Edith Edgar is a modern day, angel. I encouraged the world to read her book, “the choice“ it will make you cry, and cry, and cry. Don’t turn away. As she says, “you cannot heal what you don’t feel .” have the courage to feel what she intentionally has embedded in her magnificent book, it’s all meant to make you feel and open up your heart again and feel free, finally. Don’t hold the poison of what has been done to you, in your heart. That’s how it lives on.❤❤❤

I found this talk-interview very inspiring.
The realization that we can choose our thoughts, words, and actions is a message that is highly needed.
I have written a poem about this that I would like to share:
POEM - IT IS UP TO ME HOW I WILL BE
I have found the missing link,
    I no longer sink.
I have come back from the brink
It all depends on what I think.
I can choose to feel sad
Or I can decide to be glad
    It is up to me
    How I will be
It is all in my mind
Which is one of a kind
Where I create my life and my day
Moment by moment I really do say
I will choose a wise balance
    For that is my allowance
I will choose to be kind
And this is what I will find
I will be calm in my mind
Because all is well I truly find
My present moment is my only choice
And when I speak I will give it voice
    The quality of my thinking
Will determine the quality of my life
I will upgrade from low quality
And I will make mine high quality
    A life of meaning
    My actions do create
I am joyful because of my thoughts
My self-talk enables me to appreciate
I am one of a kind and so are you
My mission in life is to be me, not you.
Your mission is to be you, not me.
Working together, there is power in we.
Let us choose to be happy and kind
And together a better world we will find.

Edith Eger you are remarkable; you've been such an inspiration this past year, it's because of you and your work as well as books that have given me the strength to push forward. I love what you said, " Nobody can take what you put in your mind. Keep studying, stay in school ." The Gift and the choice are tremendously appreciated and encouraging, thank you.

I read The Choice in one day, cried and cried. Then started buying copies as a gift for everyone I love. Everyone should read it❤. I felt like reàding with a highlighter. Every page filled with such obvious truths but we are so stuck in our own struggles, and look outward for healing that we do not realize "healing is an inside job".

@@mitch5222 Hi, her first book is called “The Choice” and her second book is called “The Gift”. I had try therapy with no success after having grown up with grandparents and an aunt and uncle traumatized by the holocaust. Her book spoke to me and I have now recommended it to a friend who did not have any connection to the holocaust and is not Jewish, but I think the book could help anyone. Some of us look at what happened in the past and see all the markings of the things happening now and are fearful. I am just taking things one day at a time. I still have fear that will always be triggered, but I am learning to see events as triggers and not actual threats to my life more appropriately well choosing to move forward. I now go into stores however I just do it with a mask and gloves on and I still go to work with mask and gloves. At least I am not frozen with fear. I hope these books help you.

I am a Psychotherapist, worked also with traumatic patients. What I learned there it is not always possible to forgive.I am very impressed from Edith( am also hungarian, live in Germany), and appreciate her work, I love it that she can forgive. But my problem is to give a message for people who are hurted abused for example from parents, from church: forgive.
It is good sure, if it happenes, but also very important I think, never to force it. The people who hurted me should ask for forgiveness, they should apologize themselve. What do you think about it?

    • @Antoniathinks
      @Antoniathinks Год назад

I was a trauma therapist for 30 years. Of course I came into the field from a history of abuse and after significant trauma re-education. I truly experience that what Edith Evers models, deepest forgiveness, is of profound importance, though clearly, she did not forshorten the anger, grief, rage and loss, all of the emotions which unfolded over time as she recreated herself from despair. What her books point to is the long process which was involved to arrive at the depth of empathy she shares. Her point about forgiveness, is that indeed, as other research has proved, anger IS addictive. The craving for justice can easily become a kind of righteousness policing of other humans; it is understandable we want to recognize and identify what we don’t accept, but HOW we behave in confronting injustice makes the difference between the other person actually awakening into the moment of accountability, or not. We cannot wake people with a cudgel of judgement, only honesty and empathy. We do not ever force a client to forgive, never. Yet it is possible to help them recognize when anger has become a mode for keeping a sense of imaginary control, after the fact, when we encounter myriad forms of injustice in others’ attitudes and behavior that evoke our own disgust, or other reactions. The point she makes of knowing who the enemy is, and then empowering ourselves beyond a position of enmity towards those who have sick and cruel behavior, illustrates that the reality is “the stretch” which she makes is that we see what is there. We do not get everything we want, that is not promised in any life, but likewise what was IS NOT WHO WE ARE, it is what happened THEN. We can never know how others might shift at some point. And as she says, change is not an overnight process. We always invite anger, but beneath it is enormous fear. And fear is what is so deadly. She forgives to preserve her capacity to love, FOR HERSELF. She gives this to herself not to exonerate any one else.
