I second zen essential's comments. This is a masterclass in bag making. The quality of the video is excellent and your attention to detail is amazing. I love that you mention past mistakes and potential issues and how you fix them. I've struggled with binding in the past, so I really appreciate your suggestion on how to do it faster with practically the same results at the traditional method. You are an excellent teacher and I look forward to future designs and videos.
Young lady, what an amazing bag designer you are!! I just came upon your channel and I love it. I love the fact that you also use a domestic machine. Thank you so very much for sharing your amazing tutorials with us! I'm extremely excited for the next one!
Jo, I very much appreciate the detail that you put into your patterns - both in design and construction. This bag is gorgeous! And I will sew ALL the binding if it means I don’t have to construct a standard drop-in lining. 😂
What a great video. I’ve purchased the pattern, cut out my fabric, and now I’m ready to go. I’m sure I will sew-along with you while making my bag. Thank you for a lovely pattern and fantastic video. X
@@CountryCowDesigns I’d already bought the ‘gilded forest’ from Wattle &Slate, so when I saw your sneak peak last week I knew I had to have the pattern. I’m making it with black faux leather so fingers crossed it looks as good as yours, x
I love watching your videos. They are so instructive and make me feel like I can make a great bag too. I would like to attempt this bag but put card slots in the front zipper part. I like the cork you use for your bags. I have never used cork before and so have never looked for it, but I’m sure I’ll find it once I start looking for it here in Canada. I look forward to seeing what you create next!
I love your patterns and your tutorials. I so wish I could get you a machine with an automatic stop in the needle down position. I love all the bells and whistles on my machine but still can't make anything as nice as you! But watching you makes me appreciate that function on my machine. Crazy, I have and can't, you don't and can, Anything!
Thanks! I would love that 😆 and one that automatically cuts would be awesome too, but mine’s a bit old for any nice features like that 😂 keep going and yours will be great too. Lots and lots of practice is the key! 😁
I love your bags and designs. The one thing I will mention is that I find it much easier to manipulate the bag by putting the handles on last. Other than that, you show us how we can make lovely bags on domestic machines! Thank you!
Well there you go again Jo. Another stunning pattern and video. Lots of tips and tricks and you share so much. Love that you do your sewing on a domestic especially for beginner bag makers who need to start somewhere.
Great video as usual! I especially love the new camera angles. I have just watched the Vordenza video as that is my next bag I'm going to do and when I started watching the one for the Vekza the camera angles are fantastic.
I love your videos as well as your tutorials. I think you are the greatest instructor and will be looking forward to many more tutorials/videos from you. I love the trekoda backpack as it comes together so well each time. Thank you for being online. I am excited with making more or your bags/etc. Keep up the great work. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope i ll get a refund from seller. Your bags are awesome, professional and classy. Thank you!
That’s so upsetting about the cork 😫 it’s crazy how different the quality is from different places! Thanks. I’ve been slowly investing in sorting out my filming space and it’s finally getting there 😆
Hello!! Excellent pattern. I love it. I’d like to make a weekend travel bag and I wanted to know if I can adjust the print size of this and make it a bit bigger ?? Or maybe it’s a measurement pattern ( you give the measurements of the pieces) instead of a printing pattern 🙃 Thanks 😊
I just wonder: for the bottom to be in 2 parts, is that for cosmetics reason? It can also be 1 big bottom without a seam, right? For the exterior as well as the lining?
I have never made a purse before but I feel I could do this one. It’s beautiful. My domestic is just crud so I have a vintage I think would do great with bulk and has been able to handle 5 layers of vinyl with no issues. I’m just confused on the fabric/interfacing. Do you have a video about that sort of thing?
I don’t have a specific video about it but if you watch part 1 of the Lowarn sewalong (it’s a live sewalong we did a few months back on RUclips) then we discuss all about the fabrics and interfacing. It’s a very similar construction to the Vekza bag so it would all apply to that too 😁
I just bought this pattern I saw Jess from oklaroots make it and I just had to buy the pattern. I’m just wondering one thing is the seam allowance already in the pattern or do I add my own allowance when cutting? It just looks a bit smaller than I thought but maybe I’m just trippin! Please let me know thanks a bunch! Love this bag so much it’s the front zipper pocket that made me fall in love ❤️
Hi jo I have watch you making bags I must say you are very good thank you I have learned a lot could you tell me we’re else I can get canvases so I can make a bag along with you I am from the uk and how do I purchase a patten from you .
Thanks Maureen. My patterns are available from countrycowdesigns.com The canvas I’ve used in this bag is from www.wattleandslate.co.uk but they don’t keep much stock, they generally just do pre-orders. Another place for great fabrics is littlestitchersews.co.uk I hope that helps!
I finally made my bag and wasn't able to post it to your FB group but even though it was my first it came out really well. My grandma wants one but smaller..can I scale down the pattern? Will that still work?
Thanks for making the bag. In theory it should work but I’ve never tried with this bag though. It could require some slight changes. Alternatively our recent Konin Bowler Purse is smaller than the Vekza.
Love the pattern and the video was great...could you tell what stitch length you use..it looks quite large on camera,,and more defined than my reg stitch length at 2.5 mm..Thanks
When I’m top-stitching I use a 4mm. When I’m sewing cotton I use 2.5mm but for cork/vinyl/waterproof canvas I use 3mm. I was always taught to use a slightly bigger stitch for materials like cork and vinyl because they risk perforating if the holes are too close together. It’s never happened to me though so I can’t say for sure 😆
Hi! I purchased the pattern and I’ve made at least 10 of these. The bag is so beautiful and I just love it! But I do have a question. I’ve used a variety of vinyl when making it and the results aren’t consistent. Sometimes I get a sort of gathering look around that front zipper area and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Do you have any tips to help out with that? The end result is still beautiful, but I’d love to know how to fix it. Thank you for this lovely pattern!
Hey Rebecca. There’s a few things it could be but the main thing that comes to mind is the type of vinyl. I’m assuming you’re using different vinyls and not all the exact same make? It could be that more slippery vinyls are bunching up as you sew or stretching out where you don’t want them to. If that’s the case, usually changing the foot to a non stick or a walking foot can help
Hi, ok well it varies a bit depending what fabrics I'm using, but generally I use size 70 when doing a cotton lining, size 90 for most of the exterior and then a size 100 or 110 when I get to the final steps with all the layers and binding together.
Great tutorial and great teacher! :) This is the next bag I'm going to make, just bought the pattern :) I wanted to ask about the handle tool you have attached to your big ruler - what is it called? I would like to get one of these for myself as well :) Thanks!!
Thanks. It’s called the gypsy gripper. Here’s a link to it on Amazon Gypsy Quilter The Original Gypsy Gripper www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001CE8J7E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_E3BMJC1298BMQQ7Z7EBX
May I ask where you got the canvas fabric for your second attempt at the bag? (black one with green lining) I just love the fabric and would love to sew a bag using this. Thanks for your help! :)
Yes it’s from Wattle & Slate. It’s a pre-order fabric company based here in the UK. They have a Facebook group where they announce upcoming fabric runs and I think they’re planning to re-run this print really soon.
Check out page 31 of the pattern to see which type you need. Sometimes they’re called different things but it shows there what width it is unraveled and folded so you know you’re definitely buying the right stuff 👍🏻 it’s amazing how different it is to constructing a bag for birthing 😁
@@CountryCowDesigns I would shorten the depth of the slip pocket so it was out of the seam allowance, my machine wouldnt go through all those layers , never used foam before either lol great tutorial Jo, and lots of great tips
