The teacher who changed my life. She has become more beautiful and wise with age. One thing that stood out then and stands out now as her best character is the depth of her knowledge on so many subjects. As her student, using one poetry, she taught us history, philosophy, science, politics even maths😅 and so much more. Watching this podcast I want to return to her class. GBU Ma'am Theyie🥰

Why do people come to watch a podcast just to hate and say they don't want personalised opinions??? This is a podcast, to interview people of their views. You don't need to criticize when you yourself do not understand the concept of the video. Just watch and get the perspective of other people, don't try to cherry pick what you find offensive and discard the purpose of the video.

Well that was an abrupt ending😅 but I really enjoyed the context and also the pace of the conversation (if that’s a thing). Although I would have wanted to hear more about her approach to teaching more “passive” students relative to students from mainland India and how she makes an effort to break that cycle and hopefully bridge the gap. I say this because, as discussed, that was basically the whole experience of my schooling prior to college. The student-teacher dynamic was explicitly of formality, obedience, discipline and fear. The more realistic human aspect of relationship and closeness was pretty much non-existent except on sports week, Childrens’ day and Teachers’ day which is kinda ironic if you ask me. Imagine if that was the energy and relationship in the classroom as well where we all feel like a part of the same team, wanting to win, to participate and contribute, to support, express love and care about each other. In reality, everyone was so timid and silent when it came to our classes and subjects but we all had big, bold, outgoing and varying characters and personalities outside of the class. We were not all a bunch of idiots either but we never really felt like we were active participants in the class because the practice of conversational learning was not fostered and instilled in us as a kid. In hindsight, I believe we as students did put our teachers and the classroom on such a high but irrational pedestal that they became unapproachable in our minds. So clearly something amiss there. It really became a disadvantage later on because I just couldn’t break out of that shell even when I got to college where it was the norm to ask questions and have mutual and cordial conversations with the professors and damn did I miss out a lot on. I just didn’t realise that my teachers and professors were humans as well until I graduated college and I solely blame that on our education system back home for not emphasising and nurturing that sentiment in me as a child. PS. I get that this is a personal anecdote based on my reflections and that not everyone may experience the same.

33:47 Agree 100 percent. After living abroad for some time now, i've realzied a lot of things and "Colonization of our mind" as she mentioned is one of them. We think, anything that is western is much superior which in turn gives rise to unintentional or maybe intentional(depending on who you ask) privilages to the other party(western Privilege). In a way, we are putting oursleves down a level below them unconsciously without even realizing that we are doing so. This is definitely due to "Colonization" which effects us directly or indirectly. I wish we all grow out of this mindset soon. Anyways, awesome podcast episode. Love IT. 👌👌

Great talk. She is a person all our girls and boys can look up to. It's a blessing for the students to have someone like her as a teacher.
One think I don't agree on is her views about competition. I don't think competition is overrated. Without competition we would have no Olympics or many other sports. One reason girls do well is because they have to compete with others for their careers and life. They are not spoilt like the boys who usually usually have family inheritance to fall back on.
Yes, competition should not be the only focus but humans are innately competitive in nature. In a way all countries are competition with one another and without that we will just be ruled by someone else. Unfortunately that's how our world is.

My grandfather himself had a grandfather who also had a grandfather who also had a grandfather. But my knowledge of my roots unfortunately stops with my grandfather, nothing or no one before him. As a race, I think we’re so unfortunate. Like, how far do we go back in time? Really unthinkable in other societies . Our genealogy is truly a mystery.

Even after ten years of graduation, I have not forgot Ma'am Theyie's lectures. Her vast intellectual has a lifetime impact for me. How did someone of her high standard humbles herself to teach our Nagas is what our friends used to discuss. She used to encouraged us to speak up in class and Ma'am, I was too much intimidate to say so it feels funny to hear her mentioned again about our bad habits. I was also one of the silent ones 😂

Yet if it weren't for the American missionaries,we would still be head hunters.
We owe the Americans for sharing the gospel to our great grandparents and now that we are Christians,we ought to pray for them and the world to receive salvation.
Our past cultural lifestyles were mostly based on dominancy over one another.
'The strong' subduing 'the weak',which is still very prominent in our present day society (the tribesmen instinct).
Christ is the only way,the only truth and the source of life.

Given that the host has made this video publicly available, I feel compelled to offer some unsolicited brotherly advice: I encourage you to delve into the history of the Naga struggle and familiarize yourself with the relevant facts and statistics.
It is particularly disheartening to witness a fellow Naga trivialize our fight for rights by drawing comparisons with the experiences of Aboriginal and Native American communities. The characterization of our struggle as 'just a slap on the wrist' is nescient at best. Such a remark dishonors the memory of our martyrs, the orphans, the widows and widowers, the victims of rape and assault, and the countless daily struggles-social, economic, and psychological-endured across all Naga-inhabited regions, irrespective of the artificial state and national boundaries inflicted and imposed by occupiers.
Aside from these uncouth statements! it is a substantive and nuanced conversation.

In naga society we never treat women as second class Or we never treat mother like slave, both mother and father carry burden together, father spends sleepless night to provide food, shelter, education for family, meanwhile this kind of women are demonizing men and portraying women as victims, just speaking good english, wearing neat dress doesn't make us look better human or wiser
