboard and you maybe intend even giving surfing a go ... get a SmoothStar bigger deck by about 10 inches . .. very nice product easy to pick up and learn ;) awesome board 👊;) cheers Andrew⚔️
Hi mate, great review! Have you tried riding the board without the waterbourne system? Could it be taken off and put back on easily for stability on longer rides?
Hey man, thanks for this super detailed review. I'm just starting to shortboard and looking for something to help with pumping and turning motions. I'm 6', 68kg and a bit concerned about the wheelbase. I can't afford a smoothstar with the shipping so I'm wondering if this a "decent" intro surf trainer? Thanks again!!!
Honestly, the wheelbase isn't much of a problem for heavier folk. The trucks have a divot in the sides of the waterborne truck that heavily negates wheelbite, and by turning standards, this board is extremely responsive.
Hey Simon, great to meet you man. ;) okay the board weighs 3.36 kg and the wheels are 59mm ... really nice street carver board light to carry around in my backpack great portable carving board;) hope that helps cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey Sam ;) Great to meet you man, and thank you so much for popping in and give you your feedback ;) Penny boards have gone a long way over and above to produce it’s really high dynamic portable great carving Surf Skate board... but the heavy lifting for you must go to Waterbourne truck system really nice nearly as close to perfect as you can get, The smooth star in my opinion is the best mechanism that this is very impressive indeed. Okay to get in this squeak removed you can put some oil on the urethane square resistant and that will get a bit of this squeak removed also you can try soap .. just rub the cake a soap all over the square urethane resistor and then slide it back onto the bolt, congratulations on purchasing this Penny Highline Series they are really nice to ride. Cheers awesome Andrew ⚔️
Hey SMS SMS :-) Great to meet you my man, well thanks for asking you this question and yes it is a brilliant board for learning the Highline Penny if you want to get onto a learning carving board this is not a bad price entry point it’s a nice solid board being plastic the penny won’t scratch or dent it’s pretty much indestructible. I love the waterborne front truck is actually a nice piece of engineering and this is certainly a perfect fit the space for you to get into this particular carving board area. Although, once you get experienced I solidly recommend the SmoothStar they are even another 4 levels up from this in terms of deck size and carving agility it’s a beautiful machine there only about $100 more and it’s well worth it to have that as second board as well... go for it awesome cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey Shawn, nice to meet you bro. Look it has a slight more squeak sound then say the smoothstar and Carver’s spring systems but really you can’t hear it from standing on and riding it I would definitely recommend this Penny High Line board if you want a nice alternative to the surfskate of course the carver is good to .. but the decks are too small I don’t think they replicate the correct surf feel .... in doesn’t have that same feel as a SmoothStar Manta Ray it Toledo #77 which are my favourite carving boards period.....but having said that this Penny board with this Waterbourne front truck is pretty dam good there getting close to the mechanism feel of the SmoothStar ... so in the word .....essentially no .....you can’t really hear any squeak they’re pretty good ;) cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey Kyle, go for the GullWing Sidewinder II to the from ofyiur EBoard the same on my Shaka board z1 folding EBoard ... friggin brilliant!!! $60 US a pair ... no death wobbles incredible turning carving ratio I love it... The smoothStars / carvers and surfskate trucks are toooooooo loose for electric skateboard ...cheers Andrew⚔️
I've got Surf adapters on two of my Esk8 boards and I love them. They immediately felt intuitive and the improved control and turning ability is huge. I find that it's surprisingly really stable at speed, probably because it's trailing the wheels so far behind the pivot. I use caliber2 trucks with purple nipples, wheels vary.
Hey Joe, great to hear from you my man !!! I’m loving your channel watching all your latest videos you’ve really got some awesome content there my man keep it up. Great to hear from you thank you so much for kind comment that’s awesome. Look forward to showing you the SmoothStar the best surf Training tool thus time it’s the “Manta Ray” ... you’ll love it ;) you can buy these things from Australia to USA just follow description field in the videos ... you’ll love it 👌⭐️ epic workout lots of fun another angle to any skateboard riding you’ve ever experienced before ;) Great to hear from you Joe cheers man Andrew ⚔️
Hey Bukephalus .... lol ... funny stuff you sound like you’re -an Aussie... You can get this Penny board if you want it’s an okay carver ... The waterborne truck system is doing all the heavy lifting here ....I’m not knocking does the job, however get yourself a smoothstar out performs this hands down....cheers Andrew⚔️
Hey Imbehonst :) Thanks for your question awesome, look in terms of the surfing industry and surf training and the top surfers in the world you can’t go past their choice of the SmoothStar it really is the number one in this arena. When you look at the deck size that’s the difference ....that’s the crucial part of these surfskate boards including the Carver are just too small their decks there more for Young adolescent or just general skaters... The size of the deck from the SmoothStar is designed for real surf training serious enthusiasts 👍 okay price they’re only $349 AUS I think just check the website out they will ship internationally there’s an issue with serving the West Coast of California due to carvers control and monopoly there ... however they will directly shipped to your address just go online send them an email ;) there’s nothing wrong with a penny highline Carver if you’re a skater and you want to go to skate parks but if you want to seriously get into your surf style carving and more dynamic turns you can’t beat this SmoothStars mechanism in my opinion hope that helps cheers Andrew⚔️
hey Davy, great to get your question and feedback thanks so much, okay if the Penny board Carver is Australian born and bred it’s an awesome carving board nice plastic deck it’s robust a hearty beast it’s a nice carving board to ride but it is a little bit small in foot stance for someone who wants to improve their surfing and surfs too ...but for you if you’re not surfing there’s no need for that concern ... the waterborne front truck is brilliant I can thoroughly recommend this product it is nice ...but if you really want to get the BMW version of these carving boards no look no further than the SmoothStar MantaRay it is incredible, how tall are you ? and how much do you weigh ? if you’re over say around 100 kg and over 6’1" ...I wouldn’t go to the carver from penny board ie this highline series... I’d go for the SmoothStar mantraRay it #77.... check out my other SmoothStar’s carving videos in the playlist section on my channel have a great day, cheers Andrew ⚔️
With all due respect dude but you do realise penny boards are more for kids i had my first skateboard way back in 1979 when i was 7 and it was very much like a penny board i wouldn't even consider one now due to my size and weight these ones are for kids not adults. You do some great reviews though but this one i think is slightly out of context for this companies core market.
Hey Lucipherous ;) thanks so much for popping in and yes the Waterbourne is amazing adapter full marks to this product quite a nice device. I don’t know if you surf or not or you’re a skater but without a doubt look at the Australian born and bred SmoothStar carving boards the choice of training surf device for 11 of the top 40 Pro Surfers he world including Filipe Toledo, they have a much bigger deck they emulate the feel of a surfboard 10 times more than these other skate carvers ... The mechanism is a patent spring system that blows away the Carver design and gives you the full resistance carve through the turn.... exactly like the fin carving through a wave if you’re serious about carving Skateboards the SmoothStar is the BMW of this invention and been around for 16 years..... I urge you to try one it’ll blow your mind, awesome thanks for popping in cheers Andrew⚔️
Great review and test report, Andrew. Much appreciated. Liked and subscribed.
But, I can definitely see myself getting into surf skating.
Nice detailed review! Very easy to follow and understand the positives and negatives of this board.
Watching this guy from Swizerland. Cool video, I will buy one. Coming back to Australia very soon!
Hey Spreiters Travel ;) awesome thank you for popping in and watching my travel videos awesome ... opps that’s awesome twice LOL thank you so much ✊ get yourself an EBoard this little thing will change your life cheers Andrew⚔️
Andrew Penman you mean an Electro-Board or a Surf Skate?
+ Have you recently been to Italy? Cause Switzerland is not far from the Amalfi Coast btw
Hey andrew, could you please try and put the trucks and adapter system on a longer wheel base board to give the system a review itself?
@@zulupenman I might actually get this thing to have it
I added grip tape on mine

That’s awesome trippy perfect;) ✊
Secondly the smoothStar board size is critically important the Carver has a very tiny deck more for an adolescent kid or a skater ….as SmoothStar has a big wide deck which requires the exact foot Stance to mimic the foot stands on a surfboard… in Sydney we have an incredible surf culture beach culture in every spot has world-class local surfers everyone his anyone rides a SmoothStar when you see someone riding that board black grip tape with a woodgrain stripe in the centre you know it’s a SmoothStar … and that guys are serious surf skater or surfer it’s like the BMW of surf skateboards…. i’m 5 foot 10 and I ride the Filip Toledo hash 77 signature model… as well as the Manta Ray… they do ship overseas to California if that’s where you are but you got to email Rhett and they shipped to the states, The last time I went down there they were over supplied with orders they couldn’t facilitate the worldwide orders they having at least 3000 SmoothStar’s going out a week so just check in with him there a sort after surf skate tool / board on the market … Watch my channel of the next month I’m going to be testing the Mark Richards Quiksilver twin fin retro surf skate ….it’s not a surf skate front truck but it looks like I can carve quite well I’ll put it up against the Kmart cheap is the Ezzy cruiser and see how branding and money makes a difference if at all have a great day cheers Andrew⚔️
sweet as, my next indulgence most definitely
Cheers
@@zulupenman Its an honour to meet you! Cant wait to surf on concrete with one of these Smoothstars :P
Penny really nailed it with the design of this board! We couldn't be happier with the work they did on it because it just feels so good
What about the swelltech?
Nice review mate exactly what I was looking for. I guess I'll have to fork out for the smoothstar
hey Ric ;) Nice to meet you my man fantastic thanks for the awesome feedback.
Love the vids thanks again.
would you suggest buying the Penny High Line or one of the Carver board?
That's some dope carving! Wouldn't mind putting some belt drives on that thing XD
Look up the Riptide R1 Black!
Or the metal one you used for comparison!! Just on the front of my E-boards!!
I bought it so black. The matte finish of the board began to peel after 30 minutes of skating. This is normal? What is it made for? Spoils the look.
Yes we were there
Fantastic ;) Great to meet you guys ;)
Added comment. Get rid of the cupped bush washers and use flat washers for smoother skate truck action.
Shiuld try an Adrenalin urban surfer
Does the board hold up pretty good for your size? Any deck flex when riding? I’m around the same size as you and don’t wanna get it if I’m to big for it.
Hey mate, great review.
You mentioned the weight of the rider. I'm about 90 - 95kg (I think)... How would my heavier weight affect the ride do you think? Is this due to the board or adapter?
I'm just looking for something to play on flat with and buzzing around, not surf training.
I'm toying with this high-line or just whacking the adaptor on to a 32" board.
Is this a good surfskate for distances over the 30km?
thanks for the review! been waiting for one. looks small too bad...
Awesome review Andrew! 👊☠️👊
How did u get that airborne view in the first 10 seconds
As soon as I saw the square rubber thing I knew I'd need to buy spares, can they be purchased? Did you find out?
@@highplainsdrifter842 waterborneskateboards.com/products/replacement-surf-adapter-bushing
I wonder about the durability of that carve truck tho. any thoughts?
So it is a good cruiser but not a very good carving board. Would you recommend it for a beginner with carving boards or as a cruiser??
What deck size and wheelbase would you say is ideal? Any trucks you'd recommend for the waterborne?
Ciao volevo un consiglio lo vorrei acquistare come primo Surfskate me lo consigli?
So if I were to choose beetween a carver and penny highline surfskate which should I choose for a better surf feel, I am 12 4 ft 11in and 76lbs
I have the same one !
Hi mate, great review!
Have you tried riding the board without the waterbourne system? Could it be taken off and put back on easily for stability on longer rides?
Probably best suited as a kids surf trainer
Hey man, thanks for this super detailed review. I'm just starting to shortboard and looking for something to help with pumping and turning motions. I'm 6', 68kg and a bit concerned about the wheelbase. I can't afford a smoothstar with the shipping so I'm wondering if this a "decent" intro surf trainer? Thanks again!!!
Honestly, the wheelbase isn't much of a problem for heavier folk. The trucks have a divot in the sides of the waterborne truck that heavily negates wheelbite, and by turning standards, this board is extremely responsive.
Hi,
What is its weight and what is the diameter of the wheels ?
Thx
Hey Simon, great to meet you man. ;) okay the board weighs 3.36 kg and the wheels are 59mm ... really nice street carver board light to carry around in my backpack great portable carving board;) hope that helps cheers Andrew⚔️
i got one too. do you know if there's any way to get rid of the squeaking.
Cheers awesome Andrew ⚔️
mine squeaks on some surfaces but not others! totally fine on the street for me somehow
Would you recommend this skateboard to a beginner?
Hey mate does the board squeak heaps? Thinking about getting one
Cheers brother 🤙
I just want the front trucks to turn faster on my e-boards!!
Thanks for the info! I’ll be checking into the shaka 🤙
Wicked
@17:24 you can hear blokes working while this guy fucks around. Will buy the board tho
Yeah but is half price of Smoothstar
Riser not rail
I’m a skater, so I’m guessing this will be a nice addition for me. I’ve never surfed in my life. I’m too afraid of sharks.
hey Davy, great to get your question and feedback thanks so much, okay if the Penny board Carver is Australian born and bred it’s an awesome carving board nice plastic deck it’s robust a hearty beast it’s a nice carving board to ride but it is a little bit small in foot stance for someone who wants to improve their surfing and surfs too ...but for you if you’re not surfing there’s no need for that concern ... the waterborne front truck is brilliant I can thoroughly recommend this product it is nice ...but if you really want to get the BMW version of these carving boards no look no further than the SmoothStar MantaRay it is incredible, how tall are you ? and how much do you weigh ? if you’re over say around 100 kg and over 6’1" ...I wouldn’t go to the carver from penny board ie this highline series...
Waste of money ...get Waterborne adapter
