You're gut instinct to make clean plans for your builds just in case people want to build them, is akin to data scientists just making a 'small' macro or program just in case they need to do something again. Love it
The mesh was absolutely correct, that’s what construction crews use in thinner pours like slabs. Rebar is more for footers and other structural elements.
Quick concrete mixing tip for small projects. One sack of concrete to one gallon of water (+/-) and mix in a 5gal bucket with a wide paddle mixer and an angle drill on slow speed. Works like a charm.
You were absolutely correct in suspending the mesh in the concrete. If it sinks to the bottom, it will stick out of the set concrete at the bottom and will rust inwards from there eventually cracking the concrete it is in contact with. By the way, you had a really nice consistency in your concrete mix. Not too soupy, and not too dry. 😊
A little tip. If you want clean sides to your concrete, use a trowel or similar to slide down the sides of your boxing in an up down motion while the concrete is wet. This takes out the bubbles and gives it a smooth surface.
I’m just the messenger: your Weber grill grates are upside down. So were mine. So were the guy’s who told me. I swear it was photographed wrong on the box. But you want the flat side up, it cooks so much better with more surface area on the cast iron.
Your brain is so completely linear and logical! Wow! I am so impressed! Your projects are complete and thorough and they have given me some ideas to try myself! Thank you!
Looks great! I was worried for a minute that you were going to paint that beautiful cedar, but of course you knew better. Thanks for sharing your project with us. Keep up the great work. ATB
Love this! Great design and build. FYI melamine is the coating on the particle board. It's the same stuff used to make tons of things like plastic plates, dry erase boards and even Mr Clean Magic Erasers.
Dude! I was just listening to your video because it popped up on auto play and had a relaxed vibe. That straw glueout cleanup trick is awesome! Thanks!
awesome job. i just finished my deck and moving my grill from the ground up ontop and been looking for simple ideas with great use and this is inspiring. great work look forward to more projects and builds from you
Great video, one thing, to liquify concrete you need to vibrate it, with heel of a drill on the base board, some down in the list may have mentioned this. still looks great though!
Missed this video. Normally in a slab foundation, since the pour is done at once the rear sits on chairs to give it the clear cover it needs to resist corrosion. In you case I would have done a bit of the pour, placed the mesh then placed the rest of the concrete on top. The mesh should be at the center if you don't know which way it is going or favored toward the side that will be facing down as the wire mesh is to assist tension since concrete has poor tensile properties. P.S. As for the air bubbles, unless you have a way to vibrate the form you'll constantly run into that issue. You can try lightly dropping each end of the form, bit it's effect will be minimal.
Gorgeous as always!!! Love the cedar my favorite wood but against that grey and the pops of red makes it stunning. The concrete top turned out great. Usually they add some powdery liquidizer whatever it’s called to get that watery consistency but it was great to know that it won’t be liquidy just because you add more water because I didn’t know that. At least you know your concrete is stronger without the extra water 👍🏼 It’s stunning and it’ll last a long time and be functional as most grills suck at offering storage, counter space and good looks too lol!
FYI The plans for this build are almost ready, but I want to make sure they're perfect. Check back in a few hours, or join my mailing list to get and update when they're ready www.almfab.com/mailing-list
To make concrete have a more liquid consistency use rapid set flow control and to give yourself more working time before the concrete hardens use rapid set set control.
I know this was a little while ago but, Michael Builds shows how to make amazing cement countertops. He makes it so simple. Just need the correct products.
Fantastic work, Michael! Really beautiful cart! 😃 About concrete, don't be afraid of adding water. It's going to dry out in the end anyway. 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
NICEEEEEE 😏 but you might want to put a sealer on that countertop.. FYI...I just found your channel and have been binge watching the last two days...and I've really enjoyed your videos
Well done, I like it. I think I will go with a laminate top for mine as that is going to be a little on the heavy side for me anyway. Nicely done and just what I was thinking about building, that's what brought me to this video. Cheers !
Great project and really loved the video. If I could offer a little bit of advice for a stronger cabinet in the future. If you look at 24:58 you'll notice that your end gable is on the side of your base. As your wheels (or legs in some cases) are mounted inside of the end gable, all the weight being carried by the gable is mostly unsupported (just your tenons). I've seen this, and had to fix many times. For a stronger cabinet box, especially when using legs or wheels, make sure the base goes the full width of the cabinet to support the gables. Great project just the same!!
This is awesome! Love the slat drawer fronts and color. Also that concrete top is so cool. Let me know next time you cook out and I’ll bring my truck too ;) Didn’t read the comments so it may have been mentioned but you might want drain holes in the drawers for rain that blows in?
How does the Cooler drawer handle a full cooler? Also, for safety, I would have pot a couple of vent holes in the back of the Gas Bottle Cupboard. It might only be for holding spares but you still don't want any gas leak building up.
I haven't worked with concrete myself, but am going to in the future and have been watching videos on it. From what i have noticed is that projects that use big box concrete the coloring attempts seldom work and they remain largely shades of gray. The ones who use the GFC like Modustrial have fantastic results with color. My speculation is that the standard bags of concrete have a more coarse and larger grains of sand in them The GFC type of concrete is more powder like sand. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
Ok, the one “tool” I can’t find in your list or even find the correct way to google for it is that cool utility knife blade you use to slice the bread. What is that?
Love the build. Only thing, it looks like a Harbor Freight tool box with a wood front and cement top screwed to it. Please don't hate, just what I see.
Such a great video. I’ve actually been planning out a cart for my Kamado Joe with a concrete top. I’ll for sure be coming back to this for reference. And I definitely see the difference the concrete dye made!
Hi Michael..thanks for another great video!.. I love your selection of music and just wanted to know what the name of the last bit of music is..it starts at about 27:43..Thanks again for sharing your skill and talent!..Keep well!
Where did you get the giant utility blade, lol. That is a great gift idea. Beautiful cart too, love how sturdy your projects are. I recommend you check out Michael Builds for concrete countertops, his rapidset projects are way cool and super easy.
Jimmy Diresta makes the blades imakeny.com/products/diresta-razor-blade Thank you! I'll check out that channel. I've still got a bunch to learn about concrete...
To those that stress about food stains on your concrete top, I say leave it naked so friends sign & date any mishaps to remind you of all the good times together. 👍🤣
You'd gain in joint strength if you actually glued then entirety of the joining faces of the joint, and not just the biscuits (or whatever they're called) and the holes. Sure, it implies to clean up any squeeze-out, but as the famous French saying goes "C'est pas la colle qui chie qui colle, c'est la colle qui pousse la colle qui chie qui colle" ^^ Meaning: "It's not the glue that shits that sticks, it's the glue that pushes the glue that shits that sticks" ^^
The plans are up on my website in both IMPERIAL and METRIC www.almfab.com/plans/outdoor-bbq-grill-cart-imperial-and-metric
👍🙏🇮🇩🇮🇩🤝
thumbs up for NOT calling it "STANDARD and metric" because metric IS the standard.
You're gut instinct to make clean plans for your builds just in case people want to build them, is akin to data scientists just making a 'small' macro or program just in case they need to do something again. Love it
Am I the only one watching this kind of videos with no knowledge of woodcraft?
I find it very relaxing though and I admire the skills.
The mesh was absolutely correct, that’s what construction crews use in thinner pours like slabs. Rebar is more for footers and other structural elements.
Really cool! I dig the Alm twist on modern industrial design!
Hello ffriend 🙏🇮🇩🤝
If I wasn't already going to hit the 'like' button my guy at the end sold it. Already subbed!
Hahaha! Thank you!

Good to know!! I felt like I fumbled my way through the whole thing 😅

Good to know!!! Yeah that’s the bit that isn’t great
If you have a recip saw, take the blade out and use that for a vibrator.
Growing up we had a 1984 Mercedes diesel station wagon. I loved that thing. It broke my heart when it got totaled 😢
I’m just the messenger: your Weber grill grates are upside down. So were mine. So were the guy’s who told me. I swear it was photographed wrong on the box. But you want the flat side up, it cooks so much better with more surface area on the cast iron.

Great BBQ Cart. You made the drawer installation look simple. Oh yeah, the Brats looked delicious!!

Not sure who got better hair… Josh or Laura.
The dress to razor blade/knife was classic.
Great video. Great project.
Love this! Great design and build.
FYI melamine is the coating on the particle board. It's the same stuff used to make tons of things like plastic plates, dry erase boards and even Mr Clean Magic Erasers.
We also call them melamine boards in Denmark. And they're absolutely awesome for molds
More accurately it is a thermal fused laminate sandwich with the TFL surface on one or both sides of a particle board core.
Props for wearing your Get Hands Dirty t-shirt!
Dude! I was just listening to your video because it popped up on auto play and had a relaxed vibe. That straw glueout cleanup trick is awesome! Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah that's a handy one for sure 👍
Such a cool design - One of my favorite part of your designs are they combine both form and function perfectly! Great stuff as always Michael!!!
Thanks Ethan!!!
awesome job. i just finished my deck and moving my grill from the ground up ontop and been looking for simple ideas with great use and this is inspiring. great work look forward to more projects and builds from you
Thank you!! Glad I could give a little inspiration!
Use a superplasticizer, it'll make the concrete flow better, you can get it at Home Depot, and maybe Lowes.
Something like Rapid Set's "Flow Control"
Loved the cameo from the Diresta razor blade! super cool.
Very cool! Glad the concrete worked!
Great to see how you built the drawers. Thanks for showing your technique x
Really love the pattern on drawer sliders even if I prefer to take them with both the same width and just rotate 90° 1 times/2
I hit the like button before watching you put ketchup on that sausage...good thing that grilling station is incredible.
Wicked job on the build, Michael! Keep up the great work
I love how much personality you put into your voiceover

Loving your work as always. Inspiring me to build something to house my Kamado Joe and get stuck into some drawer making. Nice!!
Awesome build! Love the cooler idea. But what is that razor blade looking thing you used to filet those buns? That looks wicked! Great job!
You look so satisfied when you were peeling off the extra silicone from the mold.
It's very satisfying!
Great cart, Michael. Best wishes and good times using it!
Bill
Great use of Jimmy’s blade
Yeh, I saw that too, I want one. 👍
I dont know what I want more the cart or those pretzel buns!! Awesome work!!

Melamine coating is a hard polymer resin that is applied.

epic build and Red/black Hell yeah my 2 fav colors

The drawer fronts are so slick Michael 👌

Nice build and enjoyable video. Thanks for posting.
Really liked it, and the colors totally make it work!
Definitely needed more water in that Crete and needed to mix it more lol too many chunks that are dry in the middle but all in all you made it work

turns out very well. really love this design mike. keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work mike. keep making. god bless.
Great build that was cool to the end .happy grillin'
Cart is awesome. However, we are going to have to talk about the gas grill.
Really nice project! And btw - it‘s definitely [bloom] - german brand, so I have to know ;)
Yeeessss! I’m so excited to watch, more outdoor! Love it
Lovely little project and the planter bench looks great BTW!
Thanks so much!

Melamine is the thin white plastic layer on chipboard or particle board, wasn't sure from your comments if that was what you'd understood or not.
That is one fancy grill cart!
Ok, the one “tool” I can’t find in your list or even find the correct way to google for it is that cool utility knife blade you use to slice the bread. What is that?
It's a Diresta Razor Blade
Love the build. Only thing, it looks like a Harbor Freight tool box with a wood front and cement top screwed to it. Please don't hate, just what I see.
Great cart! I wasn’t sure about your drawer fronts but I gotta admit, they turned out great!
This turned out great! Nice job, Michael. Howdy Josh and Laura!!
Thanks Roy!!
@@MichaelAlm What is up with Josh? What guy rolls up their jeans?
Really like the look of the doors and it has a automotive tool box look. Need to know what the jumbo utility blade was to cut the buns.
Once again great video with all necessary instructions to give it a try. By the way, the combination of concrete, steel and cedar looks really cool!
Such a great video. I’ve actually been planning out a cart for my Kamado Joe with a concrete top. I’ll for sure be coming back to this for reference. And I definitely see the difference the concrete dye made!
Right on! Thank you!!
Very nice , with a lot of cool details.
Hi Michael..thanks for another great video!.. I love your selection of music and just wanted to know what the name of the last bit of music is..it starts at about 27:43..Thanks again for sharing your skill and talent!..Keep well!
Love it, especially the cedar doors. Would have looked awesome with patterned plywood though, just saying, lol.
Wow that really is a nice piece. Great work
Because Josh said so, I liked and subscribed!
Very cool! I really like all of the add-ons you incorporated. But...how can you ruin a brat with catsup? Great job anyway.
Are you going to seal the concrete? I’m thinking about ketchup, mustard, and grease stains? 🙂Do you know what you would use?
The plan is to seal it... I'll need to do some research 🤔 Maybe some people have suggestions
@@MichaelAlm Use some concrete sealer, Michael.
Hope you used food-grade sealant! Beeswax would do well
Loved it…stylish and practical 👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
I do believe this is my favorite video of yours! So cool!
That's awesome! Thank you!!
Nice drawer fronts
That thing looks awesome! Well done!

Kyle-
wow. came out super nice
Sick Tycho shirt! Love your videos dude!
Awesome build ! What was the blade/knife you used to open the hotdog bun ? Looked really cool :P
shout out for the tycho shirt. awake is such a good album
the final lunch gives the video a fancy touch JAJAJAJ

Great video and cool project. When it started, I wanted to know how you built this BBQ station, and in the end, I was suddenly hungry :)
Hahaha! Thank you 🍔🌭
Looks great! I love the pop of red
Thanks Johnny!!
Tu trabajo es increíble.. me encanta.. me motivas a trabajar en mi taller.. te felicito. Un abrazo desde Chile
Next time you use concrete I’m pretty sure you can use charcoal powder to make it darker
I didn't plan to watch all 30 minutes, but I did.
That's awesome!! Thanks
You have such a great design eye!
Awesome job as always! Love that simple but modern design! And I really need to do some concrete already! Haha
I would of put another side on that bottom drawer to support the cooler of it has ice and drinks
Where oh where did you find that glorious cooler?!?! That paint match was a solid choice too. I am also curious what you put in the top two drawers?
