I really appreciate your take on this! rather than trashing a company and proving the same point you're giving them a legit chance to correct themselves. I doubt DK Oldies will actually do anything, but it's still a great take on it. To answer your question, I would call them crooks, scammers, idiots and straight up liars.
@@MrMario2011 Nothing will happen until they get hit with a class action lawsuit for blatantly deceiving people regarding their refurbishing and using that to price gouge.
this tbh, seeing basically the same videos over and over is annoying considering how the recommended system doesn't always work as intended lol (they keep showing those videos even if i tell it not to and not rewatch them)
Offer up a way to “correct”? Dude what world are you living in? These people are straight stealing money from folks who think they’re buying a refurbished console. The only way to correct that is for them to do a massive recall and actually do the work they promised for the many thousands of systems they’ve sold.
What?? You're telling me that simply wiping off the outside of the console with a spray of Windex and a paper towel isn't a full 100% refurbishment? What is this crazy world coming to? For real though, great video on the process. This is exactly how a refurb should be done.
I worked at a small mom and pop retro vidya store for a while, due to how long it could take to refurb some systems and the profit margin what the owners decided to do in the end was just have us put out for sale the systems that were in the best functional condition possible + clean them externally and do our best to blow them out with a data vac via the ventilation ports (to sell as used). Not really the most advisable process considering some of the systems but I can understand why the owners went with that considering sales and our size. DKoldies on the other hand for the amount they charge and how well known they'd become should definitely have been putting in more effort into their refurb process. EDIT: watched the rest of your vid spot on man.
There's a healthy balance between not refurbishing anything at all, doing paste + dust job, and going insane over every little detail. It doesn't need to be perfect, but there's a minimal amount of effort that needs to go into refurbing, coherent with the asking price.
Most game shops do that, including the ones I worked at unless it was a console repair. I have no issue with that as long as the console is working well and sold as used, but anything refurbished really needs to be done properly. Cleaned, repasted, and any problems remedied before putting it up for sale.
When it comes to their games I actually disagree with calling their practice a scam! If you buy a copy of Super Mario 64 from them, I'm confident you will receive a copy of Super Mario 64. That itself is not a scam by any means, since you're getting what you (over)paid for. However if they're doing something like selling cleaned games that haven't been cleaned, or refurbished consoles that haven't been refurbished? That's where the dishonesty lies.
@@MrMario2011 That is something that more people need to keep in mind. It isn't the price that could make them a scam, it is the lies about them refurbishing/cleaning them.
Great video. I love that you take pride in what you do. I think this has been one of the best "DKoldies" video I have seen. Good constructive criticism with instructions on how to do better.
I think it's good that you differentiated between what it means to sell a used vs refurbished console. DKOldies would be fine if they were just selling them used and not charging a huge premium for it but if you're going to label it as refurbished you really do need to go the extra mile.
Great video as always mate. I remember refurbishing my original Xbox back in 2019 after watching your modding videos. The thermal paste was like concrete, I couldn’t believe it!
Excellent video! I refurbish consoles for a living and this is the exact right way to do it (plus whatever repairs may be necessary, of course) though I'd add that having a powerful electric air blower (I use an Airrow Pro, it's an absolute beast) turns drying parts and dust removal into a literal breeze, takes me around 5-10 minutes to dry a console shell, so I don't have to wait for it to dry. Also, after cleaning the DVD drive you should add white lithium grease to moving parts, especially where the tray slides, the gears, as well as on the laser rail(s) and rotating shaft. Btw it's worth mentioning that some consoles like the OG Xbox DO NOT need to be repasted. Those consoles come with a special thermal cement instead of paste. It is dry when cold but becomes soft when heated up and has an extremely long life. That should be left well alone as replacing it with paste adds an extra maintenance requirement every few years going forward vs just letting the system be happy with its cooling for the rest of its life. Regarding DKOldies, I highly doubt that they would want to refurbish systems properly. They are a get rich quick scheme with a focus on flipping large quantities of overpriced low quality product through their heavy social media presence, not an actual refurbisher. To maximize volume and profit they just skip the entire process that would justify their exorbitant prices and let false advertising do the rest.
@@MrMario2011 I did that on a bunch of OG Xbox units initially and quickly discovered that the paste was not a paste at all and that it would get nice and soft when heated even 20 years later. I did some research and found that I am far from alone in this observation and that nobody has actually been able to show a tangible reduction in temps by changing an OG Xbox to regular thermal paste. Doing this only creates a risk of breaking the super flimsy plastic clamps or damaging the GPU. Also, if the next user doesn't change the paste on occasion, it'll end up with worse cooling in a several years. Overheating on the OG Xbox just isn't a thing (unless it has a fan die). They have issues with bad caps and trace rot due to contamination that can cause crashing, so some people just assume that's due to heat, but I have never seen or heard of one that had an overheating problem.
Another thing that DKOldies does, akin to Gamestop in the 2000s & 2010s, is putting a "warranty" sticker on a screw point that acts as a deterrent to a customer opening their system. Put together with the fact that their refurbishment process is lacking at best, it really paints a bad picture for them.
Thank you so much for putting this video together! Over the past couple of years, I've started to develop the confidence to open up and clean some of my old consoles. I started with the OG Xbox, then did my Fat PS2, and this video has inspired to get my old Jasper Elite out of storage and do that one next! Thanks again!
@@MrMario2011 I finally got around to cleaning and re-pasting my old Jasper Elite this past weekend! There were a few tricky points for a first-timer (releasing the clips on the rear of the console, re-affixing the x-clamps, re-affixing the RF shielding), but everything's working well! Thanks again for putting this together!
Nearly skipped this one because of the obvious bandwagon going on with the subject- I literally sighed when clicking it and seeing as how you instantly addressed my sigh I continued on. Nicely put. I myself have a very small store which I sell consoles out of. However, I have always refrained from attaching "refurbished" to the description despite the sometimes hours of work I do to them. I'll mention the capacitors have all been replaced or it has a brand new laser. Aside from all of that, I'll replace the thermal paste regardless and do the disc tray checks. My biggest fear is that someone wants to send back a console because it isn't reading discs. I'll also take the tray out of the drive, wipe down the worm motors, etc. and add new grease. If the motherboard is filthy, I'll desolder the internal speaker and throw it in the ultrasonic. I also tare down every controller and check the analog sticks for drift. Replace the thumbsticks regardless of their condition and clean the pads on the board. Controllers always get a good soak and well dried. AFTER all of that, I'll take photos of each console showing their imperfections up close and mentioning them, wrap it in plastic wrap, then bubble wrap and fit it neatly into a box for shipping. Only then will I list it as USED and price according to what it's typically worth. I may be underselling myself but I'm covering all my bases to ensure my customers are satisfied and neither I nor them will face the burden of returns.
I put this much love and effort into refurbishing Xbox 360s when I was in high school, and I still do. The fact that DKOldies can't say the same is incredibly sad.
ten years ago i was refurbishing 360s.. it was fun but i actually carefully took them apart and cleaned them. DKOldies should def be taking the systems apart and cleaning them like in this video. Shame on them
I would recommend disk drive regreasing also as plastic gears get brittle over time so keeping them well greased can extend the life of those gears and can also keep your drive working longer
NGL, dude, you really are showing true compassion and honor to this 360 unlike DKOldies. If you were selling consoles that are actually refurbished, NGL, I’d buy them from you. No joke. 😮
You mentioned the problem, you're an enthusiast. These stores aren't, they're in it for the money. No one will give your console as much love as you will. Thank you to all the modders and enthusiasts out there, you taught me how to love my consoles! Ps I'd call it good business, but as a person I see it as a scam.
18:41 to 18:53: If you are not going to replace the lithium grease used on the gears, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE GEARS. The increased friction caused by lacking or dry grease puts undue stress on the drive belt!
I ordered a refurbed laptop a year ago, booting up a benchmarking software to check for performance issues and instantly getting blasted by an intense stench of hookah tar. The cooling fan was essentially glued to the chassis by that tar, the keyboard was full of grime and hair. It took me three days to clean that thing out and have it not intensely reek any more. The absolute audacity to sell stuff like that as refurbished is insane to me.
This is the bare minimum they should be doing, as a business you could argue they should be checking and replacing caps as needed as well since the definition of refurbished is "made like new again" and not "wiped with a damp cloth and flung into a box"
Now that's what should be called refurbished. On a similar note, I still need to get around to opening up my 80GB PlayStation 3 (no PS2 backwards-compatibility) as the clock battery went bad years ago, and it runs quite hot. The thermal paste (which is 14 years old) really needs to be replaced on that thing. It's a bit daunting for me as the only console I've ever opened up was my original Xbox to remove the clock capacitor. Speaking of that, I also need to learn how to solder as my original Xbox is the 1.0 version with the Foxlink PSU and it's making the crackling noise, indicating the solder has cracked on the power plug so it's now a fire hazard. This is why there was that power cord recall, there was no strain relief on that PSU, thankfully other revisions fixed that. Almost forgot, I did open a PSP 3000 I imported from Japan a few years ago because it had stick drift. It was such a pain to put that thing back together after I put the replacement analog stick in.
You can buy a working PS3 off Ebay or even a thrift store or anywhere else. Buy 2 more of them if you need to shell swap due to cosmetic imperfections and it'll still come out cheaper than DKoldies. Option 2? You can literally buy a PS2 in it's damn box with all the inserts AND maybe a new housing if it's cosmetically imperfect still at a cheaper price than DKoldies. You'll also most likely be getting the original accessories as well instead of their "Oldskool" crap they toss around
Never bought anything from DKOldies, but I heard that they are scamming when it comes to the word Refurbished 🤔 Great video Mr. Mario, keep up the good work 👍 Greetings from Austria 🙋🏼♂️
I would imagine dkoldies isn't a very profitable business. I think the average person who wants to play retro games is going to emulate them. Theres not actually a lot of people buying up retro hardware. And if you look at they're repair benches they are equivalent to hobbiest not a business. If your going to make a company that refurbishes consoles than buy a degreasing tank for 100$ so you can soak multiple shells at a time, buy alcohol in bulk, buy spare parts in bulk, hire solder workers for caps..... the process of refurbishing doesn't have to be one at a time. You can have workers for disassembly than soak the shells move the boards to the solder workers and have workers for assembly. I also feel like most people who are qualified for refurbishing are over qualified and wouldn't make ideal pay refurbishing consoles.
this video is sooo good man. being the better person and showing people what they should be getting when buying a referb console instead of just ordering a console from dk opening it up and then shitting on them for half an hour to get views.
Man I wish I saw your video first! I just wrote up a comment on the refurb video of basically these steps, wish I would have just linked this. Solid job man!
Nice work. DKO should have classifications or price groups. Something like full priced Fully refurbished or discounted price operation verified. I’ve bought 3 consoles from them to mod so I opened them past the warranty sticker and none of them were cleaned much less refurbished. I think they use the warranty sticker as a way of knowing most people are not going to open the console in four months.
Great video bud! Been following you for a while now, great content. I refurbish my consoles identical to you with one exception. I have found that greasing the dvd drive rails & worm gear with white lithium grease makes the disc drive quiter & function better as well. Keep up the great work man, love your video's.
Tearing a console down cleaning and adding thermal paste is time consuming but at the prices that dk oldies are charging it’s what they should be doing but the question is will they??
Honestly mario and any other hobbyist that does this on their own is always going to do a better job than a shop. As the old saying goes, if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself.
I fell for a website offering great deals on lawnmowers. Totally an impulse buy and often if anything at all shows up at your door, the credit card company wants a complete encyclopedia of any correspondence and pictures and will not help you on the phone or website. Scams are real and although sleazy, DK appears to send something resembling a console. Instead of mowers, I received n95 masks. Sorry but I'd feel extremely mad because junk is junk. People are shipping "an item" and the postal service says "delivered". And the amount of money isn't over $150-$2XX. Be careful folks. Buy from known reputable places.
the takeaway here is if they do the bare minimum, watch those prices do up by 50% minimum, worldwide for all refurb places... such a scam and a half...
Yes, I'm confused why people buy from them when I know 20 modders that will refurbish and mod your system for less than dkoldies. I've modded 5 in the last week and they are far far cleaner
I believe a lot of the purchases from DKOldies are due to their visibility on social media, coupled with excited buyers who are just getting into retro or are blinded by nostalgic excitement. I believe a lot of their posts are recording boxing up orders from people, so some younger folks might be super excited over the possibility of seeing their order on a video. More hype than research, in short.
I just did this to a MW2 edition Jasper board a few weeks ago. Runs smooth. That 360 tool was cheap from Amazon, and it made it a breeze to get the shell off. I love tear downs.
MrMario aint just another RUclipsr, he's legit! You helped me flash my Xbox360 ten years ago! DKOldies should take apart EVERY system and clean them, no matter how good they look on the outside.. should be standard procedure. Back in 2012-2013 when i was fixing RROD xbox360s, i always reapplied TIM, and replaced the x-clamps with hardware bolts & plastic washers. Worked pretty well. Also carefully took them apart so there was no damage caused to the plastic shell. That way it still looked like new.
I never knew who DKOldies were until RUclipsrs started making drama. I just buy used consoles off eBay and fix them up myself :P Only "refurbished" console I've ever bought was a PS3 Slim from EB Games (GameStop Australia) back in 2017, and it still works well to this day so they must've done something right :)
Never bought anything from DKOldies but seeing all of this unfold ever since they began uploading shorts is entertainment in my book. Funny how the shorts made them more recognizable yet destroying their reputation at the same time. Anyway you, tell ‘em MrMario! Get schooled. I don’t hate them but there pricing is too much.
Their pricing might be wild, but there's people who are paying those prices, so can't hate all too much there if the market thinks those prices are proper. I'd just rather they take better care of what they're selling for those prices.
Comfiest content with breakfast today, cheers brother! It's absolutely worth it for console gamers to take the time to learn how to deep clean their consoles, even if they aren't into selling imo. Learning to do this for your own systems is a great preventative measure (Thermals especially for gen6 & upwards!)
I love when someone knows what they’re doing. I just recently got me a backwards compatible PS3, which wasn’t from DK oldies thankfully but I knew that I was getting one with fairly low hours roughly 25 days total runtime so I took preventative maintenance into my own hands, took the whole thing apart, cleaned every inch of it put new paste, and hopefully this will keep, the notorious graphics chip from dying early did the same with my jailbroken Xbox 360 it’s honestly very fun and I when you have no extra screws like you said it’s a great day
I repasted and cleaned my ps3 slim system as a complete novice since I never tried opening anything before. My ps3 was bought in 2009 it was getting loud and the temperatures were high so I had no other option than to repaste it since it was slowly dying. So I bought my self some thermal paste and did it following some youtube videos and it wasn't even that hard tbh my console now is shiny clean and works perfectly silent. It really gives you a big sense of satisfaction when you re able to do something better than those so called "experts" at Dkoldies.
I bought a fat PS2 non working from eBay. Seller said console would not turn on. Being a little tech savvy I knew it was a power supply I swapped out the power supply cleaned the console and now I have almost brand new working PS2 for like 50 bucks
I just don't get why they wouldn't do this. It's not a lot of effort, you have employees and paying customers... The prices could be justified if they would do this.
Top tier video as always but yeah just as when I deep clean my own consoles it is quite labor intensive, even when you get used to it, doing shit properly takes time and my guess is that they focus so much on fast profit that they just throw consoles as fast as possible, the less a system spends in their warehouse more profit.
Yup ultra sonic cleaners is a necessity we just dump every disassembled system on there and use a distilled water and solution to clean all of those, I hate dealing with smokers consoles, kids stuck food inside and of course the cockroach infested ones, I even saw an ants nest larvae moving around on a fat ps3 power supply!, surprised that its still working and not shorted out, critters love hot dirty consoles.
I would love someone to look at the true cost and economics of acquiring, opening, cleaning, testing and repairing classic consoles. I have no clue how that would reflect into the price. How far does Gamestop go in "refurbishing" its consoles. Is there any retailer that does a proper and expected refurbishing processes?
The supplies are probably a drop in the bucket for a company their size (since they can probably get things like IPA, thermal paste and microfiber clothes in bulk). But it would be the manpower needed to do it efficiently that is the reason they don’t do it. Although even for them, they can probably crank out a system in 30 minutes, since I wouldn’t expect shells to be fully washed. The vast majority of stains can be cleaned with IPA and some scrubbing, don’t even need a magic eraser.
the fact they move so many orders yet don't refurb means these consoles will die quicker than necessary and to me that's wrong man they're making the inevitable death of retro come quicker
Hey Mr.Mario, just to ask, because you mentioned " 15 years old termopaste " My 360 and PS3 termopaste hasn't been changed never, so it's close to 15 years old paste on both of them, however I have hundreds of hours thrown in both of them, and they both work just fine now, I am still playing sometimes on them, and in fact they work very nice and quietly (both are the last revisions of the FATs, so the best FAT consoles you can find). And I have even did couple of hours sessions on both of them lately and not a problem. Do I need to worry ? Do I need to change the paste ? Can they go on like this for another 5 years ? what do you think ?
DKOldies should take notes from this video and start refurbishing their consoles like this instead of just blowing on them like they're birthday candles.
to answer that question you asked, i would call that a scam since you are paying a premium for a console that's "refurbished" when at best it was opened up.
Did people not know these places exist? There's tons of them out here lol. The business don't usually last long unless they have really nice collections to profit off of.
All these videos just show DK Oldies seem to define refurbishment as exterior cleaning and blowing out/vacuuming dust from the console without opening. Their audience is casual nostalgia customers that would never open one up or think about stuff like thermal paste.
The plastic cleaning would Def be a step the individual should decide they want to do. I do expect leaned but not to that extent aesthetically at least. Amazing video and yes that is exactly what I expect a refurb to be. Personally I got better treatment and product from small timers vs places like DK
To answer your question at the end; What I would call a site that at best partially makes up to the promise it gave to the customer, in the case of DKOldies, a ripoff. It's no scam, you get the item you ordered (at a bad price in my opinion), but it's either not, or poorly refurbished unlike the listing's promise. That's quite the ripoff considering the price paid for the item. Whenever I get a game console, I completely teardown the system, clean any plastic with soap and water, replace any dried pads or paste if I have any, and I'm just some 17 year old nerd! DKoldies is a game store, they have the budget and facilities to properly clean their devices. They better start doing the bare minimum that people like you and I do to our consoles, if they want to keep charging high prices! I hope they see your video, and at the very least start doing what you do here.
Bought a 30 dollars xbox 360 slim wich i brought back from dead and now i cant tell its a refurbished system and yes, i modded using your tutorials thanks a lot for these and a lot of more tutorials, just like you im a hobbyist of these consoles and its a amazing what you do. Congratulations
I timed the video and it literally took 17 minutes to refurb the console which frankly even with a skilled technician shouldn't cost DKOldies that much to perform on a console.
I just bought and repaired an Xbox 360 Slim S (Trinity) with a jammed disc drive, and fully cleaned, repaired, and modded it. I completely disassembled everything (including the DVD drive) just as you described, washing every plastic part in warm water and dish detergent. Also cleaned and repasted the processor. Of course I had to no choice but to disassemble it that far because I was modding it, but I couldn't imagine selling a console as refurbished without doing exactly the same thing. Very positive video. While you may consider yourself as just hobbyist, thousands of people look to your videos for disassembly and modding advice. When I was doing the RGH3 on my console I was reading a written guide, but you better believe I watched your video first to see everything in action. One small issue I have with mine is a longer boot time. Mine takes 30-45 seconds to boot. I modded a Corona (V1, no post-fix adapter) a couple weeks ago that instabooted every time. Mine is a Trinity, and I used a 3K PLL resistor. J-Runner automatically pick 27ms for the RGH timing. The guide I was reading said you could use any resistor between 3K and 10K, if I tweak that would it possibly improve my boot times?
Even if they did just half of what you did, I would consider it refurbished. At least they would have done something, instead of just slapping on an "warranty" sticker and calling it a day.
I didn't know installing a game to storage is a good test for the DVD drive laser. Now I know for sure the DVD drive laser in my Xbox 360 Slim is good because I've already installed 6 games to the HDD in the 360, some twice just because I wanted to. It isn't making any weird noises, too, and it doesn't sound like it's struggling.
@@MrMario2011 I even replaced the 360's thermal paste a while ago, since 12 year old thermal paste would probably be beginning to dry. Weirdly enough, the X-Clamp was easy to remove for some reason, and it was fully on there. I though it would be hard since I used a flat head screwdriver.
Why don’t you dry the console with a towel? Wouldn’t it be quicker to dry rather than waiting 24 hours? How long do you recommend to wait if drying the console with a towel? Plus, when you said use an old toothbrush to clean the thermal paste, but not one that’s been in your mouth? Do you mean use a brand new toothbrush for the purpose of cleaning a console? Or, can you use an old toothbrush that was used to brush your teeth, and later can be used to clean a console? Is it ok to use the same toothbrush to clean a motherboard and thermal paste with IPA, and to clean console shell with water and soap? Or use two separate toothbrushes, one toothbrush for motherboard, and one for console shell. Does the toothbrush leaves scratches on the console shell, is that why you use a sponge?
Is there any good SILENT replacement fan mod for the 360? i have a Elite jasper and it sounds like a train, inluding the kadonk-adunk (just a little faster pace)
I wish, there's not really any drop-in fan replacements we've seen for it that truly quiet it down, unlike systems like the Dreamcast or PS2. Best would be to clean and repaste it, as well as install DVDs to the internal storage.
@@MrMario2011 I have looked around and could not realy find anything either, saw a dude who made 2 70mm noctua fans fit with some heavy filing to the fans. but expensive and destructive.
Who would you recommend to purchase refurbished and cleaned consoles from, Mr Mario (and also Mario Fam) ? Anyone got a hookup? I just got into this older hardware, purchasing a PS2 and a RetroTink 5X - my PS2 from eBay is very dirty so I'm gonna attempt cleaning it when I can, along with the HD Loader method and installed an HDD. That said, I'd love a backup console as I stream and can't afford one to die on me - the eBay ones are still pretty dirty and I can't find any sellers that I fully trust. Any help is appreciated.
Might have to just find individual sellers and see what their process is, that or do it yourself. Local game shops are becoming more of a rarity, but ask around there as well!

when all this popped up I said it appears all they're doing is the bare minimum any seller should be taking to sell used consoles. Confirm the console works, clean the exterior to make it look good and ship it out the door. When it comes to electronics what DK oldies is doing is not refurbishment. Obviously the top tier pricing which makes it look like a tech actually refurbished it does not help in this case. They are charging a premium when no premium service was performed. They very well could be in fraud territory. having said that, a PS2 for over $200!!?? I have one in great original condition I'd probably sell for 2 bills and it comes with the hdd. 🤣

I'll disagree on the OG Xbox front, I always repaste them and would always recommend doing so if the old stuff hasn't been replaced.
Have fun!
For sure, definitely a good thing to do.
Bro, you saved me. I was already considering to buy a "Refurbished" playstation 2 after seeing those tiktok videos.
Glad you've seen the light ✨✨✨
NGL, dude, you really are showing true compassion and honor to this 360 unlike DKOldies. If you were selling consoles that are actually refurbished, NGL, I’d buy them from you. No joke. 😮
Damn even MrMario on the DKOldies drama
What would I call a company that claims to refurbish consoles that actually don't yet sells those consoles for exorbitant prices? A SCAM!!!
They used a Magic Eraser on that Wii. They used sandpaper, literally sandpaper, and scuffed the system housing.
There's no guarantee that laptop was halal.
Follow a guide for a PS3 teardown, repaste, and rebuild and you should be fine. 🙂
Shop vacs can sometimes distribute static and fry your stuff, use canned air or computer dusters only.
They are now showing videos of them refurbishing something like this bro. Appreciate your hard work. It really helps
For real?! Got an example?
Never bought anything from DKOldies, but I heard that they are scamming when it comes to the word Refurbished 🤔
Great video Mr. Mario, keep up the good work 👍
Greetings from Austria 🙋🏼♂️
👋
That's how it should be, split the work among different coworkers and repair/refurbish stations. They've got the employees and space for it!
@@MrMario2011 holy smokes I love your videos! Super cool to see u reply! You've helped me a lot with your content!
this video is sooo good man. being the better person and showing people what they should be getting when buying a referb console instead of just ordering a console from dk opening it up and then shitting on them for half an hour to get views.
I mean to be clear, every publicly uploaded video is uploaded to get views, but I appreciate the sentiment 😛
Now that's how you refurbish a console.
Man I wish I saw your video first! I just wrote up a comment on the refurb video of basically these steps, wish I would have just linked this. Solid job man!
I have a feeling that comment might be deleted 😛
They should list each console with pictures, I’m not buying a stock image.
That’s a scam, copout.
Ehhh, that's not a thing exclusive to DKOldies. Most online shops will just have stock images for their used console sales.
That's what they should be doing, especially at the price point, but they aren't!
Thanks for all your videos! Extremely helpful for putting life back to old consoles!
Thanks for hanging out!
Honestly mario and any other hobbyist that does this on their own is always going to do a better job than a shop. As the old saying goes, if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself.
Yeah, but a shop is supposed to be PROFESSIONAL.
Dk oldies drama aside. I truly enjoyed watching you taking apart the console and cleaning it. It was a great video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love watching you work its so relaxing, its like the Bob Ross of console repair and modding
🔥
Yes, I'm confused why people buy from them when I know 20 modders that will refurbish and mod your system for less than dkoldies. I've modded 5 in the last week and they are far far cleaner
I believe a lot of the purchases from DKOldies are due to their visibility on social media, coupled with excited buyers who are just getting into retro or are blinded by nostalgic excitement. I believe a lot of their posts are recording boxing up orders from people, so some younger folks might be super excited over the possibility of seeing their order on a video.
More hype than research, in short.
@@MrMario2011 I'm gonna open a store. "Better than DKoldies" 🤣
I just did this to a MW2 edition Jasper board a few weeks ago. Runs smooth. That 360 tool was cheap from Amazon, and it made it a breeze to get the shell off. I love tear downs.
I'd say this actually justifies a premium price, but still nowhere near the cocaine prices DKOldies charge
DK Oldies didn't buy Elbow grease while refurbishing. That's why it didn't work for them.
There we go, we've solved the mystery!
Your so humble i am a hobbist. Your a legend and inspiration. One of the few 'tech' mod channels i 100% trust and i cant say enough THANK YOU to you.
Definitely not, I'm at best a hobbiest 🤣
@@MrMario2011 Then you're one hell of a hobbiest
Comfiest content with breakfast today, cheers brother! It's absolutely worth it for console gamers to take the time to learn how to deep clean their consoles, even if they aren't into selling imo. Learning to do this for your own systems is a great preventative measure (Thermals especially for gen6 & upwards!)
Hope you had an awesome breakfast with this, Skull 🍻
I love when someone knows what they’re doing. I just recently got me a backwards compatible PS3, which wasn’t from DK oldies thankfully but I knew that I was getting one with fairly low hours roughly 25 days total runtime so I took preventative maintenance into my own hands, took the whole thing apart, cleaned every inch of it put new paste, and hopefully this will keep, the notorious graphics chip from dying early did the same with my jailbroken Xbox 360 it’s honestly very fun and I when you have no extra screws like you said it’s a great day
Good on you for that, make sure you take care of that thing!
Those X clamps are super convinient, and its so easy to repaste the thing unlike PS3
Nice save!
I'd call them dishonest and a rip off, and should just call themselves a second hand store if they're not going to bother doing a full refurb.
For sure, just looks like they've been cutting far too many corners lately 😬
214 for a PS2!!!!.....That's MADNESS!!!
NASTY. Those infested consoles have to be the absolute worst.
Yep, nothing you can do with a country of more than 150 million gamers and how gaming demand increased after the Pandemic...
Gamer powers must be activated at once.
I'm happy people are least refurbishing and trying to still care about the old consoles
Repaste them.
DKOldies should take notes from this video and start refurbishing their consoles like this instead of just blowing on them like they're birthday candles.
You ever accidentally buy those prank birthday candles that keep lighting up after you blow them out? They make for a shocking surprise.
to answer that question you asked, i would call that a scam since you are paying a premium for a console that's "refurbished" when at best it was opened up.
Any chance you can do this with a PS2? I would like to know the proper procedure for refurbishing a dusk drive.
Did people not know these places exist? There's tons of them out here lol. The business don't usually last long unless they have really nice collections to profit off of.
FANTASTIC video! Love your content man! Very thorough and educational!
Much appreciated!
To answer your question at the end;
What I would call a site that at best partially makes up to the promise it gave to the customer, in the case of DKOldies, a ripoff.
Spot on comment right here.
I can assure you it took much longer than 17 minutes 😛
Maybe, you could try different resistor values to see if that improves boot times, since each console is different.
I bought the same GBA Max Payne a week ago!! I love it!!! Great video!! Thanks!
It's like an officially released demake!
@@MrMario2011Its's great fun, and the music is hypnotic.
Sounds like you've got a good working drive!
Dry it however you want as long as it isn't destructive, soft bristles go a long way.
