Watching Dan's videos makes me want to meet this nice guy in person. I have had a lot of brief conversations with Dan and he has been extraordinary nice, helpful and friendly.Dan is a type of person that makes you want to meet new and interesting people all over the world. With the good Lord willing hopefully someday I will be able to say I met Dan Hurd in person. Not because of his Fame. Just because he's a good person!!!
@@strangerwildernessoregon3164 I agree totally with you!!! I would love to have a sit down with Dan's dad. If my guess is right the Apple didn't fall far from the tree😉😉
I would love to see one get faceted, and then see a jewelry maker set it in a piece. It would be a nice series to follow it from the rock, to the gem, and final piece.
Very cool! It dawned on me that that would be a great instance to have a small tarp underneath to catch all those crystals! Pay dirt!! Haha. Keep up the videos Dan!
🤦😜👏 What a day you guys had! Good things come in small pockets😉 Good for you!👍 Thankyou to you & your fun family for taking us along for the dream adventure! 👍 Just like the ocean picture stones! Awesome nature!🙂
I felt that I just had to comment. I came across the channel by accident but have been glued to it since. Love the humour as well as the presentation style. I'm hoping that at some point you might do a basic geology lesson for us numpties who know nothing. I must admit to looking at the website and toying with how I would work a claim.... I'm a hotelier in the Cotswolds in the UK, so quite how I thought I could make that happen is beyond me. My dream moment was short lived but if you ever did a working learning break for people I'd love to learn more. Its absolutely fascinating.
Glad I found this vid. There is a huge basalt spire about an hour from our house. We are going to go crystal hunting next weekend. Shout out from Colorado
Dan, thanks much for this video! I'm an American and this time is really difficult for me right now. Your videos are always uplifting and entertaining. I really needed that today! Thanks! 💎👍
It’s Christmas Day and I’m watching this thinking about how cool the Christmas bags sound!! I hope people are at home (or wherever) enjoying them at this very moment!✨
Dude this is awesome. Your videos make me really want to get out and do more prospecting. Love seeing your finds. Give a person lots of hope to be able to find treasures like this. I'd love to go on an adventure with you and learn anything you can teach me.
I've split many blocks of stone. The key is patience and reading the rock. You did it right and took your time. It will split if done correctly. Love the videos Dan!
I'm curious! You said that the olivine turns red or rusty when it close to the surface of the bedrock. My question is does it matter if the bedrock you are cracking open does it matter if it's in the sun facing south. I'm finding it all being rusty in color. I'm also curious if I remove the top layer of boulders to get down to less exposed bedrock if I might find better clusters sockets of olivine? And peridot. Also the bedrock is an old deposit, there are no catacombs above the bedrock field I'm working.
I visited a spot on the Island of Hawaii years back that is famed for its green sand beach. The basalt sand was so loaded with olivine that it truly looked green. Hiking the bank all around that beach revealed olivine crystals everywhere (though none as big as in your haul). It is a magical spot.
Mate, Dan, the vacuum is ingenious! I love learning about geology with you man. I’m jealous of your students brother! The feather wedges are so cool to see at work too!
Thanks Dan for the video, what neat gems , my daughter just started doing panning for fun and my wife purchased her some paydirt and I was going to get some of yours for Christmas. Thanks for the videos
Im Defininatly buying myself a Christmas paydirt bag!!🤠👍 I love these uploads!! But in the UK its pretty poor for rockhounding and gold prospecting!~Unless you can travel a great deal!(*which I cant !) So LOVE these videos Dan!! Its like being there with you. Your enthusiasm is infectious!💕xx
Dan next time you are drilling Basalt vacuum up the dust and mix it with water and put it on house plants, fruit trees and the vegetable garden if you have one. The point to this experiment is that basalt is rich in the trace elements plants need and it is very good for plant growth. You might find that it could be a new source of income if you could crush and grind basalt to a powder.
@@Danhurd yup makes sense, love your channel by the way I find it really relaxing and calming not to mention exciting, there's something really satisfying about watching the process of what you do...the word and detail that goes into extracting something so small and hidden, I enjoy watching the process as much as seeing the results. gr8 stuff dude
Wow, that was amazing. That must be a great break from gold prospecting - you get a lot of visual confirmation for a good find! Also, love seeing those basalt columns at the top of the slope. Would love to see a closer still image of those - they look darn impressive... Anyway, that looked like a well deserved excellent day with your friends! Um, and geeze, Byson shouldering that stone down the hill was a pretty impressive feat of strength...
Awesome gems! They are beautiful! Well done - Dan! You really have fun and enjoy what you doing! Don't stop man. I always look forward to each new video you make.
Sir i love your videos! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. And i will have to get my 9 yo son a bag of that pay dirt for the holidays . He loves gold and gems.

I was happy to see you use the 'Feather and Wedges', I had wondered in the past why you didn't try or use them. Such a simple method but so powerful.
