I agree. I also think it’s unfair to list William Henry Harrison so low. The poor dude died after a month in office, but when he was territorial Governor he did a lot to stand up for Native Americans. Also, while FDR is listed here as the second best, I actually only have him as #6. The reason? Yes, he did pull us out of the depression and ushered in progressive reform that continues to this day, but you can’t be objective if you erase the fact that he had Japanese Americans under indefinite detention - that’s not okay. Reagan (and Wilson as well) is also massively overhyped - he’s more of a B list than an A list president.

To be fair Buchanan took office when relations between North and South were deteriorating and reconciliation would have been a miracle. It would have taken a one in a million politician to prevent war.
I agree. Buchanan simply was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His presidency was judged largely on decisions and events that were out of his control (e.g. Dred Scott, John Brown, etc..).
