    Here is a clear difference of a Flamenco Blanca Guitar compared with a Flamenco Negra Guitar. While they might sound similar, they are extremely different.
    Which one do you prefer?
    Let me know!
    Played on a:
    - LESTER DEVOE 1990 (Negra)
    - Conde Hermanos 2000 (Blanca)

      Depends what type of player you are, what you're playing and the mood you're in. Blanca is crisper but loses the note sooner. The negra has a deeper, more nuanced tone with extra sustain.
      I would love to hear you compare your Lester to a good blanca from Francisco Sanchez/Pedro Muriel/Paco Rey/Jerónimo Perez... the extra sustain from their blancas would make the comparison even more interesting.
      Guitar maker-Juan Miguel Gonzalez once said to me...that it's easier to find the love of your life than to find the guitar of your life.

  • @RonH_music

    Great as usual Luciano! It is a tricky balance between strings separation in (Blanca) vs more blend in (Negra). Blanca has a natural EQ to push the sound forward while keeping the strings sing individually but the price you have to pay for that is less sustain which requires more strokes & harder playing to keep the instrument ringing vs long sustain in Negras which translate to easier playing and big round sound but the price you pay for it is slower attack & mushy sound in varying degrees depending on the quality of the Negra. The main difference when it comes to type of wood used is that Blanca can be made of much lighter wood due to the stiffness of spruce & cypress vs Cedar tops in Negras which is not as strong as spruce and requires the top to be much heavier to handle the tension of strings. The heavier top in Negras has a slower attack time meaning it takes longer time to fully vibrate and longer time than Spruce to fully stops vibrating. Flamenco guitar has to be reasonably percussive which is the case in Blancas and hard to achieve in Negras.

    • @ericmojave6061
      @ericmojave6061 Год назад +1

      I agree with most of this. My only counter would be that many negras have spruce tops. This basically makes the Blanca va negra conversation about the depth/sustain allowed by the back and sides. I prefer the negra as an all around guitar that can be used for any style of music and sound beautiful no matter what music you are playing. I prefer Blanca’s for a distinctly percussive flamenco sound. Blancas record beautifully as well, since they lack a little bit of the sustain and depth to the low end.

    • @RonH_music
      @RonH_music Год назад

      @@ericmojave6061 I agree that the top Cedar vs Spruce is the biggest factor. Cedar is a brittle wood if it is cut very thin so the maker have to make the cedar top thicker for durability vs thinner spruce because spruce is harder wood and can take tension even when it is thin with the correct bracing and again when the top mass is lighter the top will respond faster and stops ringing faster too giving that dry fast and sharp attack. Cedar tops have more mass mean slower to respond and longer time to stop ringing ( physics) which translate to more round tone as there is more sustain and blending happens. Cedar/ negras can be used to more styles and easier to play in my opinion as some blancas NOT all require more energy flow to keep it ringing. I prefer spruce tops as all strings lyrical and raspy, responds way better to flamenco techniques. Starting flamenco using classical guitar with cedar top can make the progress very slow and stuff will sound not right with translate to more tension and confusion to student. I think Paco switched to Negras with spruce tops to get more round sound and sustain from darker heavier back and sides wood.

    The blanca vs negra comparison often just turns into a comparison between 2 different guitars. A blanca that produces a profound round and focused fundamental note that also pushes a lot of air like vicentes reyes could be described as a negra, and a negra that's brash, stiff and doesn't really have air behind the pulsation could be described as a blanca. Haha

    Es muy complicado!! Aveces la negra suenas más y aveces la blanca. Y viceversa. También. Tiene que ver la cómodas del brazo la medida del diapasón. Las cuerdas. Muchas cosas. Pero hey!!! Me encanta como tocas macho. Yo he tenido barias guitarras. Pero para mi la que no es cómoda mejor la vendo. Porque para que quiero una guitarra incómoda y cara si no la voy a tocar. Así sea una torres del 1890. No porque sea de torres y esté incómoda la voy a conservar. Buen video.

    Otherwise, this is the best video for comparison, houever, the Guitars are not made equally.... The Negra is much more 'in its' box' than the Blanca, which, to my ears, is a superior Guitar.... Perhaps the strings are duller on the devOe?
    Probably finding the Best sounding versions of blanca & negra one can find, of course, all personal preference, then making a video comparison could give the most telling results....
    Joyful discussion to have nonetheless!

I have one from 2005 and it sounds 100% like yours. For the DeVoe I would recommend you to try Aquila Rubino strings. I have tried the Solera Flamenca strings for my negra but Aquila sounds very balanced and definitely better! Furthermore if you slight over the fretboard within bass strings, with Aquila strings there is no background noise!

I really prefer the blanca for flamenco, though the negra is great for granainas I would imagine.
