    I just bought a Nikon D50 and the Sd card that was recommened with it. I am getting the CHR error- "This card cannot be used" I have tried formatting it, taking out the battery and SD card after formatting it and still nothing. Could someone please give me some advice or what to do next? This is my very first camera so I am learning what do as I go.

    • @KevinCarly
      @KevinCarly  5 лет назад +3

      Hey, maybe the card isn't fast enough. Also there are 2 different ways to format a card, FAT32 and something else, I forgot what. But in any case, nice fast cards are so cheap, you may as well just buy a nice new one. These are what I use and they have never failed me, they are also very fast: amzn.to/2SAf1rV

      D50 might be limited to a 2 GB card. Cards bigger than that may not work.

    Thank you so much! We are on vacation over 1000 miles away from home, and my husband got his camera out for some much anticipated night sky shots. Suddenly his camera showed the error, and cleaning his contacts didn't work. After he gave up, I found your video and got the camera out and pressed the shutter.... its working now!!! You saved our vacation! 🎉

    holy goodness! You are a life saver. My D750 just died during an event shoot, had a backup thank goodness. Thought for sure it was a gonner. I had cleaned the sensors on the lens and camera body, changed SD cards, changed batteries, nothing. You my sir, gave the best tip ever! Click the shutter release....I bet I hit live mode somehow while running around shooting and caused the ERR. Thank you SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

    Wow! You just saved me a world of trouble. Got the ERR msg on my D850 last night after a battery died while shooting at night. Tried cleaning contacts on lens, body; left battery out for some time; changed cards... nada. Called Nikon Support in Tokyo and they said it's a shutter problem and to send it in ($350 fix). It's still under a year old, so should be OK to not pay the $350. Before sending it off, I thought I'd give one more online "fix" (have already seen a few) a try and it was this one. Just push the shutter button. WHUT? That simple? I rushed over, re-assembled the camera (lens, card, battery) and tried your shutter press idea. It works. Problem gone. WTH, Nikon?!!!
    THANK YOU, sir! You are a scholar and a gentleman! 💪

    Thank you for solving my problem! I use a Nikon D7500 attached to a telescope for astrophotography. Haven't used it in several years due to the ERR message. Instead I have been using a dedicated astrophotography camera, but there are several things I like about the Nikon such as portability on a smaller scope. Many Thanks!!

    I don’t understand why, but this fixed my problem. I was not in live view. Had been shooting for a couple of hours, when suddenly camera locked up & gave the ERR message. This has happened a couple of times when the battery got low, but that was not the case this time. Tried everything that I could think of, all to no avail, but this procedure cleared it up Thanks a million!

    Hello! I'm planning soon to buy this camera with 24-120 f/4... Do you think it is good way to go? I'm a little bit scared about this problem... Should i go with something else or? What do you think about this problem with D750? Is it worth $3500? Thanks! Have a sub and like! ❤

    • @KevinCarly
      @KevinCarly  6 лет назад +2

      Hey thanks for subbing, I really appreciate it!! Have you made your purchase yet? At the moment, yes, I believe the D750 is the best purchase because it is the most well rounded. I would be leaning toward the a7iii if not for its lack of weather-proofing and lack of other essential features. Does the D750 have flaws, yes, but the flaws have work-arounds and the price is right. I can tell you I've owned a 16-35mm f4 lens, a 24-70 f2.8 and a 70-200 2.8. The 24 to 70 is what I use almost all the time. The 70-200 is the most important when it comes to portraits/weddings. I use the 24-70 99% of the time. I sold the 16-35

      @KevinCarly  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah it's definitely a great idea to go with a less expensive camera at the beginning. It's a good way to learn and figure out what you want and what you don't want, helps you figure out which features are important to you and maybe upgrade in the future.

    Wow this actually helped me. What happened was I was shooting video and allowed my battery to run all the way down and it turned off while I had the camera on but not shooting. It must have stuck in the video mode just like in your video and took your advice and now it works. I must say however, you should never clean your camera with a cotton swap because the little hairs can get inside your camera and that's never a good thing, a lint free dry cloth is much better. Thanks for the video, really helpful!

  • @christophernation4793
    @christophernation4793 4 года назад

    On the vid you asked how the lens/camera contacts could get 'dirty' [the official Nikon diagnosis] if the lens had not been removed from the camera. The answer is that any contacts of any device - cameras, TV remotes, watches - that have any current running thu' them, however small, will attract 'dirt' from the atmosphere.
    With contacts which pass very low currents, such as camera body/lens, even a very thin film of 'dirt' can result in the current failing to pass. This problem can exist with brand new batteries as well as batteries that have been installed and running in a device for some time. Whenever I replace the batteries in a device I always gently scrape the connections in the device and more firmly on the battery contacts with a metal object. Anything will do - a coin, the tip of a key, a penknife blade.
    Sometimes the device stops working for this reason and I clean it up by rotating the batteries in the compartment so the battery contacts and the device contacts scrape against each other and break the film of 'dirt'.
    I got big Brownie points by 'fixing' an Art Director's camera this way. The A/D, me and my boss were waiting to fly to Nairobi on a big-bucks ad shoot. The A/D handed his compact camera to my boss, asked if he could get it going. My boss failed to do it and came up with all sorts of hi-tech reasons why the camera might be u/s. I asked if I could try, cleaned up the battery/camera contacts and Bingo! Funciona!

    I just had this problem with my Nikon D610. Nothing I did resolved the problem. I did everything that you suggested and eventually the camera started working. I suspect that when a Nikon camera sets on the shelf without being powered up for several months. Error messages can occur without explanation and then mysteriously resolve themselves. It is good to power up cameras on a regular basis and let electricity run through the circuits.

I checked the Nikon website first but they said nothing about this, surprising since it appears to happen to a lot of people and seems to be something of a bug in their program they should let people know about so more of us dont get stuck in the middle of a shoot without a working camera, especially since the fix is so easy !!

    Thanks dude. Fixed it for me. I'm sure your reasoning is just right as I was doing live view stuff myself. Initially I thought I was my points because before I even tried turning my camera on I put on a different lens and got the ERR message, then no lens would work, so I was like AAAAARGH!.

    Glad I found this video. My D610 was "Err"ing and I could not figure out why. It didn't even occur to me when I took the lens off that the mirror was up and I could see the sensor. Then I watched this and it dawned on me that when I was last using it it was in live view when the battery died, leaving the mirror up and confusing the camera when I put a fresh battery in.

    Hello Kevin. I am Flavio, from Argentina. I have the same problem you describe, but I can't figure out what you did to solve it. Surely my english is very basic. Could you tell me what to do, step by step? thank you very much!

      try pressing the shutter button and pressing the 'mirror up' button or 'live view' button. I hiked to Aconcagua mountain in Argentina, lovely country!

    The other issue is the he mirror inside. . Stuck shutter mirror. I’ve seen other youtube videos and the mirror didn’t go back into position properly, and prevents the camera from doing anything, and various people have taken their lens off. Then used a tiny object to move the mirror by a millimetre or two to the left, just to release it. Disclaimers of course, because you shouldn’t really be doing anything to your camera in case you damage it.
    Another person had a Tamron lens. Had an error message. Cleaned the contacts. Still had errors. But then moved the aperture wide open. Then fully closed and tried to take a photo, and that worked.
    Your trick seems to work too
