McGwire puts on a ton of muscle and suddenly wasn't getting hurt all the time like he had been. Bonds never failed a test but he was doing it.
I have been a serious power lifter for over three decades and even was competitive for a time. Men don't just put on 60 lbs. of muscle in their mid to late thirties. Steroids, PEDs and HGH not only make your slow twitch fibers react quicker but they also increase stamina and recovery time.
So of course you still have to hit the baseball but steroids, PEDs and HGH help with timing, reaction speed and obviously more power. You are now on time on pitches you may have been late on before, Balls that would have been fly balls to deep outfields are now ten rows into the stands.
Bonds still hit 73 HR in a season but there is no doubt he was juiced up. So it is still the record but in my opinion I am going with the man who did it clean. Just look at the stats these hitters put up between 1997 thru 2003. They were unbelievable. Luis Gonzalez even hit 57 HR one year when he hit 31 HR once and the rest of his career were in the twenties and teens. Brady Anderson hit 50 HR one season when he only hit 21 and 24 HR as his highest and usually he was hitting low teens.
Bonds record will stay. I just don't recognize it as authentic. The worse thing about all of this is that Bonds was so exceptional, so amazing, and was one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game, that he didn't need to use Balco. Would he have hit 73 HR in a season and 762 HR in his career clean? No but he would have most likely still hit 600 career HR and possibly 50 HR that 2001 season.

You cant call him the people’s champ when jt literally takes a record-breaking season to even have one 10-minute segment on tv about it. I love baseball and what Judge has done yada yada, but when Barry Bonds was breaking records baseball was a top sport in america, largely because of someone like him. Its infinitely more iconic, whether that is because of infamy or otherwise, whereas this Aaron Judge season will be forgotten in about either three days or one month, when week 5 nfl happens or the nba season tips off and the media turns their back on baseball again

Tbh, the only reason they're making this AL/NL differentiation is because the Yankees want something to pretend they're still the best.
If this were happening in idk, Anaheim or Minneapolis, nobody would care unless the player was breaking Bonds's single season record. This is regardless of the PEDs or whatever. I don't like that a steroid user has the record, but it is the actual record. Judge is having an amazing season and props to him, but it's just silly to celebrate a guy who isn't actually breaking a record.
Also agreed on the fan being allowed to keep the ball and charge for it. As a fan, it's your ball. Go get paid.

People need to open their eyes, what Judge did this year is astonishing, go look at all the categories he led in, second in batting average on top of 62 homers, it’s insane, and he is hands down the MVP, I don’t want to hear anymore about Ohtani either, he’s incredible in his own right, but Judges season was far more important because without him the Yankees do not make the playoffs, meanwhile Angels are 33 games out of the division!!

Garret Cole led MLB in Strikeouts, and set a Yankee record for K's in a season. Stop acting like 1 guy is the sole reason a team makes the Playoffs or not. Remember when the Yankees had a 9-17 stretch when Giancarlo Stanton was injured? It takes a complete team to get where they got.
As for the MVP, yeah he better be a unanimous MVP. I was bummed he didn't win the Triple Crown. That would've made this a truly phenomenal season for the ages. But I don't know how anybody could vote for Ohtani, or anybody else for that matter

Bonds second highest total was 49... the year before the 73. He had more 40 homerun seasons in the last third of his career when most guys numbers tail off. Coincidentally, this was all in the early 2000s. He can have the 'King' moniker on paper but those who follow the game do know that his single season record and totals record ARE tainted. The writer's clearly demonstrate that with his absence in the Hall. Just go look at how many 40 homerun seasons he had before 2000... 3!... 46, 42 and 40! This was in his prime when he was already considered a HOFer. then 2000 - 2004... 49, 73, 46, 45, and 45. Unless you are a BB fanboy, the numbers clearly show he was a cheat. For some, this doesn't matter but go ask Judge... or the next guy that hits 63 or more. MLB should remove his McGuire and Sosa's numbers.
