If its down was more popular, then new technique's would arise. I can say for myself, that I have lagging back pressure on the table, but a strong hand, cup and so on so I have containment, but in sit down I suddenly have backpressure that is quite good and I am hard to pin now. At the same time it seems like pronation do not matter as much. In the same way I think, new people would just hit the top or at least the ranks would change a little.

Saw Richard in Albany, NY at sitdown nationals in 90s smash everyone and then decades later in Virginia sitdown nationals. Same result.
