  • Jimmy Carter was the 39th U.S. President. His presidency would follow extreme circumstances. Between the war in Vietnam, and the previous President (Ford) pardoning his previous President (Nixon) for lying about the war in Vietnam, Americans had grown tired and wary of the government. A construct of corruption, secret dealings, war and lies is what the last two presidents left for Carter, and it was on him to now try to mend the nation and attempt to reedem the government's respect from its good people.
Carter would go on to dissappoint the nation, and underperform in their eyes, this would lead to Carter not being voted in twice and instead Ronald Wilson Reagon would take the presidency after him and carve out a significant Republican legacy. What lead to the people's distate in Carter? How is it possible that a President that did not lie, go to war, or lie about going to war was so hated by his people? This video attempts to frame the key events of Carter's presidency and contextualize the citizen's perspective of the President and government.

The best thing to ever happen to Jimmy Carter, was Joe Biden.

Carter was a jerk. Lyndon Johnson was even worst.

Carter wasn’t even the worst president in his era, let alone all time.

Most hated? Not by a mile. Very ineffective yes. Would he have done better say twenty years before or after yes. But most hated takes in guys like buchanan, wilson, johnson, trump

    Fun fact:
    Nixon ended the Vietnam war.
I’m sure this is quite an unbiased “documentary”

He was definately not the most hated, not by a long shot. Also most of the criticism of him from the right is absolute bullshit.

I'd argue at the time he was extremely hated and that he was affected and took in that criticism. So not only was he hated, but he had exposure to it because he was trying to use the criticism to be better.
His presidency also marked a huge shift to conservative mindsets and made Reagan's run and MAGA ideology so much more powerful.
I'd say Carter was in a bad time more so than being a bad president

"I'm really not a bad man, just a very bad wizard."
Carter had some good ideas, and had some good people around him. But he was sometimes very politically inept. A few years ago, I watched the "malaise speech" (a funny term, since he never used that word in the speech), which I had only heard on radio originally and only dimly remembered. On this recent viewing, I was actually appalled. It wasn't that anything he said was actually wrong, but it wasn't what the Nation either wanted or needed to hear. When you're struggling with your budget, you don't want to hear how you should be less concerned with material things. It might be true for some, but it's not the right message at such a time. Reagan, on the other hand, was a master of putting a positive spin on things, whether it was warranted or not (and to be fair, it was probably the way to lean at that time, though many didn't see it that way).
